I don't understand. New York has to have the same laws as Arizona? You can be prosecuted in New York for a crime you commited in Arizona? Individual states have no authority on taxation, only the federal state?

I agree a lot of countries do have differing laws and they are comparable to the states of the USA. It's because there is no difference between a country and a state. Just because the USA has a federal model where an elected representative acts as one voice for all the states the he (maybe she) has authority over doesn't detract from the fact that the USA is a collective of countries that have combined together over time to form the USA in exactly the same way the the EU has had a couple of countries that have agreed federal laws between them and extradition treaties between them.

Well really if you want to go and compare and it to be "fair" I'd say only count the western EU countries that weren't under USSR occupation. Theres quite a big difference between western and eastern EU economy wise and I think many of you don't take that into consideration. :P

Every single economy on the eastern side of the "Iron Wall" or whatever it was called at least tripled in the first 5 years after the USSR fell.

If I remember right, Czech Republic got like a 10x increase in that time frame.
