Cloud wasn't obsessed with Aeris, there did seem to be some mutual attraction but that could easily be argued down to Zack's overriding personality on Cloud.

Hell, did you forget that it's heavily implied Cloud and Tifa have sex when they all go clear up their loose ends before the showdown against Sephiroth?
