I really think once we get more jobs out for citizens and lower the unemployment rate this will work out quite well in the end. But really, it's far too early to say for sure. Things like this take years to come into full swing despite being passed.

Did it happen? no it didn't. Thank him now.
Fear of nuclear holocaust -> holocaust doesn't happen -> thank Reagan. Okay.

Fear of medical bankruptcy -> insurance reform -> thank Obama. Not okay?
Obama isnt helping healthcare at all he is ruining it so no thanks.
How?

If what you say is true, why do the CBO numbers state otherwise? Is the CBO all of the sudden an invalid source?

Dude omfg, be careful. You might meltdown some peoples' brains telling them there's something called the CBO. They might have to learn what Google is to look it up.

Oh, btw

No more private student loans. All student loans will be government based. This was added to the bill at the last minute.

If you are a doctor expect a major pay cut.

Enjoy

Are you also in support of bailout money for cash mongering CEO's that flop a big business i guess?
Nope. That's why I'm in favor of what Obama said he would like to do at the State of the Union: have a tax that serves as interest to the banks that received bail out money until they pay it back.

I didn't like it when Bush did it, and I especially didn't like it how the first half of the ~ 700 billion Bush paid out didn't have any conditions with it. I hated how both "had" to do it, and I think that that hatred is, more or less, me confronting the ugly truth that they were indeed "too big to fail." That's why I'm interested in seeing what will happen with this consumer protection agency. Since the "too big to fail" argument forced a bailout, I stopped banking with Wachovia and opened up an account in a community bank, so I'm doing my part to "make them smaller."

Local banks have so much better service and less penny pinching policies. As long as they're FDIC covered I think most normal workin folks will be just fine.

Since college may keep you out of the workforce till your mid-20's, this bill makes it to where you can remain on your parents insurance till you're 26. Don't know if that applies to you, but for some still in school full-time it's pretty nice.

That site gives a pretty good breakdown of what will happen and when.

One of the big ones in my opinion.

*Insurance companies will be barred from dropping people from coverage when they get sick. Lifetime coverage limits will be eliminated and annual limits are to be restricted.

However there are some additional taxes for people.

*The Medicare payroll tax is raised to 2.35 percent from 1.45 percent for individuals earning more than $200,000 and married couples with incomes over $250,000. The tax is imposed on some investment income for that income group.

Why did they need any government assistance? Just let the free market take care of it all! lolololol

I kinda see what you're saying but it's wrong, we already pay taxes to the government, essentially for protection.

In a situation like this, the government kind of owes it to citizens to intervene and help them.

Where as someone who is too lazy to work and obtain their own health care (which isn't *** hard, you can even get decent health care working at a restaurant with no education) ... is an entirely different story, the tax payers don't owe them ***, neither should our government.
Why do my taxes have to go to help people too stupid to move out of the way of a hurricane? They are slow moving and the warning was out for days!

Why do my taxes have to pay for people who were in 9/11? None of my family were hurt in any of that Why should my taxes pay for their "revenge" against whoever did it?

The main issue I hear from the right, is one of personal responsibility. My question is how far would they like to take that? My guess is the above two situations wouldn't have people from the right agreeing with me. They would argue that they fall under the need of a nation to protect it's citizens.

My argument is that the health of a community is similar to the security of one. Battling poor health is a war, and one the American people have been loosing. This health reform bill provides the help we health professionals need. I dream of a day when my emergency room isn't treated like a primary care clinic.

How will more jobs come about with the government bearing down on small business owners, a business with say 5-10 employees isn't exactly cost effective to start up unless you run like part time workers and dont offer benefits, now the government will bear down on places like this.

Say a *** hot dog stand, you employ like 2 ppl who each work part-time, you really going to offer full medical and dental for this loljob?

If they would focus more on the underlying problems like the unemployment rate itself and encourage business more, more people would be carrying insurance anyway.

Another underlying problem with the current system that they could have remedied rather than completely revamping everything:

Medical Malpractice suits, everyone and their mom is so eager to sue because you can get rich as hell for basically nothing... Do away with this philosophy and health care costs itself would decrease drastically. I can understand malpractice suits for something major but seriously, people sue over lame ***and get by with it all the time.

Private loans are important to someone like me who can't get much money from the gov b/c of my parents' credit score. If all loans are completely government run, I would only receive 4k a year. 4k a year won't pay for ***.

A student lender is something entirely different than a private banker. Most individuals can(could) get money from a private banker against wicked interest rates.

Student lenders however get subsidies from the goverment. Student lenders don't do mortgage, insurance or heavy loans. But they still use your taxes to make money of off students.

Australian Government has been doing student loans for higher education for as long as I can remember. Called the HECS (Higher Education Contribution Scheme.) Basically it's just a very very very stupidly low interest loan, given only to students studying at Uni. After you finish your degree/course and join the workforce, you start paying it back (at a very sustainable rate.) The government gets a more productive workforce without having to spend any money (they get it back, with interest.)

One of the big complaints I hear from American Uni/College students is about how massively expensive their student loans are and how they don't have any money to do anything.

Is the government going to be charging more interest than the current private rate? If not, why is this a bad thing? More people being able to afford education would make your nation smarter (and therefore, IMHO, better.)
