Final Fantasy 13
It should be only used if you're clearly not strong enough. It's way too inconsistent.
Oh yeah, I mean do whatever you want - it's an offline game, you're not hurting anyone else. I just find it somewhat distasteful because it's no better than just spamming Zanmato on stuff in FFX.
Bahamut.Raenryong said: it's an offline game OMG SPOILERS Very impressed with the game. There are some let downs including lack of towns and the ability to move around, but I think the graphics and the story make up for that.
My god, the voice acting in this game is amazing. When comparing X to XIII as far as voices go, it's a great feeling to not want to play in traffic when hearing Lightning's voice : "Cid... You traitor!" One of my favorite lines in the game. It takes a while to develop your characters and in my opinion, took way to long to finally have access to all 6 and have the ability to use who you want, when you want. My favorite team is Fang/Lightning/Hope. The boss battles are a real challenge. There were a few that took me quite a few tries to get past, and it doesn't help that some of the battles, you're given a random team with *** Paradigms. You spend 10 seconds looking at which ones they gave you and who's doing what, and by the time you get it down, you're dead. *coughcoughBahamutfightcoughcough* Currently grinding on Hoplites before my Hecatonchier fight. 30k CP in about 7-10 minutes? (Yes, please.) Overall, I'd give it a 9/10. Lacks some of the classic FF themes like a Victory Theme when there's perfect timing for it, but there's a lot that just makes you think, "Damn. What a great game."

SO, I finally got around to playing this game. Half of me loves it, the other half of me wants to take the game back where I got it and move on.
The actual game part, is amazing. The graphics are hands down the best I have ever seen in a console video game. The menus and interface are slick and responsive, clean and neat. So, the game part is top notch. Combat is very fast and exciting, almost like watching a scene from a movie. But, as for the other stuff, the story is already blah, and I literally want to strangle each and every character in the game I've seen. The only one I can half way tolerate is the guy with the chocobo baby, but everyone else is a flimsy anime cliche at it's worst. The "big tough brawler guy" literally has a woman's face and feathered hair. Just. Like. Every. Other. FF. Character. Post FF7(Lightning = female Cloud Strife). The rebel resistance members all looks like 12 year old raver kids. No one even has a smudge of dirt, yet it's supposed to be in the middle of a war. SE spent so much effort making everything look pretty and beautiful, I think they forgot about the actual story they were telling. Imagine Saving Private Ryan done by the cast of Zoolander. I only got 1 hour into the game, and had to turn it off. The dialogue was making my skin crawl. thatsd the problem with 13.. there is a lot of.. "just follow it" rather than explore early on.
once you get like 3/4 of way into game you can explore a lot more... stick with it.. the story is actually really good. Cerberus.Drklighter

My wife thought I was watching porn because Vanille moans so much ... seriously, listen to her throughout the game, sounds like she is orgasming 1/2 the time.

I noticed I used Vanille much more after that :)

This is gonna be a huge *** necro bump but does 13 even give EXP and levels? Been playing like 4 hours now and I have yet to see any level ups etc or even EXP for that matter.
Basically, the leveling system is a watered down version of FFX's, wherein the stat caps only goes up when story dictates.

I love 12, the macro system is boss near the end of the game. I just hope this gets better.
The game gets one expansive area and it's pretty boring. It doesn't get better, but I finished it anyway.
I also hated 12 too though. I don't think there's been a good offline FF since IX, but I'm really particular when it comes to stories. They've all been ***recently. I'm still having trouble motivating myself to complete this game- tt is not very good. The graphics are amazing, but the story, the linear design, and the (in my opinion) stupid leveling system do not make this game a repeat player...
The leveling system is what it is, and that doesn't necessarily ruin the game for me, but the story line and the linear game design are major flaws in my opinion. It was all in how you set the macros. Yiamzit is one of my favorite FF boss battles ever due to this.

God I hate them. Mostly Hope, there always has to be some HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE kid. I personally loved the story and the way it was set up. However I also had a crazy cyber crush on Vanille! Lakshmi.Dobbykk said: I loved everything about FFXIII minus Snow and Hope. God I hate them. this winter coming out ff13 X-2! Ramuh.Attribute said: I'm likin the red hair pigtails chick. XIII is terrible but in a can't look away sort of way.
I didn't like the story at all, and I don't see how anyone could - the universe could've had something going for it but none of it was fleshed out, even in the codex (which you shouldn't have to stop and read anyway. It should be presented). XII's story lacked a motive (why does Venat want to give humans power, and why do the other Occuria want to stop that from happening?) and XIII lacked intrigue. If you give Barthandelus' goal to the Occuria in XII, you have a complete story. I got the Platinum Trophy in the game for doing everything, and I really don't know why. Just the completionist in me, and where previous titles you'd consider beating the strongest optional bosses and obtaining the best weapons as full completion, this game forced you (due to trophies) to obtain every item. It felt alright in the end, but I'm generally not that big of a completionist. My girlfriend on the other hand loved the game. She'd never played FF or really any videogames prior, and I was shocked when she started playing it one day after watching me play it for 2 weeks straight. I must say, it's a lot more fun to watch than to play. I recently replayed XII since I absolutely hated it but I've always had the itch to try to fully explore the game. Seeing my girlfriend pick it up put me over the edge, and now I'm decked out with several of the best weapons. I have yet to beat Omega Mk. XII or Yiazmat, in fact I'm just before Pharos, but I can say that replaying it has made me love it and I would recommend it for those who disliked it. Being put off by the odd treasure system (Zodiac spear unobtainable based on picking up chests) and lack of focused storytelling in some parts can be remedied by fully taking the time to explore and master the game. It's really rewarding and it'll put a new face on otherwise lackluster characters (Basch and Gabranth are probably two of the coolest in the series period). |
