SE doesn't want to save us time... Look at these new Wildskeepers. Just spent 4 hours in Foret last night. The longer they make us wait, the more money they make from us. Time spent waiting = time we're not getting closer to being done with this game.

Looks like I'm not the only one that caught on to their little time-sink ***.

I wouldn't mind an additional 5 second loading time if I had 10 or 20 more inventory spaces. They keep trying to blame it on the players finding it unfavorable, which I don't understand really. Where are all these people who disagree with longer loading times?

Moogle Slips and Storage NPCs aren't saving me time, it takes a great deal more to go through their prompts and organize items than it does to zone a few dozen times in one day.

Moogle slips would be a lot more convenient if the menus didn't display only 3 items at a time. I really don't get what their obsession with small item menu displays are. Atma, dominion, storage,M slips all have such small displays making it a pain trying find what you are looking for. There is just no reason they need be so small..

I do agree with you, Draylo. We have come a long way from then, but so has our inventory already. All I am saying is, even if we get the 20 extra inventory (which I want as much as you do), we will be back on the forums asking for more/different fix in the very near future.

100. make it a round and nice number.

If they just gave furniture its own seperate invo would help a lot also instead having it use mh space to make storage space. Would also let people actually decorate there mh as much as they want.

Asura.Chexmix said: »
If they made an RME slip that would save some people invo too.

Knowing them it would only be for lev 99 weapons where 90% the people wouldn't be able to use.

Well KIs can stored a very limited amount of data I remember them explaining what the af storage KIs did when they were adding slips. I think the npc kept the set data and alocated a number which gets stored on the KI. When you turn it back in the npc finds your set number then gives you back the whole set rather than 1 piece. I bet the data size for the af pieces is a lot smaller than what current gear is.

I'm sure that SE will find a way to do something. Some of the more recent changes that they have made (/yell, party invite across regions, opening up mog storage from rent-a-rooms to name a few) have suggested that although they had limits on what they could do in the past, they are finding ways to make it happen.

or that socalled limits are BS since its software you can pretty much do anything you want to, if you put in the work for it.

the slips use the same storage space used for all the other stuff like augs, item levels and such.

slips atm only work like a series of flags, each related to a specific item (with predefined additional data if they want, like af+2 augs), so you do not/do have it. it's the same reason you cannot have a slip for slips :p since it would only remember that you have them but not what they contain.

most of them are only half full, so they could add more items if they wanted to recategorize them.

with delve equip it's even more an issue since they have multiple paths with multiple levels and they could only make predefined paths/levels storable.

Again, like I said before, for a company that is *** larger than CCP Games, Square-Enix really does not know or does not want to spend the money it has to reprogram this game.
This game has made them more money than any other title, so it's easy to see why they don't care about putting a whole lot of money into it as long as it stays alive.

People will argue, "Well, if it is making them so much money, then why not upgrade the system and bring people back for another ten years?". I don't think that would work, people already know about XI, and some won't come back because of it, while others simply won't try another SE game again sometimes. A new title has a chance to bring more people in, so I think it's less of a risk to make a new game.

SE wasn't smart with XIV, that's why it didn't do well. They have to make it work this time, and even though they are putting the effort into it people still will laugh at it and not even give it a chance, understandably. Not everyone is willing to try a game that has basically failed before, and had to be remade over again.

That's just my guess anyways, I don't know anything about this stuff.

Then, that says a lot about the company and how they treat their own products and their own customers. It just shows SE simply doesn't care. CCP Games, regardless of some controversies the company has had, has listened to the community far better than Square-Enix has done. And, CCP makes every effort to involve players in nearly anything that is implemented in the game. They give it back to those players at EVE Fanfest as a thank you. I see little to none of that from SE who earn more money than CCP Games does in one fiscal year in revenue. (Losses from last fiscal quarter non-withstanding...)

Community forums and representatives are not a good indication that the company is listening to its customers nor facing the problems FFXI has had in the past several years.

Whatever they implement as increased storage will be welcoming, even to me. However, it looks like all we'll get in this game are side-grade fixes instead of full-on upgrades or complete changes. A lot of the storage issues can be fixed simply by dropping support for older hardware. Increased memory footprint of better hardware like the 360, PS3 or PC beyond the 32MB limitation of the PS2, and no more 56k connection support, will completely address the issue of limited inventory space and increased load times of accessing inventory. And, it will also fix the issue mentioned by another FFXI developer a few months ago regarding the fact everything has to be loaded into memory if they were to implement another satchel or Gobbiebag.

Other MMO games even small ones from much smaller companies do not have this issue in regards to inventory. Even World of Warcraft and Blizzard Activision does not have an issue as bad as FFXI has. Then, again, FFXI is the first MMO to be made for a console, and the first MMO to make gear swapping a requirement in order to play the game better. But, that's the problem of making a game on a fixed hardware with no room or option of expansion. It is great to see FFXIV ARR come to PS4 and it should not be holding back current PC hardware as majority of the games on the market do not utilize 8GB of RAM. And, the gaming market is no longer tied down to 56k connections. Most of everyone gaming online today are on broadband connection of some kind-- cable, DSL, or even 3G/4G mobile broadband.

