real talk tho

They have already created the template for what to expect from a "free expansion" with rhapsodies, the content they are adding is the culmination of the 3 year funding cycle that has been paying for the VR missions. They are not being added for the 20th, these two things are separate.

The 20th is the celebration of the 20th anniversary as a milestone in the game and not an excuse to get something, in the same way Christmas or Easter is a celebration and not an excuse to get a car or something. Thinking they will do a remaster or add other jobs, or some other expensive stuff is ott.

Maybe they will do something outside of a holiday event and make some content but honestly I highly doubt it and people building this up into some massive content or surprise are overegging it, they have not said they will be and this has just been built up by some people themselves.

The content (endgame / zone w/e) we are getting that they have stated and we surmise being added is the end of the VR storyline and whatever comes from that, and not the 20th "payout".

Can’t see them spending money on anything that requires new models… we will be seeing strictly reskins only, including any areas they may or may not add.

Ooh, I wonder what zone they'll desaturate for Valhalla. Grayscale Nyzul Isle? Tunnels interrupted with darkened Hazhalm chambers? Maybe they'll redo the Palace of Hu'Xzoi in drab gray and red?

i vaguely remember reading some job was hinted befor it got released and i believe it was GEO, could have been just a theory of a forum member tho, not a official source. did the bubble trusts come befor or after GEO?

either way, monberaux has a unique toolkit that can't be found like that on existing jobs in the game which means they probably had to tinker with code snippets and maybe even write some stuff from scratch. at this point i don't see SE go that extra mile just for a single trust.

as i said the new town is very iffy and i only see it happening cause i also see new job/s happening and the introduction of such without anchoring it in a location lorewise would look too odd.
but i agree, the town is most likely going to be smaller than adoulin.

Chemist job sounds like an inventory nightmare.
unless they make it like PUP and you have some sort of "pack" you access to put your consumables in.

I would like to see how they tackled enmity for a player chemist.

I have zero thoughts that they are or will add a chemist though.

It makes me big sad that their latest go-to method for "balancing" GEO has been to remove half of its kit with oppressive nerfs to offensive geomancy spells.

also wonder how a interesting REMA would look like for chemist. they don't seem to have resources they depend on for their abilities, just rather short cooldowns. some REMA help easing resource management for their jobs but if chemist doesn't have resource management that falls flat and if their cooldowns are already pretty short a cooldown reduction isn't that exciting either.

other REMA focus on boosting damage output but i think they'll most likely be a healer/supporter class.

so the only thing left is potency increase for heals and buffs? maybe AoEing abilities?
wouldn't that feel like a copy paste of Idris or Yagrush, i don't know.

They don't even have to make it where you use consumables, just make them JAs like Monberaux. He uses "Mix"es. That's the idea behind a chemist, right? You make concoctions on the fly. They're on various cooldowns, and some of them even come with restrictions, like not overwriting other Mix / Conoction effect, or sometimes Doom removal misses. I think keeping normal medicine for all players (which come with a variety of restrictions: time, inv space, money, medication effect*) is fine, but the appeal of Chemist is that you can do most/all of those things and more just through the native job. It would be a bad idea if they tied it to actual items in your possession; I recall the horrors of running out of tools to play consumable-based jobs. It's annoying and inconvenient (which is why they might will go this route). Unless they make a "Universal" medicine kit similar to Ninjutsu tools. That could work as well I suppose.

I think Chemist should get job trait to enhance the effect of consumable items. Examples: makes hi-reraiser into RR4, makes potions/elixirs naturally heal for more, increase holy water efficacy.

Also they should have a divine seal type ability to make their consumeable aoe or something

Edit: this is in addition to non-consumable type items

My mind instantly goes to "we won't get a new job because of this and that", but really, aside from the possibility of it just being a poor implementation of a new job, what reason could they realistically have not to add the job? They can basically make 90% of the job using assets already in game. That is right up their ally for new content.

All advanced/new jobs have been linked to a new expansion or whatever, so it would be off script a little bit if they just said "here's Chemist". I haven't seen anything in the TVR storyline that would even make sense to fuse it there, if they chose to disregard the past and attach it to something new. They could still add it anyways, because why not, but a perfectly reasonable excuse is that they don't normally add jobs without the release of an expansion, so why would they start right now out of nowhere? Expansion = easy way to promote the game. SE has done next to nothing to promote FFXI, and I don't see them releasing an expansion at this point.

I wouldn't mind them using X-bow. Maybe getting more use out of Abrasion and other status bolts. Maybe give them massive amounts of Rapid shot.

Par for the course from the devs whose idea of balancing content is the nuke wall, AFAC nerf, etc.

Potions that go in the throwing weapon slots, new WS that do more status effects, TP Gain through potion usage.

Would be a nice dream.

I remember wanting throwing weapon skills for Ninja shurikens back in the day. It just kinda bothered me how almost-useful they were. Daken was a good call on the devs' part, though.

Younger me had some cool ideas for visuals, too. I had one where the shuriken kept orbiting the target for a second, cutting it up. Another one where you threw the shuriken and teleported to its embedded location, then backflipped away.

They'd have to add unlock quests, level breaks, AF/Relic/Empy quests (assuming they handle it like they did RUN and GEO), along with all of the models, job abilities, and effects associated with those things, then JSE weapons, along with the animations associated with the job and other items to modify currently unavailable skills. The level of effort scales the more you consider how they feasibly add a job that is effective in the current game and that each job has their own animations/weapons/armor/items. Even just revamping/adding items for the new job would be a massive task.

It's a lot of work for a job that would likely already be covered by existing jobs. They'd be better balancing existing jobs and giving neglected jobs (e.g. DNC) with healing ability more feasibility.

I think Chemist should work similar to BLU in the sense that it needs to set spells (medicines in this case) into a number of slots.

for example: lv10 "Mix" allows the mixing of 2 potions
lv30 "Mix II" allows the mixing of 3 potions
lv50 "Mix III" allows the mixing of 4 potions
lv80 "Mix IV" allows the mixing of 5 potions
these traits would allow the JA "Mix" to be used with permanant potions that you quest for as you level up like "MP potion" at lv5 which would be used with "HP potion" (which you start with at lv.1)

So basically under spells in the main menu (where you set blu spells) have another option "Mix" where you can set HP potion + MP potion = Mixed potion. this will grant a party member a small amount of HP+MP.

BUT mixing HP potion + HP potion = a potion that has double the healing potency.

eventually Mix IV would mean you could create a Cure V potency potion OR maybe mix it like HP potion x4 + Holy Water = Cure IV potency + Cursna.

maybe even call them Vials... like lv10 you get Green Vial, lv30 Blue Vial.

You could put 2x HP Potions into green vial to make Green Vial be a Cure II

You could put HP potion + Echo Drop + Soft into Blue Vial so Cure + remove those status ailments.

This would make Chemist one of those jobs similar to blu where you need to set spells(potions) before a fight to adjust to what you are fighting and know what to bring.
