What we want out of FFXI classic: To be 20 years younger with less responsibility so we can have the time to fuel the great experiences we made for ourselves with the game we love.

What we'd get out of FFXI classic: A game where we all complain about how long it takes to get anything done because it's too hard to dedicate 2-3 hours at a time to grind up one-quarter of a level.

Or alliance farm for coffer keys, only for the alliance to disband after the healer or tank get their keys.

New Exemplar Point Ring

What they should do but won't - Is change the drops( or add items/points you can trade for i119 Items) for ALL BCNM's to RENEW old content - Many of the old BCNM's are/can be a decent challenge especially with a Limit Cap but rewards stinks thus making them waste of time.

If you're not going to add new content Refresh the Old

Yeah, I'd be happy if they kept up with bringing old content back into the spotlight with new mechanics and rewards. They have been doing this with Dynamis and Odyssey, and has been pretty enjoyable

Really the only thing I would ask for is an SE approved graphical upgrade and some functionality upgrades like getting rid of animation locks and overall performance issues. My biggest complaint is I shouldn't be standing still for 10-15 seconds not drawing a weapon because monsters/allies/other people are casting on me in a daisy chain that never stops.

bringing old content back into the spotlight

They could, but they're not going to because they threw everything in AMAN Trove and called it a day. Shame, it was a missed opportunity to actually make older battlefields enticing.

They could have easily done "Spotlight Days" on certain HTBFs or content (like twice a week) where certain events yield additional rewards that are not commonly found in that battlefield. They could rotate it so people have the opportunity to do older content, and it doesn't have to be tied to monthly campaigns in any way. They could even throw in Ambuscade into the mix so people who don't bother with V2s could experience all of these new fights they spend their time on. I mean, they already have a Macrocosmic campaign that is something similar, and a HTBF additional spoils campaign - nearly no effort would be required to announce a lineup of battlefields every week that throws in a handful of extra spoils. But they don't think like that.

But yeah, never happen. Their lazy approach is just throw everything valuable in a Trials and Tribulations battlefield and let you spam it for months trying to get whatever you want. They have no interest in improving old content.

I was just thinking that Bahamut has been long forgotten in the FFXI world. That Bahamut V2 fight has potential to be brought back and turned into a new 18-man HTBF (with some anti-zerg measures incorporated, of course).

It's annoying to me they don't do more with stuff with mastery rank, people would work on this stuff if the numbers were visible. It's like they don't know the kind of players they have at all sometimes.

Warframe has just this kind of system and it's a huge motivator to do content people don't normally do.

It's not "like" anything, it IS that

That mastery rank progress bar would con so many more people into doing it. But they can't be bothered to do obvious things like that.

Limbus, einherjar, assault, abyssea, provenance (though they reused some of this for omen) amongst others, have yet to be remade. I’d take any of those in a 119 version. The beauty of all of this content is that it is alliance level possible, but can be cleared with less.

What are people's expectations for the 20th

A kick in the balls and half a moldy sandwich.

Maybe a month of half off your FFXIV subscription if you have an active FFXI subscription, just to try and move the last few holdouts over to the game they actually want to support.

And if we win, we can lock Bahamut from Asuran Refugee? :o

Port to FFXIV game engine.
Why it makes sense:
1. The game is old, and with the increase in activity it makes sense to update the game.
2. Replace playonline viewer with the FFXIV type launcher. This seems to be in demand.
3. Many assets/designs from FFXI has been ported to FFXIV already.
4. Shared tech on all levels between the games, may reduce maintenance cost and increase efficency.
5. Known issues from the PS2-limitation can be resolved.
6. New character customization options might be possible.
7. Custom HUD/UI might be possible.
8. Gain interest from new player base.
9. Faster zoning and sync updates.
10. Better graphics potential.
11. Better performance.

It's probably more.

If they can port to the FFXIV engine while retaining FFXI gameplay, that would probably be the single greatest move they could possibly make.

But that would mean not only throwing development resources at FFXI, but actually potentially taking them from FFXIV to do it. I can't see them doing it. Cheaper, easier, and better to let FFXI limp along until its players finally abandon it, than to inconvenience the favorite child to save older brother's life.

With all due respect, if we're going to bump up FFXI to a newer engine, why settle for one console generation up when technology has already advanced three generations?

Probably because it would be cheaper to adapt to an engine that they're intimately familiar with, with engineers who still actively develop on it (in fact they're actively expanding on it as we speak) than to hire on or move engineers over to deal with a newer, more complicated system for what would essentially be a legacy passion project for a niche audience.

Just because they have a better engine doesn't mean they

A) have enough people savvy with it to work on an entirely separate project

B) want to pay additional licensing fees or any other additional costs related to its deployment (unlike Luminous Engine + Crystal Engine offshoot hybrid that would later become XIV 2.0's engine, which is proprietary)

C) have anyone who knows how to use the new engine for an MMO, which would be significantly different than using it to make a single player game like FFXVI
