Yea - Not much is right with current ffxi
Unable to join groups to do events with due to either party spots being filled with Mules, Skill level difference, or being on a ghost town server. Ambu is pretty bland now as it's only Gil for vets. No 18 man content while 6 man content holds the best gear in the game(terrible game design for an MMO). Savage blade everything. Inventory still being a major cockblock in leveling new jobs. No content roadmaps and SE has no intention of discussing this with their player base whatsoever. Don't even get me started with super cool weapons being locked behind a Lottery.
But but we are getting a Leafkin Bed that is the content I've been waiting for !

They have REALLY been up Mandragora's *** lately (the last few years). They made a special shirt (both ingame and a real one to buy, I think). They made a bunch of pots. They added them to Monster Rearing in Mog Garden. They were involved in that recent minigame puzzle thing. There is a furnishing that adds a baby mandragora just to walk around your mog garden like that crab (and sometimes courier crab). Pink mandy outfit. Sunshine Seekers (but that has been around a bit). There is one as part of the trio of monsters in TVR (and their image is on the splash title page of the game before character login).
REALLY up the mandragora's ***.
I guess they were cute in Yutunga Jungle when you would fight them and they would say "Uh oh".

Maybe for a newer MMO, but with a limited playerbase it's really tough to push 18 man content in FFXI anymore. That goes even more for all those servers you refer to as "ghost towns". If it had a significant level of difficulty (like, actual hard content akin to atonement 3 nms) it would be more of a chore than anything else. Most events being 6 man content is fine for FFXI. We still have to organize groups by hand here; there is no duty finder or similar mechanism to get alliance content started. And people run on much tighter schedules than we did years ago. Getting people together shouldn't present as much of a challenge as doing the event itself.

6 man content is TERRIBLE
all of the multi boxers do it by themselves or people make statics with their friends
18 person content is linkshell content, and there is enough leeway where even super noobs/returning players who can't contribute much can still come along and make progress or get items
Do you know how bad it feels to have to tell linkshell mates they can't come along? "Oh just make your own party to do it!" Sure, that works real when when it's only 3 people left who want to come and none of them are well geared enough to fill a specific role that well over anyone else.
18 person content all day every day please. This 6 man ***is for the servers where people shout to do things with random weirdos.

PUG content means content that statics can steamroll on day one, and then no one does pickup once that's figured out. It won't be pickup. For the vast majority of servers and shells, the concept of shouting for people is long gone....unless shouting for buyers.

1-How many people actually use that mechanic? Abusing Mog Amplifier exploit and going back in to finish off a NM at <5% doesnt count.
2-Who cares? Put a warning upon entry that you're entering with an alliance and entry may be restricted on second or third fights in Gaol if job requirements can not be met.
XI's scaling is trash, lets be honest. Unless you have two parties of Naeglings who dont care about skillchains at all, taking extra people just hurts. DD's are forced to spam WS and forego skillchain damage, and foregoing skillchains renders nukers useless. And if you do include skillchains and MB, well you know that wall still exists. Scaling accounts for potential SC damage or MB damage factored in, its presuming everyone is at max potential.
Just do it like Vagary and dont have any scaling. This is the mob, this is its HP, whether you have 6 or 18, this is what you have to fight against.

Just do it like Vagary and dont have any scaling. This is the mob, this is its HP, whether you have 6 or 18, this is what you have to fight against.
Static mobs are fine on direct drop content, where the more you bring, the more you have to split up the rewards. But unless there was an RP penalty for groups above 6, even if you removed the 3 job requirement and potential multiple fights, its too exploitable for this style of reward system.

My group does.
We did Kalunga -> Gogmagog -> U bnai. Killing all. We plan to do some T2 when we cap Gogmagog.

If you can't find 18 people you probably should get off your dead server.
Also when you do stuff with a static it doesn't matter if it is six or 18 people. Getting people organized is still a chore.

