I'd recommend Cloze Notes. That way, they have to pay attention, and at the end, instead of collecting the notes, have the students hold onto them for their own reference. Also, make sure they're familiar with Purdue Owl's wealth of information, and... well, if you want to do a little shortcut, have them use the son of citation machine.
I've realized their main problem (aside from the citing google) is they use easybib... poorly. They type in the website or book title and just copy and paste whatever they get without questioning why this funky website is asking for a publisher or city! Crazy.

But yea, perdue owl they will be learning of. And they are getting a paper assignment (that I was already going to give) that will now have a large grade focus on citations.
