This Idiot's Guide to Sortie

Folks, I've had several people in Leafkin and several in pugs ask how to actually get started with Sortie assuming you have never set foot in it so I figure here is as good a place as any to draw up a post about it and combine all the info we've put out so far. I am going to split this node into four pieces. Hidden objective information, general information, route pathing, and a first-time sortie guide.

No, the bookmarks don't work at this time and I am not sure why. I'm working on it.


Sortie General Information and Maps

!!Treasure!!

Treasure - Sortie is primarily about meeting criteria to hit certain hidden objectives that will reward you with Gallimaufry (Muffins). The treasure chests dropped by hidden objectives come in four variants; Brown Chests, Blue Caskets, Red Coffers, and Aurum Coffers.

Brown - 100 Muffins on both Floors - Brown does not contain any reward items but does give you a temporary item required for something else within the zone.
Blue - 100 Muffins Upstairs / 300 Muffins Downstairs - Blue has a low chance to reward a sapphire, old case, old case +1, or starstone.
Red - 500 Muffins / 1500 Muffins Downstairs - Red is a reward for completing a major objective in the area and has a moderate chance of anything that a Blue chest could give you.
Gold - 1000 Muffins / 3000 (presumed) Muffins Downstairs - Gold is only available once per floor and is the only cross-area objective on that floor. It has the highest chance of rewards in the activity.

Misc Information

  • Hidden objectives do not appear until an enemy is killed. Even if the condition is met partway through the killing process.

  • It is possible to accomplish multiple objectives simultaneously such as Blue Casket #D1 and Blue Casket #D2.

  • Boss rooms have doors that will slam shut once you engage the boss. Players must be within the boss room in order to receive rewards.

  • Party members on different floors will see messages about chests spawning, but will not get rewards if they are opened while on a different floor. Boss rooms are counted as a different floor even if they are the boss of the area you are in.

Hidden Objectives

The meat and potatoes of Sortie is hitting hidden objectives to earn rewards. Objectives can be split into two categories; upstairs and downstairs.
Objectives we know work but are for sure not exact are in blue. Do blue ones in the listed way exactly to hit the proc. We don't know precisely why, so there may be other ways to hit it.
Objectives that are totally unknown or are very strongly speculated but no replicable conditions exist are in red. Help us figure these out and I'll edit them into the guide and give credit where it is due.


Objectives for Upstairs - Area A - D
Zone A - Abject
  1. Key #A - Open any A gate.

  2. Plate #A - Self-cast anything at I-5 teleporter.

  3. Shard #A - Magic killing blow x3.

  4. Metal #A - Do the above again.

  5. Sheet #A - Touch Bitzer #A while naked.

  6. Blue Casket #A1 - Kill x5

  7. Blue Casket #A2 - Rest for one tick anywhere in the leech area.

  8. Red Coffer - Kill Obdella.


Zone A Boss - Ghatjot
  • Stunnable.

  • Absorbs Water/Ice to heal and may retaliate.

  • Without Medal #A it can place an unremovable poison debuff called "Taint" that lasts through death.

  • Drops Shard #E as of Oct'22 update.


Zone B - Biune

  1. Key #B - Open all B gates in order from 01 to 06.

  2. Plate #B - /hurray at Device B

  3. Shard #B - Kill elementals x5. May be a time based requirement.

  4. Metal #B - Do the above again.

  5. Sheet #B - Interact with Bitzer #B without the person spawning the chest having teleported via a Device.

  6. Blue Casket #B1 - Rapidly kill elementals.

  7. Blue Casket #B2 - Open a locked B door.

  8. Red Coffer - Kill Porxie. Must earn Blue Casket #1 first.


Zone B Boss - Lesshon
  • Wind-hands steal buffs and have en-silence. Very dangerous.

  • Try to proc with Ice to push into thunder-hands.

  • Recommended to use Baraera and/or Wind Carol even if it starts in thunder-hands.

  • Drops Shard #F as of Oct'22 update.


Zone C - Cachaemic

  1. Key #C - Open Gate C-1 or C-2 without killing any enemies in the area.

  2. Plate #C - Kill a Cachaemic enemy next to Device C.

  3. Shard #C - Magic burst a Cachaemic enemy without killing x3. [Credit to Ahlen]

  4. Metal #C - Do the above again.

  5. Sheet #C - Materialize Cachaemic foes at Device #C then interact with Bitzer #C.

  6. Blue Casket #C1 - Kill with extreme haste. This is looking like 15 seconds or less from the time of aggro as the requirement. [Credit to Maxom]

  7. Blue Casket #C2 - Full clear area C. [Credit to @pon_chanleopon]

  8. Red Coffer - Kill Bhoot within either 4 mins 48 sec (JPs say 2 game hours) or 5 mins of entering area C.


Zone A Boss - Ghatjot
  • Stunnable.

