Sorry Bart! Asura.Bartimaeus said: np. I forget sometimes because I use other forums where they share this kind of stuff, but I'd rather not be the one to get people in trouble, so thanks for checkin me. lol Also TEE!!!! Why oh why would you play FFXII!? You play FFXI! Pretty much the same thing, except that you have a princess with a skirt, bunny girl and sky pirate james bond! ...on a more serious note, I seriously love Fran's voice. She makes stuff like "I'm a viera" sounds sexy as hell haha. Asura.Ashleh

if X-2 counts as canon then so does Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children. So my opinion is no, all of that is not.
Why are they not canon?
It is.... its a direct sequel. Those weren't FF7-2 were they?
I can consider the main plot / best ending canon, but the method of getting there, the theme of the game much like Charlie's Angels, silly as ***. If that didn't happen, it'd be credible and welcome.
Someone asked earlier about the connection between VII and X. This is based on the character Shinra in X, who is not only named after the company (which is odd given that it's not one of FF's recurring characters like Sarah or Cid), but at one point he mentions developing technology that can harness energy from the earth. I forget its context or relevance in X itself, but at any rate, I think there was a subtly agreed upon idea that Spira predates FFVII's universe. It's difficult to tell whether the Shinra thing is a reference or a foreshadowing though.
if it's foreshadowing wouldn't it be a reference? 'cause nothing happens in the X canon involving energy sucking, and there isn't any mention of the planet having a life force like in VII either. Or am I misunderstanding?
Nah, I'm probably being really ambiguous. What I mean is that it's difficult from one line to work out whether they are including the Shinra thing as a reference to FF7 (as people who played the game before would notice from the name), or to show that Spira => FF7's world.
I find it difficult to accept the latter because there's basically no other correlation between the two worlds. wintermute0 said: discuss. But, he is unable to complete the system for utilizing this energy in his generation, and in the future, when traveling to distant planets becomes possible, the Shinra Company is founded on another world. What's the source on that O_o
EDIT: Especially since if that were the case, why is the Shin-Ra Company in FF7 so fixated on putting a single rocket into space (and it being a great achievement when they do so)? Never heard that before. Interesting >_>

I find it difficult to accept the latter because there's basically no other correlation between the two worlds. It's foreshadowing, there was an interview with an SE guy about it... "In interviews published in the Final Fantasy X Ultimania Ω and Final Fantasy X-2 Ultimania guidebooks, scenario writer Kazushige Nojima and producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X-2 share a plot-related connection, in which the Shin-ra corporation in Final Fantasy VII is founded on another planet after about one thousand years, after space travel became possible, by descendants of Shinra of the Gullwings in Final Fantasy X-2. This connection was conceived of only after Final Fantasy X was already finished and realized in Final Fantasy X-2 riding on the success of the original game. Thus, this plot element is not reflected in the gameplay or storylines of Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy X." Asura.Sandolphon

FFX began with the destruction of an entire civilization...X-2 started off with a god damn pop concert. That ***is NOT canon, idgaf what Yoshimutsu Mitsuyoshi says.
That is a direct quote from Kazushige Nojima, who was a main scenario writer for numerous FF games. My bf and I were having discussions about that topic and we went and researched it.
Interesting, though it's an incredibly weak correlation. Would've been better without really... the technology level in FF7 is such that putting a single rocket in space is a BIG DEAL and they're stating that the original creator just travelled through space? And somehow didn't keep this technology?
