Being an Elvaan 75BLM/37RDM, I offer my gear up for criticism.
Keep in mind, that I have 73% HP, for my ring.
It's well rounded for dynamis and great for puddings.
Merits- 5/8 Enfeebling
6/8 Elemental
6/8 Lightning Potency
5/8 Ice Potency

Here it is: BLM

~Yote

Over all it looks like a good start. I would suggest getting the following:
Bugard Strap +1
Demon Helm +1
Morion/Phantom Earring
Yigit Crackows

I personally nuke in Elemental Torque. I suppose I could swap to a INT neck, but since I'm either Nuking, Enfeebling or using Dark magic I just swap to the appropriate torque for the spell.

As far as the elemental grips: I would use those for enfeebling only, personally.

I use Enlightened Chain when I'm going for maximum INT build (+3 INT, which is respectable when you consider what else is available) and Elemental Torque for everything elemental based. Beak Necklace +1 for idling and Curing!

Yeah, I would save up for an Elemental Torque and to save gil on the earring slot, try doing the ENM to get this. It even looks like an Antivenom earring at first glace so you can trick some people.

"Wtf are you wearing an antiven--oh...ok, nvm."

I agree lol, I looked at the same items. And start doing salvage and get your *** a morrigan's robe!!! lol j/k I was just gonna say get rid of that antivenom earring. In my opinion I'd suggest an elemental torque over your philo stole but I may get a bunch of crap on that. If you do sea, try to get prudence torque. :) I'm still after it atm but I have elemental torque atm.

Eh... I'm not going for the Morrigan's... too much gil. :-(
I'm a cost effective BLM. I like my equipment the way I like my gf, cost effective!

Very time consuming though, and for Black Mage and Red mage, Omega Ring is a much more solid item to get with your ichor!

I made a semi-cost effective BLM setup here all for under 1m for everything (at least on my server). You'll have to do some assault, einherjar and get lucky in Dynamis for a few pieces but overall it's cheap and very effective from what I can tell ^^

Thanks, I don't have a dynamis shell and i'm not sure about the witch sash, dunno how to get it really and not spending 2 mil on it. I dunno about the elemental grips, are they absolutely better for what I got already? What is it that they do? I always thought they were for rdm lol

Witch Sash is not really worth it for Black Mage; in my opinion, it should be the final upgrade you make in terms of bought items. It's already been proven in lots of parses that Sorcerer's Belt out parses. It's worth it if you have Red Mage as well, though. Your money is probably better spent upgrading other slots in the meantime.

Umm... I rarely rest when I'm at full nuke set up.
Mainly, I change my feet to the Relic BLM feet for conserve MP +5 and aspir like crazy!
My RDM and WHM friend toss me a haste to help me aspir faster.
In dynamis, I usually get 90-180MP aspir-ed. It's kind of fun!
Refresh/Ballad and an Aspir are all I need to be ready to nuke again.
With all my "Conserve MP" gear, makes things cheap too... lol.

By standing setup, I think he meant the gear you wear while idling. It's best to stack Refresh and Damage Reduction while just idling and running from point A to point B, especially in zones such as sea or dynamis where aggro can hit you unawares pretty easily. Not to mention, a few free MPs while running to your next spot never hurt anyone. :)

wait your rdm/whm friends caste haste on you, so you can aspir faster? that's a first ive ever heard anyone do that but ok. Make your item set for the conserve mp gear I wanna see. I haven't put all my other things I have for certain spells. I do have some a resting gear set but its not fully complete, still need pieces.

Edit: If he's talking idling gear, for my refresh its my morrigan's robe. I gave away the black robe ages ago. I do however suggest you get a refresh robe when you run yote.

I could really care less if you want to talk to me. And for all intents and purposes, I could really care less how anyone decides to play thier BLM.

All I'm trying to tell you all is that there is a good way to play BLM, and there is a crappy way. If you're not utilizing a standing setup, you're a crappy BLM. End of story.

Gear doesnt make the player, it only helps the player. It is all based on how you know your job and what to do, not the gear. However it is common sense to have things to help them out in different areas.

wait a sec the standing gear you talk of is all gear that is damage taken -%?

If a blm is standing there, i hope they are out of range for aoes and afk in a spot that they dont die..

why would a blm be standing idle anyways, they should be focusing on whatever the event/situation is. Stunning when they supposed to, keeping eye on the surroundings, etc.

I'm kinda curious now of this standing gear

Well, I don't spam "HASTEMEOMGWTFORZ!"... I just ask for a haste when things are going well and they have plenty of MP. Which happens from time to time.

My conserve MP gear isn't really a "set up".
It's more of throwing together good conserve gear that doesn't drop my DPS too much.
Like, I use BLM Relic Feet instead of Rostrum Pumps.
Only 1 less INT, but +5 Conserve MP.
Little things like this help a LOT when it kicks in.

The point of standing gear is say for instance you are in Dynamis and you sleepga mobs. After you cast your enfeebling magic you switch back to the standing gear. If a mob wakes up early and comes for you, then you are already set for damage reduction. This should also be your "Oh ***I have hate" swap for kiting.

Basically if you aren't nuking, enfeebling whatever you ultimately should be in damage down and refresh gear unless you are taking a knee then you should be in hMP and MP+ gear.

who the *** are you again? I didnt call anyone cheap or lazy because they failed to reply to my post. I called them cheap and lazy because they dont seem to take the foresight to macro in a standing setup, when all it can do is make them a BETTER black mage.

Especially when you should already have an earth staff anyway, a basic standing setup can be had directly from the AH for 250k and three spare inventory slots (cheviot cape, sorcerer's earring, black cloak). If you cant afford that ***, you're cheap. If you dont want to macro it in, you're *** lazy.

Standing/Idle refers to any period in which you are not actively casting a spell, and you are not resting (hence, standing).

To further clarify, you are not actively casting unless the "Casting Time" bar appears in the top left corner of the HUD.

When you start looking at it that way, you'll realize exactly how much time you actually do spend idling.

Well, this is some stuff to think about.
Some helpful, some not very helpful.

Something to think about though,
You learn just as much from bad players, as you do from good players.
Just like you learn more from mistakes than success.

Keep your minds open and your possibilities are endless!
