I'd like to know that as well. I can't relate. I've never been obsessed with another country's political leader, much less understood their country's political system. I was in London a little over a year ago, and one of our tour guides was trying to explain. It's the Prime Minister that runs England, but the overthrown monarchy still has some sort of say.

In the past I've said that the primaries are just theater and that the DNC already had their real nominees selected. By manipulating how the nominees are displayed they can manipulate the viewers perception, by manipulating perception they can manipulate choice.
To better understand the Democrats we just need to understand Palpatine. Palpatine was the ideal progressive, he got people to elect him and give him the required power to successfully execute the Sith parties agenda, all while amassing more power for his party and pushing them to a new more enlightened government.
