get a hat with a list of literary genres (horror, sci fi, classic, fan fiction, tall tale, fantasy, erotica, mystery etc etc...). Each student picks one item. the following day they have to say what material/book they're writing about.

have them do a report and write their own short story based on that particular genre. tell them its like 10% of their final grade.

just grade it on completion, but then share with us any crazy/dirty/awesome stories you've found.
