At the very least, mob levels across zones should net the same exact amount of Segments, because why would a player fight a monster of the same strength in a lower zone for less segments when that monster in C gives like 10 more points and it's just as strong?
Because they get a scale instead of a wing and that's totally better
And if you can't tell that's sarcastic, well, that's too bad
(why people are still stupid enough to be buying scales and hides...)

Yeah that's the unintended side effect of inconsistent segment rewards per zone. There is no interest in lower zones unless for MM or gil (if you can convince someone to join for these). If the points were based truly on mob levels, you would see more of an equalizing among the 3 mats. Hides/Scales might still come out higher since there's so many more useful augmentable accessories from AB unity mobs vs C
By Dodik 2026-08-07 10:44:34
Farming A and B enough times to fully augment all the relevant multi-job Unity NM accessories will net you about 1M segments without ever touching C.
How do I know? Because I've done it.
Granted it takes about 4-5 months, not daily.

Hmm.
Let's take Byrth's numbers as an example
Quote: I've been doing B while I build towards enough aurums to floor their cost. I do something like 3 halos and a few monster group and popped an aurum, 2 chests, and 2 coffers this morning. Maybe got 500 points at the exit? (update: 745 today)
The bonus for Otherworldly Vortex is 25% of Segments earned. So in Byrth's example he got
(745 x5) 3725 Segments in a B run.
Let's just assume he was slow, because he is dual boxing, focusing on Moogle Mastery and not necessarily max kill speed, so his segments could be higher than that if he straight killed only Nostos and Agons.
Bump it to 5k (being generous), and spread it over the course of 5 months (152 days or so), thats 760,000 Segments of farming Sheol B exclusively for 5 months straight, daily. Not close to 1m. If you take any of these days and go into Sheol A (less segments), your numbers go down.
You would have to earn somewhere around ~6580 Segments per day (between Sheol A/B) to reach 1 million segments in 5 months.
Not saying I don't believe you, but even going off of your past numbers
Most my segs are from capping Moogle mastery, and have done a lot more runs of A and B than I have done runs of C.
Have any of you suggesting doing A/B instead of C ever actually done these zones for Segments?
Yes, Buukii. I had some 1.2m segs banked last time I checked, most from A/B. A will net 1.5-2k on average, B 4k. It's not much, but if you do not do a run one day, you get 0.
Something > 0.
So your numbers are around 4k/ B run (which is quite close to Byrth's number of 3725). If we take your own numbers at face value, there's no way you can hit 1m Segments in 5 months doing Sheol B daily (and you said you don't have to go daily). Either you are underselling how quick you got to 1m (or even at all), how many segments you got per run, or that you were in fact going daily. Or maybe it took longer, like 7-8 months. But your numbers don't add up to what you just said.

Fwiw I got MM45 ages ago and only accumulated about 250k segs while doing it.
Now I'm flooring aurum costs. It's different!!
Also yeah, I'm running at normal speed triboxing and focusing on halos even when it doesn't make sense for segs because 10 is a lot of points. Typically I do halo on 1, halo on 6, halo on 5, kill the good groups I've seen, pop chests, exit. I do use Hoxne MNK as my DD, but I don't have a WHM (GEO+COR), so I can't comfortably pull all the monsters on the high floors.
I keep getting Aurums that just drop 3 Hides. Not boxes, just Hides. It's payback from all the keying I did.

3 Large Lustreless Hide Boxes in an Aurum is a myth, you'll never see it.
By Dodik 2026-08-07 11:36:04
I don't remember how long it took tbh. 6 months? I didn't actually count.
I did in fact have >1M segs at the end of it.
Not saying a newbie or true solo person can do the same in the same amount of time.
But you will end up with a lot of segs - hundreds of thousands - if you actually farm all your scales and hides, no question about it.
And yes, mostly clearing halos not regular mobs. Goal was to get izzat to pop chests not get segs.
I didn't go daily, there were a lot of days I went twice though from banking (if I remembered).
I'm cheap af, no way I'm buying scales or hides.

There's a new item "Orvail box key" in the login campaign rewards. I'll guess it has something to do with the new adoulin nms. And confirmed - https://x.com/FFXI_JP/status/2085606281755402460
The new NMs drop chests and you need the keys to open those chests. As they mention, there's a way to get keys that isn't login points.

Let's just keep coming up with the dumbest *** ideas.
Catch up gear, that drops in a box that you need to do other content to get keys for. Brilliant.
Supposedly can get with ambuscade points. Just to be obnoxious.
Box better be 100% and the mob better be always up or poppable with zero cooldown.

Did you expect anything but something stupid? I know folks are always like "you have to wait 45 days for odyssey gear" but Jesus outside of alte/new multiboxers, you have plenty to do in those 45 days and not waste time getting midgrade armor...
All this effort when they could just make +3 ambu gear(I realize they can't do this because some of the items would be crazy good)

Ambu +3 could have been marginally better gear with a good bump in defensive stats and small increases to stats, attack and accuracy. It doesn't need anything mindblowing to be a helping hand through accessible content.

For all the complaining people do about SE's decisions, they are clearly gaining subscribers. Maybe step back a bit and realize that endgame players aren't their priority any more and they are trying to address deficits in the new player experience.
Getting to 99 and immediately leeching Gaol then hitting a brick wall isn't engaging. Working your way up through a bunch of light and friendly content continues the experience you had while leveling and provides opportunity to meet other players.
[+]
By Dodik 2026-08-09 07:28:44
That's all well and good.
Doing the Gaol climbs is also a fun and social experience that scales from fresh i119 to i150+, if they get there.
Why is there not an easy progression path to that.
Why does a new player have to farm a bunch of intermediate gear that will be thrown away as soon as they get V0 Gaol clears.
How is that a good experience for a new player.