  • Absorbs Dark/Earth to heal and may retaliate.

  • Without Medal #C it can place an unremovable curse debuff called "Haunt" that lasts through death.

  • Drops Shard #G as of Oct'22 update.


Zone D - Demisang

  1. Key #D - Open gates D-2 and D-1 within 2 minutes of each other.

  2. Plate #D - Drop the Obsidian Fireflys while on the platform next to Device D.

  3. Shard #D - Perform a 4-step SC on 3 Demisang. [Credit to Ahlen]

  4. Metal #D - Do the above again.

  5. Sheet #D - Full clear all Demisang then interact with Bitzer #D.

  6. Blue Casket #D1 - Kill one of each job.

  7. Blue Casket #D2 - Kill 6 Demisang in order. WAR > MNK > WHM > BLM > RDM > THF. [Credit to Shonuts]

  8. Red Coffer - Kill NM and then three other Demisang.


Zone D Boss - Degei
  • Absorbs damage based on the most recent TP move. Blue proc by nuking the opposite element. See Perfidien for weaponskill elemental associations.

  • Drops Shard #H as of Oct'22 update.


Zones A-D Combined Objective

  1. Aurum Coffer - Defeat the NM in each of the four areas (Obdella, Porxie, Bhoot, and Demisang). If you miss a coffer the Aurum will still spawn as long as all four are dead at the same time. If you materialize one you must kill it again to obtain the coffer.


Objectives for the Basement - Area E - H
This area is new as of October 2022. Many objectives are at best randomly obtained by folks, while others have not been reported by anyone at all. This section is very much a work-in-progress.

Each of the four areas in the basement have a colonization reive style encounter triggered by a specific condition. It will shut a door as indicated on the map that can not be crossed until the reive is cleared. There is no reward for spawning the reive, but the red chest for each area is rewarded for clearing the event.


Zone E - Esurient
  1. Metal #E - Kill Esurient Botulus from behind? Exact conditions are not confirmed.

  2. Blue Casket #E1 - Kill all enemies in the same area as the Bitzer.

  3. Blue Casket #E2 - Kill all Esurient Flans.

  4. Red Coffer - Clear the Reive by killing each Naakual once.


Reive Spawn - 5 minute timer after entering area E.

Zone E Boss - Dhartok
  • Takes reduced damage from weaponskills for 10 seconds following a full damage hit.

  • Without Medal #E it can place an unremovable poison debuff called "Taint" that lasts through death.

  • Cesspool will spawn clouds on the battlefield that appear to inflict Magic Defence Down and Drown to anyone standing in them. Including the boss who heals from water damage.

  • Extremely weak to Stone.

  • Drops Fragment #1.


Zone F - Fetid
  1. Metal #F - Speculated - Kill Fetid Ixion. The exact conditions are not confirmed.

  2. Blue Casket #F1 - Kill all Fetid Veela.

  3. Blue Casket #F2 - Interact with the Bitzer while lockstyling 5/5 Empyrean armor for the job you are on.

  4. Red Coffer - Leave the area then return to spawn the reive. Clear the Reive by killing each Naakual once.


Reive Spawn - Have a player leave area F and return.

Zone F Boss - Gartell
  • Takes reduced damage from weaponskills for 10 seconds following a full damage hit.

  • Weak to Ice or Stone depending on current hands.

  • Drops Fragment #2.


Zone G - Gyvewrapped
  1. Metal #G - Kill Gyvewrapped Naraka.

  2. Blue Casket #G1 - Stand next to the Bitzer with it targeted and do not move for 30 seconds.

  3. Blue Casket #G2 - ?.

  4. Red Coffer - Clear the Reive by killing each Naakual in order. Bee > Shark > TRex> Bird > Tree > Lion. [Credit to Ruau's group.]


Reive Spawn - Clear all hounds/dullahans in the reive room.

Zone G Boss - Triboulex
  • Takes reduced damage from weaponskills for 10 seconds following a full damage hit.

  • Spawns a pillar style mechanic that appears to pulse damage of some sort. Exact mechanic unknown.

  • Without Medal #G it can place an unremovable curse debuff called "Haunt" that lasts through death.

  • Frequently does AoE bind.

  • Weak to Fire

  • Drops Fragment #3.


Zone H - Haughty
  1. Metal #H - Speculated - Kill Haughty Tulittia. Exact conditions are not confirmed.

  2. Blue Casket #H1 - Leave H and re-enter the area. It will spawn right at the entry point.

  3. Blue Casket #H2 - Kill all Haughty of a single job?.

  4. Red Coffer - Clear the Reive by killing each Naakual in order. Bztavian > Cehuetzi > Gabbrath > Rockfin > Waktza > Yggdreant.


