The HorizonXI-thumpers saying stuff like "Our server was so epic that even Square-Enix felt threatened and had to shut us down because they knew they couldn't compete" The anti-HorizonXI crowd saying stuff like "They did this to themselves. It's because they were going around being so incessantly vocal about their server. Of course Square-Enix are going to notice it when some of the places they're using to divert players from Retail into their cult-server are official media channels." 1.) Avoid copyrighted artwork. 2.) Do not alter/remove/obfuscate logos or branding of the product/product owner. 3.) Do not host the software. So...yeah. Emulation precedent is a horse long beaten to a pulp, so I won't get into the weeds on that. Does Horizon do the things above? I'm legitimately asking because I have intentionally avoided going anywhere near their software. And even if he is it isn't like Tyler can't afford to just lose that money. Hell, he tried to donate 10k to Wings' Patreon after having only played there for like 2 months, so why wouldn't he spend even more on a project run by a dude whose wedding he was a part of? Either way it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. If a millionaire wants to bankroll his buddy's crazy personal project then hey good for him, at least it isn't just sitting in a bank account doing nothing. The people who made nostalrius were never hired in blizzard, infract they brought them and questioned their coding, they laughed at the private server source code on their reasoning of when onxyia's breath happens Asura.Rekcuf said: » The people who made nostalrius were never hired in blizzard, infract they brought them and questioned their coding, they laughed at the private server source code on their reasoning of when onxyia's breath happens I didn't end up following the project over to Elysium, so I don't know how the rest of that story goes, (When Nost shut down that was the catalyst that led me back to FFXI) but I wouldn't be shocked if they never even managed to actually sit down with Blizzard again after that database handoff. It kind of doesn't matter cause Nost's thing was always "We'll close down if Blizzard does actual vanilla" from day 1, so in the end they got what they wanted. Did they have a Nostalrius llc? Send it to their headquarters? My original point was: making a business is not relevant to liability, responsibility for your employees'/volunteers' actions, breaking copyright laws, etc. You save yourself exactly 0 of these problems by not incorporating a business. It was a rhetorical question, I was referring to this: Dodik said: » Businesses have liabilities. Such as copyright infringement, trademark violations, lawsuits for harassment by staff and so forth. Which seems to imply that somehow as long as Horizon isn't run by a business, they don't have liabilities w/r/t copyright infringement, trademark violations, lawsuits for their staff, and so forth. I dunno why people here care so much about Horizon or seeing private servers burn. Like if you play them then fine, if you play retail then also fine. I swear some people here have nothing going on in their life but to make drama.

It caused windower issues since they didnt have everything done exactly how it is for retail and windower would crash as a result. got enough reports that I installed it to look into the issue but stopped caring about it so never resolve the "problem", we just redirect all the people looking for horizon help to their own discord. All that you say at one point it did a ffxi client install, I can not say if that is still the case Fenrir.Niflheim said: » Asura.Saevel said: » Carbuncle.Nynja said: » Asura.Gweivyth said: » 2.) You still have to download the files, but you don't actually have to run thru the installation process so that's probably what they were doing. but like I said, I do not know what their installer currently does. it sounded like they might make you do your own client install now? I honestly didn't ask about custom data files when I was seeking legal counsel on this because we didn't have any plans to do that sort of thing back when I was doing it, so I'm not as confident about what sort of legality that may open them up to. I don't they aren't going anywhere unless SE decides to drop a nuke but the twitch is A-ok to laugh at I mean I play on both, and from the PS side most players in the Horizon community know that it could be shutdown at any point but we still enjoy playing it - with a large chunk of them still subbed to retail also. They’re also just dissociated with all this drama and just play to have fun in an era they enjoyed. I would hate to think this but honestly i wouldn’t be surprised if the hate train was leading people to mass report others to SE. Sad to see so many people from retail cheering to ruin people’s nostalgia and enjoyment.
We cummed together for the greater hood...

Also you really think it’s “tinfoil hat” for people to troll report private servers to SE? It’s not hard to hard, and I wouldn’t be shocked if people had done so already. Just like i wouldn’t be shocked if people reported streams for copyright. The point is everyone here sweaty and desperate for drama. The majority is very solid and fun, which I think is the main driver as to why it’s popular. MOST players know going into it 75 era is a grind, but atleast it’ll will be a grind other players.
