At least Abyssea left its super powers in the zone. Got my Oats and all content that is not delve just melts away. Though I wish I could just brew the delve bosses.

You're comparing apple to oranges. You're not me, and you don't know what I want. I know exactly what I want, and Dynasty warriors are not what I want....I mean, I've played it, and previous post mentioned I've played over 100+ titles, probably close to 200 counting none RPGs. I'm not entirely clueless about what kind of experience I get from playing video game.
The point of a game for me, is to experience something I've never experience before, that means more than just "have fun", but something much more complicated than "go home, need some entertainment, turn on my PS3 and play to have fun". I don't "waste time" trying to get such experience, because the time I spend on getting such experience, is more like an investment, and it's pointless to invest in something else like Dynasty warrior.....I can invest 5000 hours of playtime in Dynasty warrior (or insert w/e game title here)but still unable to get the experience I want, in the end I just waste 5000 hours too, because that's just not the experience I want.
You like oranges, fine, but I don't, and it's irrelevant to whether I "wake up" already or not. It's also a pretty bold statement to say you experience 10x more FFXI than me and eventually I'd wake up. Gameplay experience is very personal, some ppl play for 3hr and got it, some ppl play for 300 hour still can't get it. I had lasting/meaningful connection in XI since lv 3, some ppl play until lv 99 still can't get one. I still experience new things everyday, including in XI, just that it's very different from pre-SoA, and how I deal with XI drastically changed since SoA.

I don't think you like apples or oranges, you just enjoy pretending the English language is whatever you decide it to be at that moment in time. Most of your post doesn't even make any sense compared to what he was saying, nevermind many of your posts lately taking one or two things completely out of context and writing paragraphs rambling about some equally out of context nonsense.
Enjoy not wasting your time on constantly doing these mystical new things you find with 0 time wasted on "having fun."

I think that FFXI still has a decent amount of life in it, will it last forever? No, but I think it will be around, if I had to guess, at least 3-5 more years and I think that is a pretty damn good run for an MMO. You would be looking at people who had babies when the game first came out taking their kids out for driving lessons.
Having been playing XIV for a few weeks now I have to say that I am not 100% sure that I would never return to FFXI. I am enjoying XIV very much for various reasons, but I also have moments when I miss certain things about FFXI. I miss Karyn (my Adventuring Fellow who I nearly had maxed out), I miss Puppetmaster and Dancer, I miss sitting in the abysseal paradox and making inappropriate emotes at Prishe for a couple hours here and there.
Ultimately I sucked pretty bad at FFXI, I never got captain rank, made a relic or mythic, and I never even gave SoA a try. I never even got rank 10 in my home nation. I don't think FFXIV will be any easier when it comes to getting some things like that and I will probably end up sucking at FFXIV as well.
What I hope is that FFXI will be around a good while longer so that people who enjoy it can still do so and that people who feel nostalgic or want to pop in for a month during mog bonanza can do so. I recently had a "MMO" I was interested in take their servers down (White Knight Chronicles btw) and even though I wasn't very active I still felt bad, not that I couldn't play, but that the people who I knew still loved the game and playing online wouldn't be able to. If FFXI is what you like to play then I hope that you can continue to do so as long as possible and it doesn't matter if I like you or not, everyone deserves to play what they enjoy.

FFXI would be more enjoyable if there was less time spent doing nothing or being forced to do something we don't want to do as much. It's as simple as that. I compared it to DW which is a full time fun game. While they are completely different games, they are still games and they still share the same purpose in life: fun.
Now, if you say that you enjoy a game where you don't have full time fun, I think the issue lies in your brain, not in FFXI.
I have posted this like a month ago and I'm pretty sure you were around. I'm simply amazed at people who can't evolve and are stuck at the same point in their reasoning/logic month after month. If you were a pokémon, you wouldn't even be picked over a Magikarp, because even them can evolve.

you must have been derping if you wasted that much time in ffxi without doing something you liked or was worth while. There is a big difference between people who want everything done for them and wait for a shout and people who get off their *** and get things done.

my 2 cents on XI's life is...
depends on devs. they can still get 5 years out of the game easy, but they'll need to start/bother working on it again... FFXI can still be a fun game for people and like somebody said, they should advertise it more again (it could attract new younger gamers, even more so in EU where i'm sorry but outside of england and germany not alot of country's even know about this MMO...).
also about FFXIV stealing XI players, that might be true but really... my FC has nothing but people with 1 or 2 50's already, nothing wrong with that i guess? but i think these people will burn out rather fast (I even had a talk with somebody who kept telling me and another girl to get 50 "already", to wich my reply was if i'm gonna play for years to come, i don't feel like i should be maxed out in the first month). people on that game atm are just getting 50 fast as they can to spam a few endgame dungeons, meanwhile i have seen people complain that high levels wont do lower level dungeons anymore (keep in mind FIRST MONTH that it's out lol). so people will burn out verry soon there (since they said they would only release big updates every 3 months)... and find something new to do, hell i have met alot of people who never even touched XI who are currently on XIV, if SE plays their cards right they might get them to play XI...
I haven't touched SoA though it came out at a time i just got sick of XI again and quit... so i can't talk about XI's content at this moment... only thing i do know is that it seems a long time whenever i read about an XI update again (sorry for wall of text)

Why don't you take a few minutes to understand something before posting?
The point is that even if you do stuff and get stuff done, and you are always involved in doing stuff, the game is made in such a way that a big amount of time spent "doing things" is actually a waste that could be shortened or removed.
Example: Salvage should be spammable with adjusted drop rate/content.
This is just a very simple example, the whole argument is much larger.

