Being PL'd =/= Standing still doing nothing
And yes I do, If I'm a healer or a Tank, and they won't let me play my job.

And it's not the exact same, but it's also not "earning" as you're having the hard part done for you. Or as you can say, it's like rare candy. Faster levels = less effort put in.

I'd rather pay to leech in an astral burn than grind out exp in conventional parties.
a)I don't have too tough a time making gil
b)Exp'n/Meriting is boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring and I hates it
I burned BRD/THF through to ToAU camps because I wanted ISP while I leveled. Now I can't even be bothered to do that because experiencing sucks.

It is more effort, than standing still AFKing in a tunnel waiting for summoners to kill mobs.
Yes, it's slightly lazy, but at least you have to be at your PC to gain levels.

Shiva.Flionheart said: And what would you do before SMN burning was discovered in that situation? You'd have the choice of levelling a job to do these things THAT YOU'VE EARNED, or to simply not. End game is supposed to be just that, End game. Allowing people who've never explored their jobs correctly do end-game makes for bad players.
Some jobs are worse for it, I've seen people levelling tank jobs, who still don't know how to use Cover. If they'd EXP'd that they would of learned that not doing it would result in the death of the party. In that example SMN burning made for the bad player, not the bad player SMN burning.
Before SMN burning was discovered, I had 2 jobs at level 75. After SMN burning, I have 3 (and my DRK wasn't even burned to 75). Leveling was never something I enjoyed. I simply did it because it's a necessary evil of this game.
Before SMN buring was discovered, I was actually active in end game, so it's not like I had any time to level something. Demanding work schedule and demanding end game schedule didn't allow much time to level. But my attitudes about the game have changed, and so did my opinion of "fun." End game wasn't fun anymore, so I quit. The only thing that was fun was going out with my social LS and doing whatever stupid ***came to mind, or helping people with whatever they needed. Things that people don't consider fun anymore, like farming Swift Belts or Soboros, or taking on an NM that we know we can't handle, or even going out and soloing merits in campaign battle is considered fun for me.
Astral Burning is considered fun for me. I don't think I'd have fun with it if I was doing it with random people.
I've earned every level and every piece of equipment I have. I'm quite content with where my main job (WHM) is at in terms of merits and gear. There's nothing on my "want list." I've pretty much reached my peak of where I want to be with that job. I have no interest in other jobs. I have no interests in end game. I don't even have interest in Maat's Cap, which you seem to think that's the ultimate goal of Astral Burners.
I've asked you this before, and I'll ask you again: I have no interest in end game anymore. It's not fun for me. I have no interest in kissing someone's *** to obtain a piece of equipment that will keep me happy until I discover a new toy I "need." I have no interest in keeping up with a schedule for a GAME. None. So I just don't do it. What's the harm in me Astral Burning? The only people it affects is the LS I do it with, and they don't give a damn obviously.
By the way, 3 75 jobs and I only fought Maat on one, and that was only to increase my level cap.
I enjoy camping NMs, actually. That's what I spend most of my time doing, whether it's for me or other people. I enjoy the one-on-one competition, not the Bot LS-against-Bot LS that HNM is.
Maybe you're still pretty new to this game, and have this wide-eyed sense of idealism of what the perfect Vana'diel is. But I've been playing since PC launch. That wide-eyed idealism you have is long gone. Vana'diel and its players aren't perfect, in fact, compared to other MMORPG communities, FFXI is the most divided of them all.

Enter generic "It's my 12.95, I'll do what I want with it statement." here:
There are aspects of partying that I enjoy, working with and meeting new people for example. But the act of partying and killing stuff over and over to level up became redundant long ago.
I enjoy crafting and helping people and meeting new people. So clearly I'm playing the right game.

Flion's getting a lot of hate here for a valid point. No matter how you look at it if you stand around in a SMN burn doing *** all for your levels other than paying, then you are a grade A gimp. It's the whole 'doing *** all' part that annoys us 'SMN burn haters'. And before anyone tries to draw a comparison to xping normally; it's completely different, stop kidding yourself.

Nowai in the TOS it says you must meet the monthly EXP quota otherwise you're not playing the game right!
/sarcasm
It annoys me when people dictate how you play a game.
Another note: I have nothing against Flion and understand where they're coming from. They don't have anything against AB'ing. Just against the part that people charge/pay for something so easily doable.
I'm with them 100% on being against it. If you have to charge for your time then you just need to quit the game. It's just plain stupid in my eyes.

Flion also thinks that his idea of fun (Maat's Cap, end game) should be the same for everyone else. He can hate SMN burning all he wants, but don't think for a second I should have to play by HIS rules.
I'm also interested in what you and Flion consider "leeches" in the actual AB. People who have never ABed before don't know all the prep work that goes before the actual burn itself. So please, enlighten me on your definition of leeches, because I can guarantee you, while I may be leeching during the actual burn, I'm the one doing the work while the SMNs stand there and do "*** all."

Some people also like to argue for the sake of arguing because they're bored at work
I dunno, you can say I'm a chump for paying to get astral burned. But the way I see it, if I can rub one out and get a few levels at the same time, that's win in my book.

You're reading into them as hostile, but you know better than that.

So because you don't agree with me, it's pointless? Of course it's long, that was my intent. Discussion.

Nothing wrong with SMN burn tbh. Once the job is 75, it's nothing you can't learn in less time than it would have taken to lv to 75 grinding exp.

No, you would just rather waste endless hours leveling in a "legit" party, going through the same motions countless time. That makes you a sucker. You're a sucker for ridiculous time sinks such as leveling the "legit" way.
By the way, do you ever Level Sync?

there must be a huge amount of ppl buying into SMN burns on other servers. bc i havent really seen it on ifrit or now here on shiva. i have a group of friends that do it, and we havent really been bothered by ppl asking to "Buy in" a leech spot. we have a fair amount of ppl @ sync level wishing to get a quick kick in the exp department. but that's usually about it.
i guess i can kinda understand being angry about ppl basically paying in for burn spots. but.... in all honesty, i could care less rofl. right now i've been lfp on my 35drk for about 2hrs. no invites, no one really seeking. if my buddies were on, i'd take my alt char as tank, get to pulling and we'd get to burning.
i guess the difference i see between my group and most groups is that we have 4 pullers, can reel in mobs much faster, and we go without dying. lol. it's crazy how many smn's we see get hosed during the burn phase. i don't get it but meh.
either way... don't ask to get into my burns, we're full unless you have a level 13 sync. we are pretty fair about "hoarding" the zone. we won't bother you unless you bother us. we are willing to "share" the zone if you are courteous and non-pigheaded.

The whole point is to learn as you level, not when you're a 75 PLD that doesn't know wtf Rampart does.