Isn't this a step in the easy progression path to that? Most likely, these NMs are the equivalent of a fulltime strange happenings. Instead of synergizing the mats, you open the box with a key.
Throwing out gear because you got better gear isn't necessarily a bad experience, but it's also not a foregone conclusion the gear will be thrown out. Quite a few jobs have potential uses for Amb+2 post-Nyame, especially when working through the light content people need to do for AF upgrades and swap gear. Unauged odyssey gear is pretty light on STP/multihit aside from Sakpata. You haven't even seen the stats on this gear, unless I missed something: what if it's got accessories?

They've already said it's a step above ambu but below empy, +4 or Odyssey geazr.
Will be glad to see it being useful beyond just a stop gap.
And no, I don't agree ambu +2 is relevant to someone that has even V0 Odyssey gear, let alone +2/+3 empy.

I don't agree ambu +2 is relevant to someone that has even V0 Odyssey gear,
When you have options, obviously you never take off max m.eva set. I agree with you on that frequently. You can get pretty good damage while still being in a high m.eva set with very few sacrifices. On the other hand, if you're just starting out, the pieces you do have to play with make more of a difference.
Mpaca's Cap+Feet gets you 6 TA, 80 acc, 80 attack. Flamma Head/Feet gets you 5 TA, 6 DA, 12 STP, 86 acc. Gleti's gauntlets are 2 regain and either 7 PDL or 40 attack (not benefitting from both in many cases) vs 6 DA on Mummu wrists. Gleti's cuirass is similarly competing against 7 DA from Ayanmo Corazza +2. 5 TA on Meghanada Legs. Never mind if you play RUN and you're getting absolutely nothing from Agwu's and just attack from Nyame.
Getting that first Odyssey set is an introduction to the concept of situational gear. Your overall damage will drop marginally and your TP gain speed will drop dramatically if you swap from your best ambuscade gear to your odyssey set for every job that isn't on Sakpata. So, no, you don't just throw out all your gear the second you get those clears. Do you really need full nyame to poke around Omen trash or farm merits for HTBCs with trusts?
By Dodik 2026-08-09 08:15:18
You're claiming Odyssey gear, or empy +2, is situational gear. I disagree.
It's gear you use say for TP purposes 100% of the time, because the minor dps increase from ambu gear means a huge drop in survivability.
A true solo person using trusts is better served by being able to take less damage, fewer debuffs and generally survive more, not a minor dps increase.
I know some people will disagree. I wager those people have never tried to do even mid-tier content true solo with just trusts.

How much damage do you take while farming merits, doing job points on low apex, farming omen cards, doing AF quests, doing old dynamis, or many of the other activities that a relatively new player still has to participate in? There are a LOT of early game activities where nothing will ever get TP and your target will die the first time you WS. There are also a lot of conditions where you don't want to go entirely without a trust healer, but they're there and not taxed in the least with either set.
I'm not saying there aren't people who will throw out their ambuscade gear after getting Odyssey gear, nor that there aren't "veterans" who'll tell them to do so. It doesn't mean that it's logical or correct.
By Dodik 2026-08-09 08:26:31
How much time are you saving by using ambu gear for merit farming.
Come on, what is this.
It's inventory- trash. Let it go.

Over 10% DPS in some cases, never mind the experience of having faster TP gain or making more SCs. Flamma Zucchetto+2 is still the highest DPS TP piece in some sets with all gear available. I'm not going to make the case that the maxed out player who has a ton of options needs to use it[though I have seen it made here], but why would a new player throw out a substantial damage increase for an often negligible defensive one? The same new people who have 2 sets have wardrobe space problems now?
Gear swapping is part of the game. If it starts with changing 2 pieces of ambuscade gear for 2 pieces of Odyssey gear, that's a learning opportunity not a hindrance.
By Dodik 2026-08-09 09:11:13
Over 10% DPS in some cases
Sorry, that's BS.
There are indeed cases where ambu gear is situationally useful - en-spell enhancement, song duration, fast cast etc.
Standard TP sets with ambu gear in them do not give you 10% dps increase, that's complete BS.
Let's see some data if you want to make claims like that. No, I don't mean sims.
By the time someone gets empy, AF and Odyssey gear, and gears up two+ jobs, yes ambu TP gear becomes inventory-. Speaking from experience.
It's fine if you think otherwise. I will never ever agree with that pov and have yet to see any evidence that there is a significant dps increase from it.
By Garfield 2026-08-09 09:11:35
Dodik's wet dream would be when SE updates Nyame B to have DA+10 per piece, then he never has to unequip it for any job.

Dodik, I like you, but I like Flamma Zuchetto +2 more.
I mean I don't think it's ten percent DPS (maybe it is when the rest of your gear isn't great, actually? 5% TA, 6 store tp, and randomly 36 STR also) but I do think it's gonna be a lot better than most of the hats a newish player can get in that slot!
Especially for the poor bards... though they shouldn't be merit farming on bard anyway.
[+]

though they shouldn't be merit farming on bard anyway.
Correct.
Yes, 5% TA is a lot.
As is DT-10, meva+123, def 131 you get from R0 bunzi's hat. At a lowly r15 you also get storetp 4. And btw brd can't wear flamma.
For every situation where flamma head might save you a few seconds, something like odyssey or empy gear might be a bit slower but a lot safer. Most dds have a lot better options from either empy or af +4 anyway.
Like I said, it's fine if literally no one agrees with this. I will never change my opinion.

If the Flamma set got a measly -25% DT and a bit more meva, it'd be in most dps sets for the jobs that can use it. It's pretty amazing from a pure STP/MA perspective. Probably the few other pieces Thorny mentioned too. I'm on team ambu+3 because it's so easy to implement and would benefit everyone. Which means they'll never do it.
