All the condescension from the coasts really isn't making me want to vote (D), that's for sure. Whether it'll get a '*** you' vote for trump in 2020, I guess we'll have to see.

What did people expect would happen? One party rigged it's entire election system to support a single candidate since before they announced their candidacy. The other party was doing the same thing when a single candidate derailed their plan and forced them into holding a true open primary. That same candidate then won that open primary and went on to win the election against the predesignated candidate from the first party.

I've said this before, President Trump is the inevitable outcome of a broken political system. The outcome of 2016 election was predetermined.

this is taking to long...

ok if you ask just about any hippy who their least and most favorite presidents are and invariably they say Nixon-least favorite and JFK-most bestest favorite ever.

and the main issue of that era was the war in Vietnam and our involvement in it... and they were all vehemently opposed to it...

but strangely, our involvement in vietnam hinges on the one president that started us on the path of escalation to war and that would be the very same JFK their bestest most favorite president ever

now... some may argue that the gulf of tonkin resolution was after JFK was dead but LBJ was just following kennedy's orders and they were...kenedy escalation "pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and success of liberty.

and can you guess which president ended the war in vietnam that was so important that we get out of...

well of course it was Nixon the vile, nixon the villain, nixon the crook nixon the most hated man in america etc etc etc

how do square that to, let's say, a casual onlooker from another planet.... explain it to me so that I can explain it to them.

someone, anyone. jump on in!

You’re conflating though.

It’s no secret Kennedy got us in Vietnam in an attempt to help the French from losing their colonial grip and to curb the spread of communism.

You’re conveniently disregarding the public ire that was generated from the Tonkin Resolution and Operation Menu with Johnson and Nixon with Operation Freedom Deal.

It’s was Cambodia not Vietnam that tarnished their reputations (along with Watergate with respect to Nixon).

Who knows what Kennedy’s reputation would have eventually been if he had live through his presidency.

Nixon ended the war on the same terms he was offered FOUR YEARS EARLIER. Four more years of death and destruction.

Firehose bombing was invented on his watch.

Also the first American advisors were sent to Viet Nam under Eisenhower.

But yeah, it was JFK's neo liberal brain trust that really got us started in that quagmire.

Funny side note, Johnson was against the war but saw no way to get out. Nixon wanted to "get out with honor" but didn't manage even that.

As to why the hippies loved JFK and hated Nixon, remember the hippies were all first wave baby boomers. Their political awareness (if any) started with the 1960 election.

This is how they explain it to children

Nixon had a (R) next to his name, all the (R) people are evil, vile and should be cleansed from humanity to keep us pure. JKF had a (D) next to his name and therefor should be saved and admired, one day you too may have the honor of having a (D) next to your name.

then you're allowed to hate nixon for ending the war...

but this whole discussion stems from my own inability to explain it to my kid when he came home from school with the same puzzled look he comes home with almost every day the teachers try to fill his head with nonsensical things...

If the only thing that mattered was the war in vietnam then why do they love the guy that started it and hate the guy who ended it...

it didn't make any sense to a sixteen year old kid... who... granted...got the abbreviated version and probably didn't have firehose bombing explained to him chanti....

Careful they may put him on medication and send him to a reeducation camp school. Can't let one start questioning the indoctrination & propaganda, politically correct state approved doctrine, might spread to others.

they're pretty good about not letting the teacher know they think he is stoned to the gills on lsd...

and of course the longer the teacher raves about nixon the less work they have to do... so they egg him on quite a bit...

Kids getting smarter and smarter, they learning how to camouflage their non-politically approved worldview, might create a problem for the liberal overlords and their plan to create a DPRK like cult of personality around themselves.

my favorite gem from that show was a dude showed up to his mom's place, and was like 'wtf?!?! is this some kind of intervention?' and his mom goes ' well... yes, tony, it is ' and the kid goes 'aawwwww *** this ***, I'm out.' and starts to leave, when dude was into the entry hall, you hear his mom call out ' TONY! I got you a case of budweiser! it's in the fridge! ' the guy says ' for real ? ' proceeds to go to the fridge and look, and they talk him into staying, pounding some beers and hearing them out. I *** laughed so hard. I know I shouldn't find it funny at all, but man, every once in a while someone suffering just cracks me up.
