Alright, so im having this argument with this dude on which weapon is better if there would be a zombie apocalypse. I think a crowbar would be best since it doesn't run out of ammo, but he says a rifle would be better. So I'm asking you guys... Which weapon do you think is best? Or better yet, which weapon would you use if there was a zombie hoard coming at you.

It depends, are we talking about fast zombies or slow zombies?

Hoard already coming at you, pick up a gun..

Otherwise they make too much noise and will attract more zombies..

But yeah, if there's like some huge hoard coming after you, you might as well pick up a gun and start unloading.. Just make sure to save a bullet for yourself.

I wouldn't pick a crowbar for melee though.. An axe would be good, but you'd get tired of swinging it after a while.. So pick up like a katana or some other sword that is relatively small and light and is extremely sharp. Aim for the neck.

Situational. Crowbar > Baseball all the time though.

A crowbar has functionality in killing and real world applications. A WWII trench knife would be a better melee weapon in case of zombies, but good luck getting a functioning replica.

Never use guns unless completely necessary.

The problem with a Katana or Axe (or any bladed weapon for that matter) Is that it'll dull fairly quickly. That's why a stabbing or blunt weapon tends to be better.

But with blunt you'll have to make multiple swings before the zombie is dead, fine for one on one, but when you got 5+ coming at you, you need to be able to dispatch them quickly so you can move onto the next one.

<_< Sure it'll kill them eventually, but they're not just going to stop the second they're on fire, all it takes is for one to grab you and take you down and now you have a flaming zombie trying to bite your face off, then your clothes catch fire as well.

That's the beauty of a crowbar, the added hook and sharp ends make it have multiple functionality in a situation like that.

Plus if the zombie survival guide is a basis on fact then severed zombie heads can still bite and infect so decapitation isn't the preferred method of execution.

I would have to go with a shotgun then.

If you're facing like 100+ zombie though, AK-47 maybe.

Depends on how heavy it is really. A sledgehammer is an example of a bad melee weapon due to how hard it is to use.

Think a metal baseball bat would be more functional than a crowbar. I've swung a crowbar and a bat, and i think a bat would be more effective for a 2nd swing. A crowbar is uncomfortable to hit things with, and gives you a vibration with it connects.

This guide says to use fire:

Just stay away from the head <.< See the way I'm picturing this is you get trapped a tight alley with like 5-10 zombies coming at you from both ways.. You have to dispatch them quickly or you'll be overwhelmed, they don't necessarily need to be dead, just unable to actively keep pursuing you. Cut the head off, the body drops, you can then deal with the next one.

A shotgun is preferable if you're going through buildings or anywhere where a lot could be on you fast. If not a high powered rifle like a carbine with a Bayonet attachment or an AK47 with a heavy stock is the best.

But really, unless there are like 50 all coming for you and close, using a gun is a silly idea.

A crowbar can stab&scramble, Open doors and lever things.

A baseball bat (especially aluminium) will break relatively fast when smashing skulls.
