This is for all the greatsord hipsters out there.

I was reminiscing the other day on my DRK during the 75 cap, and thinking about how everyone loves greatsword nowadays because of resolution. I was always drawn to greatsword, but used to be in the minority back when scythe and guillotine were the go-to combo.

I remember how proud I was of my subduer:



The time I took to unlock that latent, and then the time I took to unlock ground strike to boot. Though this was a good weapon /war, I always wanted this for /sam:



Never got lucky with a drop, or winning lot though...

Any other greatsword hipsters out there who would let off spinning slashes and ground strikes, without regards to convention?

I only ever used GS on DRK in sky and JoL I think(and occational merit-pt just for fun), but I always did love spinning slash and ground strike.
I still use them now and then, just for fun. :P

I remember Martial sword being a pretty cool Ground strike weapon for WAR, but not as cool as Nag was for DRK.

My first spinning slash with Algol was for 1,337 damage :( I thought I was cool.


Also exping to 75 greatsword was actually a requirement on drk to make light on Catobrepas in Bibiki bay :> lolthfsub

I have a friend who uses this to RWS stagger KI NMs in abyssea, and I'm always surprised by the frequency of the terror procrate.

still love my algol, but back then can't 6 hit it so was using Naglering for the longest time. I used to parse a ton in Einherjar T3 (back then the "big" team event), and never really lost to any scythe user including Apoc. I am super aggressive tho so that have something to do with it. Fire proc on algol was lethal...

Perdue scythe was the ugliest scythe of all time, which was why I used GS instead...

Anyone else remember endgame stuff like DI, Cerb ect. where if you were lucky enough to go drk/thf with algol the tiny % you'd see one of those wonderful 4k+ 300TP SATA Ground Strikes with a triple atk proc?

I used GS on war drk pld in the dunes.....

I also did the secondary drk kill quest for chaosbringer.

I also owned Arondight and Ascalon (roommate smn kite to get like one of two on the server).

omg i was like.... I WILL MAKE A RAGNAROK ONE DAY when i first started. I made Calad because at the time it was more attainable.

I always loved greatswords. I remember skilling up to cap on pld with mercurial sword, then unlocking ground strike. One of my favorite things to do was go PLD/WAR to events and open up a fight with a 300 TP ground strike, then swap to sword and shield and tank on.

Skilling on pld to cap made playing with GS on drk so much easier, since it let me focus on skilling scythe while leveling

Before FFXI was officially released I remember hearing that DRK's main weapon would be a Scythe--I was so turned off to DRK. Not that Scythes aren't badass and cool but they're awkward and exotic weapons, especially in the Final Fantasy lore/universe where Dark Knights generally use either 2handed swords or 'dark swords' as their main weapons...

I loved my Naglering for town gear but I pretty much never touched it outside town because Perdu Sickle + Guillotine.

I were dreaming of Ragnarok back when it was concidered LOL aswell.
It just looked so damn cool...
When a friend of mine got his (good while before Reso came out, but at 95 cap or something, was still the first time I actually saw one myself ingame) I nostalgiad sooo bad.. And got jelly as ***. :p

Never unlocked my Subduer, which I got around 80 cap anyway. Never really used my Algol. What I really wanted was Naglering though, and still want it as part of my collection.

I think I threw my Algol out actually, but that's a lot easier to get again anyway.