Again, this will be a side-grade and nothing more than temporary fixes until the next expansion is released or if it is released, and new gear replaces, supplants current ones. I've done the best I can to keep full sets of gear on 8 different jobs. I cannot fathom the thought of someone with full sets of gear for each and every job available seeing that each job has different sets of gear for different situations.

they should have amde the af relic emp slips categorized by job instead
cause when you wanna gear, you gear for a job not a gear level. this would save alot of slips trading. this is one of the reason i don't fully utilize slips as i dont wan't to trade in storage slips 8 just to get a single war ammo slot item.
i get this will results in more slips thought but i can really live with that.

Hmmm.... more inventory might actually stroke my interest enough to come back. Job changing was a awful ordeal when I left.

Mog house, swap ~6 items at a time from inventory to safe and inventory to locker then grab slips and head to the porter moogle.

Exchange gear into slips, then from slips into inventory. Pausing of course near the end to put slips back into storage as I approach 80/80.

Sometimes it could take 15 minutes if I wasn't paying close attention. Then add sometimes 3 changes a night as events rolled on.

Pain in the butt!

This is how inventory management has always been with Final Fantasy, they made it clear in FFI >.>

But seriously, I wish the moogle storage slips had been based on job rather than equipment set. Trade 1 slip, get all gear I need for the job I'm on rather than trading 5 slips (back when this was more relevant).

What a mess.

But yeah, like Aselin said, the main problem with ffxi is that developers are stil... Supporting old hardware (ps2), it seems that the majority of jp subs uses ps2 for ffxi. That's why they don't want to move forward but putting HQ fonts options for the pc/xbaws version.

someone mentioned long time ago that the ps2 modem is 28k .. not 56. must be a pain to download updates with that, All countries should ban dial up connections.

Was just talking about this the other day. Def stick with making new bags and inventory or increase in size either one is better then storage npcs.. Last update on inventory was with the security tokens and that was a while ago and alot of new items since then so it will help if follow through with this.

PS3 has 256MB

That I know.

And, the 360 is using 512MB shared between GPU and system.

But, it's a whole lot better than the measly 32MB of the PS2. Dropping PS2 support and 56k connection support would probably have netted us maybe twice to four times the storage and inventory space we currently have.

And, when I mentioned FFXIV on the PS4, that means we should not run into the same issues in regards to inventory space that FFXI has had when it was released for the PS2 and other platforms. The larger memory footprint and the fact most gamers today are on broadband connections should mean we will not run into these same issues.

Someone mentioned above about software and that there probably aren't limitations except what SE leads us to believe there is. However, there is only so much you can do with 32MB of RAM and 56k connections before you realize that it's time to move on. FFXI has grown a lot since 2002 in terms of items, armors and weapons, and instead of trying to find side-grades/temporary fixes to accommodate lower-end hardware, do an actual complete overhaul of the code itself to accommodate the better hardware of the PS3 or 360 or even the PC itself. Heck, make the 360 the lowest common denominator. I'm sure that console will have another 5 years of life in itself, but it'll be a whole lot better than using the PS2 as the base for everything they have to implement in this game.

I'm okay with them leaving the inv at 80 so long as they start making gear that is multipurpose and replaces several old pieces. It's annoying when you get a new item but can't replace it entirely due to some stat or enhancement on it.

They put themselves in to this situation by adding so much gear that only has one purpose and so I have to carry 10 rings and 12 earrings and 6 pairs of boots. I have a difficult time sacrificing performance for space.

Otherwise? 90+ would be awesome.

640kb is enough for everyone.

just because something seems large now doest not means it small in the future.
i will say the facts that they did roll it out on a locked platform will gives us the exactly same issues later on.
back then ps2 was a strong machine. now its a bottleneck cause it can't be expanded.
the same will come with ps4 if the game lives as long as ffxi.

i can agree to this but then agian you have to realise
only a certain part of the game runs locally.

so storage capacity of non active gear can easily be done server sided where there is no 32mb limit.

beside the facts that just because on client base is limited to 32mb does not mean other client base can utilize a bigger memory as long as it does not affect the common mechanics.
something like graphics are close to 100% client based and does not affect the core game mechanics so it can be individualized for different platforms.

a lot of the so called limits ppl keep mentioning are not actual hard limits

If you had the KI, you could exchange it for all 5 pieces of AF gear. It was as simple as that.

As they said this would require the development of a new item storage system:

I wish what they'd do is create a special MH box that's server side and open up the Safe/Locker for use in the field. To navagate the mog box you'd have that loading time delay like with the delivery box / AH since it has to look server side for the item list, but I'm ok with that.

...Really, there should not be a reason you couldnt access it from the field either, you'd just have that ugly AH style delay when pulling it up.