I can't think of anything in life that I enjoy or value as an experience that is fun or positive ALL the time. You pay for something in this case, something that is virtual and can easily bypass any real life limitation in order to provide you a fun experience at all time with the least frustration possible.
FFXI doesn't try to cut the frustrations (or rather, SE, but that's the same thing) which is the issue this game is giving to players. "Frustrations" can take care of anything wrong with FFXI, I don't really have time right now to explain this for the 20th time in a month.

I generally agree with your "logic" behind the meaning of fun, there's a reason why I'm against 2.5 sec GCD in FFXI. It's behind the same "logic".
What I disagree with is, you make assumptions about what others want and pretend you know what others want/need/have and other's definition of fun(which is something you can't analyze using logic), but in fact you have zero clue.

You can find anything fun, I have never said anything against it. There is just a "why" and "when".
The only issue, once more, is that there are unfun parts here and there in the game. This is bound to happen, we all agree on this. However, FFXI has excessive frustration that could be removed or shortened. That is all. This is why FFXI is so far from a "full time fun" experience, much further than a lot of other games that people are running to, while running away from FFXI.
They are removing frustrations from 2004... in 2013. When will they remove the nowadays frustrations? In 2020?

These posts are silly. Why are people still judging how others want to waste their time? FFXI is full time fun whenever I choose to experience it.
Fun is subjective, that is, we live in a world where the idea of "fun" varies from person to person. All these posts suggesting there's only one way to have fun only exposes a world of egocentrism wherein none of these replies even matter. So I ask, for what purpose are you truly going out of your way to project your justification of "fun" on to others?
Frustration also has varying causes. For example, your idea of SE removing frustrations and thereby "fixing" some aspects of the game. In my humble opinion, SE did nothing but kill the game. See where they did not remove any frustration for me and in fact made it less "fun" for me?
I hate to be the one to say it, but it sounds more like the game would be exponentially more "fun" if SE just capped all your stats and gear - leaving nothing for you to do.

Six stages of FFXI hate building:
Stage one: Oh, next FF is a MMO game, I love FF, I'm gonna play FFXI.
Stage two: Wtf with this game? Getting a pt invite takes 5 hours, making a pt takes 8 hours, lving to 75 takes 8 months, Mythic takes 1 year, and I spent 12 hours of playing to beat *** CoP three paths, checking wiki for quest/map half the time. I log on everyday camping /shout and wait for invite and do nothing.
Stage three: So my friends told me they've been playing WoW and it's super fun, I looked at it and I don't understand what's so fun about it. They just go out and kill stuff and that's it. The art style is ugly as ***, 0 tolerance toward this ugly ***. It's not FF anyways. I'm not playing.
Stage four: So I heard next FF MMO's out, I love FF so I'm gonna play FFXIV.
Stage Five: Omg the game's so fun, I didn't know a MMO can tell everyone where to go on map. I didn't know I don't have to wait for pt invite for 5 hours, I didn't know you can cap job in a week, I didn't know while others in FFXI waiting for a party and /shouting for one doing nothing, I'm spamming AOE in FATE trying to hit a mob...I mean, actually playing the damn game and killing stuff.
Stage Six: Now that I learned that MMORPG can be fun, don't need to check wiki every quest, don't need to /shout and make friends, and I can wait for pt invite while killing stuff. My eyes are opened and learned that I've wasted 10 years of my life playing a ***game with frustration. I must save others from that ***game FFXI and tell them how frustrating it is, to help them wake up and open eyes!

Not sure how'd you "forgot" since you love logic and analyze so much. If your so called "masochists" don't exist, FFXI would shut down already with 0 players left. Since FFXI still exists, it's obvious that "masochists" are there.

im a causal gamer and think everybody else wants a walk through game
probably likes to play fps on consoles as well because it has autoaim.
just because you think its nice that things are easy and wants everything served to you on a silver plated. does not mean we other thinks its good to get it that way.
some wants some easy entertainment others wants a challenge.
in my opinion it sad that ffxi has changed so much to be an easier game cause it lost alot of its niche appeal for ppl that likes challenges.
if just wish ffxvi could be their causual easy mode game and bring ffxi back to are more hardcore trend

I mean this by how long the game will still be up for how long do you all think it'll be on for? Just bored and looking for other people's views and opinions.
I think it'll still be up for at least another year or 2 maybe more, and I think if they advertised this game again like wow always do they'd get more players, maybe even some old ones back too. with it being easier to level now etc.
What do you all think? Thanks!