Reive Spawn - Clear a full party of Haughty fomor in order. PLD > DRK > BST > BRD > RNG > SAM > NIN > DRG.

Zone H Boss - Aita
  • Takes reduced damage from weaponskills for 10 seconds following a full damage hit.

  • Can still be blue proc'd the way Degei can.

  • Drops Fragment #4.


Zones E-H Combo Objective
  1. Aurum Coffer - ??? This has been achieved by people but the exact conditions remain unknown.



Sortie Pathing
Pathing for Upstairs - Area A - D
This is the path we took very consistently getting 22-25k muffins prior to the Oct'22 release of the Basement. It may still have relevance but optimal pathing will require multiple updates as basement/final boss objectives are confirmed in the future. I will rebuild this every few weeks as pathing emerges.

Our route leaves us with 15-20 minutes of free time in the zone as long as we don't mess anything up. We typically end up between 22-25k muffins, 29/29 objectives, and 4/4 bosses.

Areas A and B - Estimated Time 15 mins
Gather and buff at Device.
Mage/Geo/Healer warp to Device A. Blu/Cor/Brd to Device B.
Team A
Self-buff at Device A. Scout for Obdella while here.

Open gates at the same time. Solo member heads southeast through Corse room. Party heads to Gate C-2 and towards Ghouls/Skeletons. Bard heads to C-1 via the east half.

Find and kill the Bhoot quickly. This entry method has everyone covering the area very rapidly with widescan without losing much time.

First-time Sortie Guide - New Player Friendly
Introduction

Two things should be known before you start:
● Firstly, all positions that are referred to are using the composite map below. This map is actually made up of 10 different maps put together. Within the zone, if you do /map you will see only the sub-section you are currently in at the time. It can be a little hard to see but there is a colored border displaying each sub-section with its corresponding map number. In addition, at the bottom of the map, there is a separate version designating what is referred to as "areas" or "zones" throughout this post. We will be focusing on areas A-D only to get started.

● Secondly, the first day or even two you enter we are not attempting to get a large number of objectives, clears, etc unless you have someone who can guide you through what you are doing. If you or your group are starting this event fresh it is not worth it and will cause you more heartache in the long run than just wasting a single day to get access to (almost) everything. I will put a few optional objectives you can hit without too much extra effort in bold purple text. I would recommend skipping these unless you have a moderately strong group as these can be a time sink for newer to moderately geared players and/or for groups that don't have a good job setup.

Pathing in this zone can be a little wonky and the zone is huge. It is highly recommended to have sneak/invisible, silent oils/prism powders, monomi/tonko tools, or some combination on all characters. Additionally, personal movement speed gear and a group-wide movespeed buff are highly recommended. All of the above will save a HUGE amount of time as you navigate this giant maze. Follow the green line on each area map. Additional colors were added to B and D due to significant backtracking. They will be indicated in the associated step. Green stars are objectives that will not move.

First Time Guide

Zone A - Abject
  1. Zoning in for the first time you will start a S on the left side of the map at C-7. Have everyone take a single step forward to confirm they have fully loaded into the zone then buffs can start. Area A only requires sneak.

  2. Sneak up and walk forward into the main room with "Device" in front of you.

  3. Have one person head towards the south side of the room and widescan south for the Abject Obdella. If it is not there keep an eye out for it as you traverse area A. Kill it when found for a red chest containing a moderate amount of gallimaufry (muffins) and a decent chance at item rewards

  4. Kill any 5 enemies in area A for a blue casket with a small amount of muffins and a low chance at potential item rewards.

  5. If you can kill them with spells, do so 3 times for a brown chest containing a shard, and another three after that will get you a metal. We won't use these today but if you are killing 5 anyway and can manage it, may as well.

  6. Head to gate #A-1 at (D-4) on the map. Open the gate and take a few steps past it into the empty room and have one person /heal for at least one tick. This should get you a brown casket containing #Key-A from the door and a blue chest from resting beyond the door.

  7. Take the long way around following the left wall until you reach the Hecteyes room. From here we will cut south to Device #A located at (I-5).

  8. Once you reach the Device #A stand on the slightly raised floor around it and cast any self-buff. Trusts, any magic, ninjutsu, etc. will all work. JAs do not seem to count even if it puts up a buff. This will give you a brown chest with #Plate-A. You can use this in future runs to teleport back here. Do not use it at this time.

  9. Head south of you to Bitzer #A and have one player take off all their gear. Touch the Bitzer while naked to spawn a brown chest with #Sheet-A. We will not use this today. Do not use the bitzer.

