I don't think I would even think about sleep at a time like that. I would try my best to find something to defend myself with, preferably a gun or something to hit them from ranged like a pole or something. Steer clear of small areas and be fast and get to someplace safe.

Until you resurface for supplies, get them and then one of the people with you hides the fact he was infected!!

My idea of a safe place to stay? Something high up of some sorts. So maybe higher up in a building with the stairs knocked out. On some kind of ledge or top of some mountain that requires climbing or jumping or something. Or perhaps up in something like rafters or the metalwork of a bridge.

then climb up and pull the ladder up and make a shelter up top

I really just want to live in the support structure of a bridge... unless I can fortify my home good enough... but it's got alot of possibly entrances and big windows. And although the front part the bottom floor is underground and in back the top floor is in the air... still leaves a good 8 or so niced sized acessible windows (*** kitchen/dining area) I just want to stay in home cause lots of space to store stuff. Would have running water for awhile probably. Can keep stuff kinda cold by just keeping it downstairs. Gas might stay on for a bit so might still have heat. Fire place to cook or something.

Use a rope :). Don't think I've seen one climb one of those lol. And can just pull it up... maybe with stuff tied to it to make getting suppplies up there easier.
