prob assault or LMG guys BF3 isnt BO you can switch to single shot and rape snipers with assault rifles and LMGs.

Also when you have a Scope of almost any kind on a sniper rifle your lens flares and gives away your position making most ppl switch to single shot and kill the hell out of you. protip is to look for targets with your pistol out and switch to the sniper to spot and kill.

Snipers have always been easily killable in every FPS...

yes killing snipers in those 2 games was not a problem, at all.

Sniping in CoD4 and MW2 is still a huge disadvantage. The reason you get killed by so many is that all of the good players use sniper rifles, as a means of handicapping themselves to have more fun.

and thats why i love BF3... as someone has said previously it has a certain type of realism in which you just cant jump on and start to rambo your opponents, run and gun. you have to actually think take your time watch your corners watch your backs and try to at least stay with one other team mate. im a CoD fanboy i love CoD and this is my first battle field title i have ever played (i wanted to see what the hype was about) and playing this game has really switched my tactics on how im used to playing on CoD, and im nice in CoD usually have a 6:2 kill death ratio playing BF opened my eyes seriously to running in situations... (i think it may be the fact that BF maps are very wide range and alot of hiding spots and places to go where people can pick you off from windows/rooftops ectect. When playing CoD the maps are small enough that im actually thinking about where my opponents will run or go to try to escape thus why I may have been so successful playing CoD… but you really have to play attention to detail in BF

Exactly. I don't see BF or CoD being better or worse than each other. They're essentially two different kinds of FPSs.

Bloodthirsty hero? CoD
Teamwork? BF

It's tough being a bloodthirsty hero in a BF game (doesn't matter in most cases as most gametypes are objective based) and you won't ever see teamwork in CoD sadly.

I remember in BF2 if you played as sniper, it took a bit of skill and a lot of dying. You actually had to find a good sniper perch and set out claymores if you didn't want to get knifed in the back.

on top of that, got to worry about counter snipers and if you fire too many times, someone's bound to notice where you're shooting from. its all about patience and precision with a sniper on BF

I think what Volkom means is you can't find one nice spot and stay in it because people become wise. You constantly have to be on the move for a new vantage point. Some new crevice in a rock face or else you'll just go down like nothing. Albeit yeah you can get a Semi auto with a red dot and manage a couple kills but it's not nearly as effective as an assault rifle or a carbine IMO.

Edit: I should say I saw a fair bit of the run and gun sniper in beta...they usually did terribad. Have only seen a couple since the actual launch and they too did terribad.

I have found my playstyle..

Combat Medic (Assault with Medkit and Defib) with a Shotgun and extra ammo. Destroying people. (And keeping others alive!)

On longer range maps I use the M416. Soon to have the M16A4. I want a better shotgun though.

It's a blast diving out into the middle of a firefight to revive someone then scurry back into cover. Anything within 30 yards gets blast in the face. So good for QQC.

Longer maps I have to go sniper it's just always my style....but the second we get on operation metro, seine crossing or bazaar it's all about that engi class!

Speaking of Seine Crossing, I've only played it once so far but I'm looking at it as possibly the best map I've played in a BF game. That Rush point on the bridge makes for some awesome gunfights.

I tried so hard to like recon. It got so much better when I got the bipod, just most the maps are ill-suited for it. If you can get someone to watch your back it's great. If you're on your own most the time you find a knife in your back.

I've been playing on a 64player Large Conquest server. There's -always- someone around to knife you in the back. Kharg Island is amazing for sniper play though. A couple hours ago a recon on the opposing team knifed me and took my spot.. so I made my way back there and knifed him.. took it back. then spent the rest of the map counter-sniping him while my objective area was clear.

I personally think if you use a semi-auto sniper you may as well grab an assualt rifle with a scope. Bolt action one-shot kills are the way to go if you wanna snipe like a boss. :3

the whole point of the semi auto sniper is to shoot at multiple targets and get kills with less reloads. Sure you can have that single hard killing sniper. But if you can get multiple headshots with less reloads. that gives you more time to scan for targets/less time for you to reacquire your targets

Just gotta unlock my SV98 unfortunately I'm playing PC and xbox so time is split and havent gotten it for either yet :/

Yeah taht doesn't work with the SVD or the crappy mk 110 because the recoil and short breath timer.
You're better off getting the bolt action with the size of those maps. There are no Mid range maps. Only short and far so its either bolt action or carbine/AR IMO. May just be my play style.

yeah, once they come out with some mid range maps, thats where those guns will shine

I miss my SV98 =/ I haven't really done much Recon yet, mostly been sticking with Engineer.. At the end of BETA I had something like 250 kills/210 headshots with the SV98.. I got to know the weapon really well and how it handled, how far the bullet dropped, etc. Now I all I have is the SKS for sniping and I cannot for the life of me kill a single person with it.

Think today I'm going to focus on getting my SV98 back.

I've had a bit of trouble getting used to using semi-auto rifles for sniping. I'm so used to bolt action. Gotta say that i'm having a blast playing regardless.

Unfortunately my trip to LA left me quite broke for the time being; so aside from keeping FFXI active and leaving just enough for Skyrim on it's release, I'll likely wait til multiplayer fads and bugs get patched up before making my purchase on BF3. However, the single player campaign alone makes it look worth having.

Edit: Now there's a rumor that the CD release of the Zelda Symphony will come included in pre-orders for Skyward Sword. Anyone able to confirm or dismiss this? >.>

What I would love to see happen is that if you dont have a mic in you cannot play online. I really hate when the other team wins because no1 has a mic but me. I know xbox gives u a headset with the system. Also back to BF3 it also ticks me off when im around the cnr and i get killed with 1 shot from a sniper and its no way possible way to kill me. Im almost given up on ea and their crappy games that allow people to cheat.
