Stolen bike
Google adds love to add salt to the wound.
saw the thread, knew it was Tiger's...
unless you have some sort of identification, registration, etc on it I doubt there's anything anyone can do, hopefully it wasn't that expensive of a bike but knowing how it's your main source of travel I suspect it wasn't a walmart cheapy either. short of reporting it to the police, and maybe asking around (depending on where it was stolen from) you're unfortunately probably ***out of luck. (maybe start a paypal and see if people will donate for a new/used replacement, but not sure on the legality of that...) Ah
The shoe is on the other foot I only know of "preventative measures" to re-obtaining a bike or lawn gear. If you spray paint your bike with something definitive, you can browse pawn shops throughout the week to find it and possibly get a trace on the *** who stole it. Of course, the moment you find out it was stolen, report it to cops(who won't do ***, you have to do the work yourself). If you can manage to get video evidence of the dude at the pawn shop, then annoy the cops enough to do something about it, they might do something.
The spray paint with your name on it is pretty important though, otherwise their defense will be "that's just some other bike". Asura.Kowen said: » I'm really sorry to hear about that, Tiger. I'm sort of aware of your living situation so I know you really don't deserve anything like that. Last year I had a brand new bike stolen the day after I bought it, right off of some campus bike racks too... If you want, PM me some PayPal details and I'll see if I can send $50 or so for you to put towards a new one. came back from the gym to this posted on my facebook wall -.- lol'd heartily at *** stole my bike
sorry I don't have any suggestions that haven't already been suggested, but I hope you're able to recover it.
All of the things that have been suggested seem like about all you could do, which is kind of depressing, since it seems to me that it would be a pretty big time investment, just for the chance of a payoff - not really a payoff, since you'd just be getting your own property back.
Kinda seems like it would be just as tough, and better, to try to make some extra money and buy another one - at least the bike would be guaranteed. If you don't have the serial number info (usually it's on a plate on the frame) you can always ask the original owner from Craigslist--if you have their contact info still--to provide that to you.
Then if you do go make a police report or do go out and about to pawn shops you'd have a better chance at identification/recovery. I don't. I used someone else's phone to call the guy since it said on the ad he didn't want any emails. That was almost half a year ago. Contact info is long gone
Walk up to VT and I'll give you my bike to ride back down on :( It's a nice mountain bike.
I'd check around at the local bike shops, schools, the already mentioned CraigsList, pawn shops and news papers. Sorry to hear about it.
Had one of the kids that used to work with me have his bike stolen at Wal-Mart, he found it at a boarding house down the road. I've had a residual 10 bucks or so sitting in my paypal account for like two months now. I know you said you didn't have an account, but if it's possible for you to get one, you can have it.
I know your bike was your main mode of transportation, so it sucks extra hard that it was stolen. If you are able to set up paypal, send me a PM and I'll send you what's left in my account. I think it might be 12 or 13 bucks. I realize it's not going to get you a bike, but it would be a start. I got my bike stolen when I was studying in the Netherlands, so I know the feel bro! But most bikes have a registration number, so if you happen to have that handy, it would be a start to give to the police plus a description of the bike. But frankly, I find that it also helps to insure your bike against theft.
Also, I would invest into a nice and thick chain or two to use as a lock. Then try to get a lock which is very sturdy and hard to break. In other words, NOT a padlock or something weak like that. Get one that is hard to cut or break, because most thieves would use a bolt cutter to break locks fast and easy. Ultimately though, if a thief is persistent and tenacious enough, they will find a way to steal your bike. Period. But I guess the point I am making is, make life hard for them. When I had my bike stolen, I bought two thick chains with two different types of locks for my next bike. I would wrap one around the front of the frame and the front tire, and the other around the back of the frame and the back tire. And always wrap the chains around something, like a lamp post or whatever. I also had an additional lock which came with the bike and was attached to the frame and would lock up the back tire as well. Never had a bike stolen from me again so far, I assure you! Seem to be in pretty good shape, you don't have to be super crazy but if you see someone ridding it and you are pretty damn confident its your bike, confront the person about it. That's what worked for me and i took my bike from the guy in a non-violent way, however i was ready to take it their at the time if he didnt heed my stern command to cough over my bike. Was finally able to get the paypal thing linked with my account. Hate to have to ask for something like this but with school a week away, have to just bite the pride bullet at this point and say thank you Quetzalcoatl.Mnkk said: » Sylph.Tigerwoods said: » Just got my bike stolen today, wanted to see if there was something I could do to increase chances of finding it Just keep an eye out for it. This bike that got stolen was under 2 miles, so it was taken in an area I'm in all the time. No luck thus far though I haven't received a PM bro. I'm not sure if there is some type of delay or what. I just logged into paypal and it looks like I have $17.05 left in there. You're most welcome. Like I said, I see how much you use your bike to survive and I'm glad to help.
Hopefully the PM comes through soon, otherwise there might be something wrong with my inbox on here. nvm you got it 1 sec
I guess that means no luck tracking it down online?
I just tracked down my PayPal information. I set it up forever ago and linked my bank account, but never added money to it. It says it takes 3-5 days for the money to come out of my account and be added to PayPal. Try to remind me (or keep this bumped) and I'll help you out once the money is in my account. Yea, no luck with pawn shops or craigslist for my bike. The person may just be keeping it as well who knows. It was stolen near my house though so hopefully I see them on it one day and thank you very much
That sucks. I've only ever had minor stuff stolen from me to this point (usually car cd players), never anything that I actually needed. Though, I was able to make light of it last summer when the interior of my car was set on fire.
I can only offer up like $15-20, but if enough people are willing to help out, at least it'll add up. Valefor.Slipispsycho said: » First thing you have to do is make a police report... Actually the first thing you do is, when you first got the bike write down the serial number. Sorry if that sounds snarky. Sylph.Tigerwoods said: » Just got my bike stolen today, wanted to see if there was something I could do to increase chances of finding it Made a new thread specifically for donations to help Tiger get himself a new bike.
Alexander.Sumo said: » Tiger, message me a description of the bike. i'll keep an eye out on tampa's craigslist. You must be new here? Tigerwoods' bike is famous ... because it's pink and a piece of junk (unless he got a new bike since I last pestered him about his pink bike). The big question here is (assuming Tigerwoods didn't get a newer bike), why would anyone steal an old pink bike? Lol your memory deceives you. It was the pink house you've always made fun of and the bike that was stolen was posted in this thread.
But you still probably have me blocked which is why you probably didn't see it or won't see this. I'm still in the pink house, but have never owned a pink bike. Don't know why I thought you lived in a pink house with a pink bike. That's too much pink. Sorry to hear your bike got jacked. Thieves should be stoned publicly in my opinion ... not brutally, just enough to embarrass the heck out of them. |