  10. Head back up the ramp and proceed to Locked Gate #A at (J-5) in the southern Hecteyes room.



Zone A - Abject Pathing
Zone B - Biune
  1. Zoning into B will put you in the fire elemental room to start. This area agros Magic and specifically Umbrils agro sight. The area with the Dark/Earth elementals does not have an in-game map so a little spacial awareness will be required in that small portion of the zone.

  2. Open all gates in Zone B in order from 1 to 6. The best path if you do not wish to split up your group tends to be heading northeast out Fire Elementals. Go through Umbrils and east to #B1.

  3. Cross the Dark Elemental room to the southwest and open #B2.

  4. Backtrack north through the Umbril and open gate #B3. [Orange]

  5. Return to the Fire Elemental room and open #B4. [Purple]

  6. Proceed through #B4 south to hit gate #B5. [Purple]

  7. Finally, return to the Fire Elemental room once again to hit #B6 and earn a brown coffer containing #Key-B. [Red]

  8. Kill Biune Porxie if you see it. This will NOT give you a chest at this time.

  9. Return to Device #B located between gates #B4 and #B5. Target the device and do a /hurray to earn a brown chest containing #Plate-B. As with #Plate-A, this will allow you to return here later. Do not use the teleporter.

  10. Proceed west to Bitzer #B and touch the Bitzer. You should get #Sheet-B assuming no one has teleported at all in this run.

  11. Proceed south then southeast through the Thunder Elemental room to Locked Gate #B at (K-8). See area C instructions before you open it.



Zone B - Biune Pathing
Zone C - Cachaemic
  1. Skeletons, Ghouls, and Corse agro sight. Ghosts agro sound. All enemies in this area agro HP.

  2. Opening the gate in the next step starts a two game-hour (4min 48sec) clock to kill the Cachaemic Bhoot for a red chest. If your group is decently strong you can go for this with minimal time loss. Be aware it can spawn anywhere in C so it might be fairly far from your entry point.

  3. Open Locked Gate #B at (K-8) and get a free blue chest.

  4. Head to gate #C-1 and open it without killing anything (other than the Bhoot) in zone C to obtain #Key-C.

  5. Kill 3 enemies while doing a non-lethal magic burst to get #Shard-C. Repeat this on another 3 to get #Medal-C. This is most easily done on Ghouls/Skeletons just inside gate #C-1.

  6. Kill 3 enemies with great haste. This usually means utterly smashing them in 10-20 sec. It will likely take more than 3 enemies to hit this objective due to unknown time constraints. This is a blue chest.

  7. Head northwest to Device #C. Pull a Corse with you as you enter the room. Kill the Corse on the raised floor around the device to earn a brown chest containing #Plate-C.

  8. Click the device and select "Materialize Cachaemic Foes" to respawn all killed enemies in zone C. Head north to Bitzer #C and click it after materializing foes to get #Sheet-C.



Zone C - Cachaemic Pathing
Zone D - Demisang
  1. All foes in area D agro both sight and sound. They do not blood agro and are NOT undead despite being fomor-type enemies. This means banish will not weaken them, but drain/aspir will work. This is unusual and unique for this enemy family. Warning: Demisang can not be slept by any known means. The only method of controlling them is petrify.

  2. Enter area D at (H-9) from the room with Device #C.

  3. Kill the party of six Demisang in the room at (H-9). The kill order matters. Kill WAR > MNK > WHM > BLM > RDM > THF. This will reward you with two blue chests on the final kill. One is for killing a full party, the other is for killing them in the order they appear in the jobs list.

  4. Head southwest as a group to gate #D1 at (F-11). Open the gate and head directly to gate #D2 at (G-7). If you make it within two minutes you will be rewarded with a brown chest that gives you #Key-D. [Orange]

  5. Head north to Device #D and drop your "Obsid. Wing" temporary item while standing on the raised platform around the device. This will reward you with a brown chest containing #Plate-D.

  6. Hunt and kill Demisang Deleterious. You will be rewarded with a golden Aurum coffer that has a strong chance at item drops and a hefty 1000 muffins if you have killed all four area NMs (Obdella, Porxie, Bhoot, and Deleterious). Kill any 3 more Demisang after defeating the Deleterious to be rewarded with his red coffer.



Zone D - Demisang Pathing

Early Progression Sortie Guide - New Player Friendly
Introduction
For this section we are making the assumption you have either several real people, or a lot of experiance multi boxing. This will expect players to be able to do more than one thing at once but is not reaching for the stars in terms of difficulty or individual character strength. Aim to follow this route after clearing the first-time guide to get your keys/plates/sheets. Once your group has a stronger composition and is more used to how the event functions we'll move to the final pathing guide above in Sortie Pathing.
