what he said, the only things that affect it are armors/atma that specifically notes it affect it, including obi, then dark magic skill, then magic accuracy. INT, and MATK bonus have no effect.

Int effects the macc of it. Also dark skill only adds potency up to 300 skill after that only macc

It is still true ? They updated caps to break the 300 skill few update ago, without add details (like in enhancing skill which was capped at 300 and which is now uncap).

Oh I know. And they even said dark magic. But Bio was the obvious ones lol. And Aspir II was never tested in the first place I think. But until I see new testing on it and 300+ I'll go with potency>skill.

No, MAB does not affect drain damage.

Dark magic skill affects the potency of Drain/Drain2, and Aspir/Aspir2. (also stuff such as anrin obi weather bonuses, and items such as hirudinea earring and excelsis ring are also affecting factors though. Also, Pluto's staff with its hidden effect, and other similar items affect Drain/aspir potency.)

Bahamut.Dasva said:

^ That is no longer true.

That was changed by SE in the September 2010 update.

There is no 300 dark skill "cap" , for Drain/aspir potency, anymore. Therefore, adding more dark magic skill past the 300 skill, will still give you more potency now.

If you're looking for testing, Robonosto did testing on Drain and Aspir a while back, after the September 2010 update.

http://robonosto.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Although it's also not hard to replicate similar results yourself. You can find that dark magic skill will now increase potency past 300 skill...by observing min and max values in a data sample, with different dark magic skill values.

This is my build, if I knew 100% how affinity acc/dmg affected drain/aspir I would of done a magian staff for it unless anyone knows, we know mab doesnt affect drain/aspir but what about definite proof weather affinity: dmg does.

Build needs :
Aureole
nashira body (acp is macc and fast cast)
af2 hands
Hirud... earring
3int earring or 3macc earring or 3 dark skill idk, losing inv space though
af3 feet i think, possibly head beats morri now too.

Crimson belt while not under darksday/dark weather, otherwise use the anrin obi. (Macros are your friends.)

Witch sash does not increase Drain's potency (although it does provide Macc).

Crimson belt increases Drain's potency and accuracy, and also helps with interruptions.

Like this one?

Yes, it increases Drain's potency.

Dark affinity: Magic Damage +4 = +25% potency (due to damage multiplier of 1.25 or 25%)

Dark affinity: Magic Acc +1 = +20 Macc

I havent bought cognition and as i expected price has totally plummeted, and no I havent sold it yet its a good piece dont need anyone to tell me otherwise lol, I own sorc belt and witch sash. Sorc for nukes when not using obi, and witch sash for enfeebs/dark magic nothing really beats it yet unless im missing a piece I dont think so.

The Affinity: Magic damage increases the total amount drained/aspired by x%. Resists are calculated after the staff bonus.

There was also some testing on BG a while back. I would've linked it for extra source, but I can't find it right now. I'm not very proficient using BG's search function...

New search function on bg sucks ***. I wanted more pics or direct numbers tho, would be interesting to see what its capable of. I barely notice the difference with hiru earring/excelsis ring so was just interested in what numbers it can do.

Minus 30mp and 7int vs 5int no minus mp and 2macc ... id still go with witch sash personally I know how to get cognition, how much it costs, how much its worth and I know I dont want one lol. Mostly down to the issue of inv space though.

It's the same macc if dINT uncapped, which is likely in a dark set, plus it's better for nukes.

Dont get why youre trying to push me to buy this piece even if you are or trying prove some sort of point, I know 7 int beats 6 int for nukes and witch sash 2 macc for aspir/drain I just lack inv space and Im still not struck on minus 30mp is all and im not carrying all 3 and witch has mnd too for certain enfeebling. Sticking with what I got till something comes out that totally replaces a piece I own entirely or we get more inv space.