If you can't find 18 people you probably should get off your dead server.
Sincerely confused. Its impossible to find 6 people for a static, so just form an 18 man? And if you can't find 18 then its the server's fault?

My point is finding a static to do content is not easy regardless of how many people. Odyssey makes it even worse because you have to have certain jobs. Unlike voidwatch that was welcoming to lots of different jobs.

You guys can say whatever you want. Odyssey Gaol is some of the most fun I have had in a long time in FFXI. Being able to mix and match strategies and get creative with jobs/bosses is somewhat interesting, and it's not as boring of content as many of you are making it out to be. Bumba Savage spam is dumb and broken, but adding extra fights to the mix or just doing different bosses helps it stay interesting. T4 > T3 > T1/T2 clear is a pretty nice run to pull off. Yes, they did mess up big time with the Moogle Amplifier glitch, but that aside, it's kind of fun to an extent.
Too many events in FFXI exclude X job because Y is simply better. Now you have an event that requires you to include those same jobs and people complain "because it's not 18-man content" (It kind of is 18-man content to a degree), if you do 3 bosses (3 jobs each)). I don't know what you guys want SE to do.

Delve scales with HP, but plasm reward was the same, whether you're 3 or 18. Every NM drop was available with plasm.
Vagary does have a secondary output to obtain its loot, albeit random, from turning in the 5 KI's to the sperm.
Geas Fete does scale, yes the loot is shared, however you can get random personal loot (usually stones).
To enter Gaol, you're still bound by the Segments from Sheol. Those could be nerfed depending on alliance size, since a large alliance could spread out and farm multiple sections at once (or more blu's for cruel joke availability).
But you can only get x RP per fight in Gaol, having extra people doesnt give you a bigger net gain. Going with 3pc+3trusts or going with 6pc, you get the same.

People need to get off of meta jobs and play something else for a change. Everybody and their mother has a GEO WAR BRD COR. The problem isn't the content tbh, not in this specific example.

I agree the amplifier glitch is a big screw up, but I've been thinking about when its gone. If something goes wrong in an amped amped fight and you're not gonna win, it might be worthwhile for the group to warp out to avoid losing amplifier bonus. If you don't win you'd get under half rp, and would need to do the whole 10.5k segment cycle to get bonus back.
But, if you warp out, your amplifier and bonus are still intact, and the group can spend just 3k segments to get a fresh ki and go in and kill the desired boss for full points. Of course if you lose again then the gamble didn't pay off, but if your win rates are like 80%+ should be worth it.

VW wasn't welcoming at all if the groups you were able to join already had their <fill in your job>. It was a larger gaming population that was forgiving because your odds were better.
Sure, overall population both drops and those who stick around advance more, resulting in an easier world to build 6-man groups than something larger. I mean look at OG Dynamis- that was built for 64 I believe in the pre-2011 iteration? And groups from that time often brought in 36+ in a linkshell. So as the game shrinks, the dependency on massive events like that diminishes...not to mention in some places does become exceedingly difficult to find that many people on the same real-world schedules.
Its possible to level a job to 99 and master it in a week now. In those olden-days, it took months. Expecting a person to have 3 passably geared jobs is not that big of a requirement any more...and if it is maybe you're just not ready for the most recent content added. There's plenty of other things to do in game for the 2 weeks it might take you to reach that "impossible" barrier.
And if everyone and their momma has GEO, COR, MNK and nothing else....well guess what- SE decided to force upon us variety. Something we've been begging to exist in game so that the meta-party-setup isn't all we use.

Or you could just wait until under 5% and pop your amplifier, if there is any trepidation of a loss. This is what we used to do anyways, before we knew that Moogle Amplifiers worked via glitch.

I would say both of these are true. I have found odyssey to be fun for sure, but it can suck for newer players or people with less jobs geared. Or it can just be hard to fine good groups sometimes or people willing to just go for it.
