Opinions on FFXI's life.
you can't just skip from denial to acceptance, there're like 3 other stages of grief you missed there
Five stages of FFXI.
Denial (Game will never end this game is great) Anger (You guys are *** go to FFXIV already) Bargaining (Maybe if they update RME soon population will increase) Depression(It sucks that after 11 years FFXI is over) Acceptance(I wonder if the FFXIV servers are fixed time to move on) I had a nice response typed up but then I realized this person likely created this thread to get people upset. so not even bothering.
my policy is not to feed stupid. Stage six:
Being a Loser(I'll stick around the FFXI forums after I quit and harass those that still play so I can feel better about my decision on quitting and like I'm cool!) I'm on the depression phase, myself.
Theres plenty of things that still need to happen before anyone can say FFXI is really dying.
The next set of server merges should come soon enough. Eventually it'll come to the point where there's one universal server for this game. I'd say that's about 2-3 years away still. Around that time is when SE will stop producing new content for this game. Another thing I can see happening is reduced monthly fees or making FFXI Free to Play. After that? who knows. I think FFXI will still be around in one shape or form, wether it be offline or Squeenix gives people the option to host their own private servers. Only one thing needs to happen before FFXI dies.
We need to see Ultima. Sieha1 said: » my policy is not to feed stupid. Must be a new policy, since the human body can only live for a few weeks without food. oh man too many good replies to reply to.
the game isnt dead, SE just screwed it up with these 18 man fights. it was booming when 3-6 people could do must anything because even casuals wanted to play. anyways stupid is people who make threads for entertainment of getting people upset about the topic. However if that didnt happen on these forums, then I could be shocked. Bismarck.Ihina said: » Only one thing needs to happen before FFXI dies. We need to see Ultima. Ultima is only acceptable if it looks like it does in FF6, or maybe tactics.

I can understand why you may be exhausted by threads like this, but for how old FFXI is, the design problems facing, perhaps even dooming it at this stage of its existence, and the directly competing FFXIV, can you honestly say this subject is inappropriate? Usually when people are defensive against a subject, they're more committed to denial than the subject at hand. fonewear said: » Five stages of FFXI. Casuals *sigh* There's content for casuals (skirmish), and then content that isn't (read as wasn't now) piss easy. fonewear said: » Five stages of FFXI. But if it isn't done properly, expect even faster playerbase decline. I know I will quit if SE *** up again, so does a lot of friend of mine. Not interested in paying 12 a month to grind 300D weapons so I can grind 400D weapon 3months later. I bet ff14 dies before ff11 lol. At least 11 has established player base, 14 will lose 1/2 its pop next month then more the 2nd. Hard for new mmo's to retain players.
As for the 5th stage, I don't think people will go play 14 if 11 dies, I know I won't be. I'll be playing free to play games instead, no more paying subs for me. Prob go to EQnext since I know the lead game designer. I'm trying to realistically envision something like a dagger better than an Izhiikoh w/o giving it "Additional effect: transcendency." We'll probably get a back piece or something for completing the story line tho. macsdf1 said: » I bet ff14 dies before ff11 lol. New Mmo can't keep players only happen in NA Asia Korea, due to competition. Competition on console market and jp market wasn't as bad, this game won't be swtor2. What new mmo has kept players? Especially subscription based ones.
I wish REM update would bring plp back. I am coming back for 2 reasons. 1, one of my best friends is coming back. 2, I miss some plp. I have heard plenty of good things about SOA also. And Mac, I will be sending you or Kei a tell next week.
Keeping subs requires content. But it isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle and the makers would do well to pay attention to to the player base as well as the psychology behind MMO's and especially MMORPG's.
For XI, it has plenty of content, they just stupidly outdated most of it without replacing the tasks that kept people busy. But it isn't just busy work and grinding that is important. Players need to feel like these grinds are an investment that is worth their time and outdating things every month is not doing that. It won't be hard to recover, but it will require them to push out some stable content that can't be done super fast like Skirmish. I feel REM will bring some back but they have already said they don't plan to keep them top tier so I think once they outdate them again, we will be right back where we started for those who only come back for REM's. With some of the recent changes, I have to ask if they even have a plan. I'd prefer they did because XIV doesn't have blue mage yet... It's an old game and needs a lot of fixing now but it's a game I don't want to give up. For XIV, it's a new game but it's interesting. So it may keep some attention while it works on developing more content. Time will tell but it's looking excellent so far. Yoshi-p is the type who I feel will listen and make better decisions. I hope Matsui learns something from him. Anyway, I have hope that they will be able to strike a balance between the games. They are different enough that I think we'll have patrons of each and both even. I was just reacting to the "so I can feel better" part -- besides, it's not like the guy is actually playing the game. No, I understood. You were just reaching to take a dig at someone else. Like I said, out of order and irrelevant.
pretty much all games are fun when you are a noob and leveling and exploring. Eventually you will hit max level, and guess what, you will cap out on stuff too do, just like how you get bored in ff11. One by one your friends will quit, if you made any that is,
14 is currently free if you bought it before, so why not try it. I would too if I had bought it, but I didn't. Don't think i'll ever buy a mmo again, only free to play and free to d/l from now on. Can always play both anyways. Where do I d/l the latest postcount bot/sell posts on the black market? I don't want to feel left out :( |
