Why do you hate new players so much you so desperately want them to quit.

Just give them some gil to buy the base rse off the curio.

Saying this as someone that procrastinated on finishing those quests for 20 years until they were finally added to curio.

IDK, I've found that the newer casual players, or returners from looooong ago, tend to like that sort of old content. These are the same people I know who are enjoying stuff like doing the avatar fights, making an Ark Pentasphere to attempt DM, working through the expansion mission lines, etc. This is sort of right up their alley.

Obviously, if it's people that can handle stuff like Sheol segment farms, Ambuscade, or whatever... they can make gil and just buy the thing themselves from the Curio Moogle, and that's what I'd suggest (and might just give them some gil if it's just a matter of affording it). But I'm talking about people aren't at that point yet. They view 100k items as exorbitantly expensive, they might not have more than a single job at level 99 (or might still be working on getting their first), might be working through missions and limit breaks, etc. Had a guy yesterday talking about tracking the times of the ferry departures for whatever reason. These aren't your usual FFXIAH posters lol.

Some goofy thing like a treasure hunt and a XIV Fate styled fight (that is something they tend to understand, a lot of them know XIV) is the kind of "go explore the world of Vana'diel" stuff that is precisely the reason they want to check out FFXI, and it's what I see them really enjoying. I could just give them a million gil, but that really wouldn't result in them actually having a good time. And this is pretty great gear for them to ding into at 99 as a baseline and start doing stuff like Ody, Limbus, Ambu vol.1, CP points, etc.

Also, some of my friends are on Bahamut and Asura and I'm not, so with no ability to transfer over and help them, they're on their own! I just root them on from afar for stuff like their failed DM attempts lol.

It's really not even that hard. Just requires opening a Treasure Chest during your race's week, which is a ~8 hour window that comes up every couple of RL days. A little more complicated than any other coffer hunt due to the time consideration, but it's not that crazy. You don't even have to farm a chest key any more if you don't want to, since those are now sold on the Curio Moogle.

TBH, if having to go hunt a single coffer with the limitation that your race will only be up for about 24 hours in any given RL week (across 3 different 8-hour windows) is gonna be the straw that makes them quit FFXI, this was never the game for them anyway. Like, compare that to getting a single piece of AF gear at level 119, with all of the many upgrade steps along the way. Way easier to endure the slight headache of getting an RSE armor piece and doing an easy Domain Invasion style fight.

Does the new trust upgrade stack with moogle mastery from Ody?

Test:
Amchuchu HP:
• Non-Ody, No-upgrades yet: 1948
• Ody, Moogle Mastery lvl 17, No-upgrades yet: 1982
• Ody, Moogle Mastery lvl 17, VIT + 20 & Max HP 50: 2252

Also of note… they removed the ability to summon trust in Ody lobby for some reason. They also added ‘level ranges’ to Ody content when you select it similar to HTBM.

Is there any sense that the new RSE +1 gear might get augments at some point (unsure if this was alluded to in the stream, didn't watch).

My guess is there'll be at least a second round for the rest of the set, but augments seem like a stretch for shallow, time-limited content like this.

In the stream they referred to the current one as "the first event" a few times, and made a joke about getting in trouble with Yoshi-P if they leaked any more info about future XIV collabs... but they could have just as easily been messing around.

Yeah, I'd expect body and legs will get upgrades too. Might also just come from other events. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Curator Moogle appear again soon, or maybe one of the seasonal events.

Kind of like the Ilm set came from different places. Body from login points, hands/legs from Curator Moogle trading items, and head/feet from the Harvest Festival event.

I also agree that my guess is no more augments. This gear seems to be designed to be easy-ish to acquire stuff for players who don't already have good i119 gear, but better than the outdated baseline ilevel armor like Eminent/sparks gear. Like, a casual solo player who can't get Nyame yet? This is absolutely perfect gear for them to start on harder endgame content. The solid DT/Meva being a really big deal to help them survive better than they would with the other intro-to-endgame kinds of pieces.

What I'd like to see on these, since SE has brought Synergy into the mix, is a tiered evolith-type system that would help players progress through Synergy by obtaining and synergizing ever-stronger evolith through a series of these sorts of battles.
