Not going to sit here and pretend LBJ was any kind of good person; he was a pervy old *** who liked to show his *** to anyone he could.
That said, I was under the impression it was pretty well known that LBJ was really not a fan of the Klan or the "Old South mentality" but he knew he needed them to win anything or get anything done so he played ball.
Which, if we're being honest, is probably a lesson most politicians today could stand to learn. Don't treat every single person who disagrees with you about everything as the worst of the worst that their party has to offer and maybe you can both get somewhere.
