July 23, 2012 Version Update
Even so, outside Abyssea, Magian staves should stomp all over the Prism Staff.
Yes, as I mentioned. Any time you have less than 40 preexisting affinity (atma) magians are superior. In the event of a double weather + day scenario it's possible that you won't get any effect from Iridescence whatsoever if the effect doesn't go passed the cap.
staves on auction house on phoenix:
Vulcan's: 14 Aquilo's: 49 Auster's: 48 Terra's: 31 Jupiter's 40 Neptune's 10 saw up to 70 earlier today and just as many NQ. Beads going for 100k+ as well. Mayhem i say!! Question. This 10% bonus with weather, assuming it procs, would apply to Cures also? So wouldn't that be...
(assuming light weather only) Obi: 10% Cure Pot Twilight Cape: +5% cure pot Chatoyant Staff: 10% Cure pot Then toss in the 10% bonus with weather that'd be 35% Cure potency, yeah? Or am I doing this wrong. Still confused about this... do they mean they'll be adding it in the future?:
Quote: [dev1129] The maximum number of upgrades for the attribute merit point category has been raised from twelve to twenty-four. No, it was added this update
It's already in place, you can merit 2 attributes up to 12. In total 24 points.
AHHH kk, I misunderstood and thought they were raising the caps to 24 lol

Or am I doing this wrong. The 10% listed on the staff would be counted along with gear, and then the weather effects come in at the end, so say you cure for 1000 without any gear, with Obi+Cape+Staff you would cure for 1000*1.1*1.25=1375, a 37.5% increase overall. Fighting mandies in Aby-Misa right now. Averaging 1 skill level of parrying per minute as BLU/NIN. Thinking about switching to NIN/DNC tho...

Dude, so 40 affinity translates to .4 in the calculations? In your example there is .6 atma affinity in the elemental staff calc, so is that 60 affinity? And that comes from Beyond (30) and Undying (20)? Also, obviously you can only get weather in Abyssea /SCH and since you can't Thunderstorm yourself you don't get any weather bonus at all for Thunder spells in Abyssea? There are people like me (admittedly) who are either too lazy, or will not prioritize the inventory for each elemental staff. I'm not saying that it's optimal but at LEAST this staff should make a good portion of the playerbase who wasn't buying/making any staves before, consider at least this one now. All I know is that people can't make the inventory excuse for carrying that terrible scythe. People who try to justify Meleficus because it saves inventory.
I know I'm going to lllove this new staff and the extra inventory that comes with it.
Siren.Thoraeon said: » People who try to justify Meleficus because it saves inventory. Oh rofl.... I thought you were taking a shot at apoc and i was liek ZOMG WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU T.T Well as of this update, I've lost faith in the intelligence of most of my server. Ballad went from 400k to 40k in 1 sale, and elemental beads/ores shot up to like 90-100k each then shot right back down to 20k (just as i spent about 130k gil on 3 ores trying to profit)
Step 1.) Thunder, Ice Magian Staves
Step 1.5) (Optional) If you're feeling cheeky, Dark Magian Staff for Drains/Aspirs Step 2.) Chatoyant Staff for everything else Step 3.) Continue pretending that slight increases in nuking DPS matter* outside of a very few niche activities. *matter is a very strong word. Don't forget cure staff, no excuse not to have that if you are on a mage job.

Actually some like sch can cap potency with the prism staff thing, and that makes it better than Arka. Was specifically referring to damage staves, I should have specified. I didn't really consider Arka IV and Apollo's Staff to be competing for inventory slots, since most (many? some?) people keep Apollo's around for other purposes.
Throw in the stun staff in there if you feel like it, probably the next best thing.
I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet or not but......since Chatoyant Staff is lvl51 are we able to augment it using the FoV augmentation system?

SCH requires HQ Legion Hexed gear to cap potency with Chatoyant so this isn't really a viable thing to think about; however, if you can get 38% or greater cure potency using Chatoyant and Auroastorm, it surpasses Arka IV. That's what I meant. And 38 with that staff isn't THAT difficult. Reminds me I need to do some Bismark lol I didn't mean to insinuate that 38% was difficult to attain; it was just a statement of fact!
