In mother Russia...
News.com.au said:
A 14-YEAR-OLD boy in southern Russia has been charged with killing his father with a sledgehammer after his parents tried to stop him from playing computer games.

The unnamed boy in the coastal town of Tuapse, located by the Black Sea in Russia's southern Krasnodar region, bludgeoned his father to death while he lay sleeping, regional investigators said.

"At around 1am (local time) on April 12, the suspect dealt his sleeping father at least two blows on the head with a sledgehammer," the region's investigative committee said.

"The man died on the spot from a head injury.

A spokeswoman said the parents had taken away the keyboard as a disciplinary measure after he spent a week playing computer games.

After the killing, the boy's frightened mother gave him the keyboard back and the boy played computer games for several more hours until he fell asleep, the spokeswoman said.

At that point, the mother, who was not injured, contacted relatives who in turn called police.

The boy, who has no criminal record, is now being held in pre-trial detention.

At 14, he is old enough to be charged with murder under Russian law.

Was shocked after this, not because he bludgeoned his father to dead, but that he went playing afterwards.

How has videogames changed society? Has it been good or bad? Consider it an addiction?

Videogames have changed society, but not in the way outlined by that.

It has shown the strengths of adaptability into new technologies, and also have created new technologies on its own.

I bet he was playing WoW and they tried to turn off his computer during raid time. It seems like MMORPG players have the highest violence rate when it comes to video games.

This.
Games do not effect whether people kill or not, it's the person playing them. Obviously he had some kind of ADHD or mental illness because there are plenty of kids in the world that get their games taken off them as punishment, you dont see them killing their parents.

no, this is Russia, those kids are more psychotic than Gary Busey off his meds. Videogames are not to blame for a country already chin deep in violent behavior you only see in the movies.

Are you trying to imply that people with ADD/ADHD are inherently murderous?

It's been proven that as the popularity of video games increases the violent crime rate has gone down. Sick minded no conscience killers are just that, video games or not.

If ppl go crazy over videogames, what says they wouldn't have gotten crazy over their other hobby of choice, had it not been videogame.

People are violent by nature. And it's becoming less pc each day to every even considering letting your anger out even a little. Or if not pc then fear of getting a domestic abuse call because you raised your voice a little or punched a wall. So what you expect when we are raised to hold all that in lol

So true Dasva. My brother had the cops called on him by his girlfriend (baby's mama) at the time, for poking her in the chest during an argument. They didn't arrest him but told him to leave the house for the night otherwise they would. It's absolute bs that we can't even be angry anymore.

I know a guy that was angry cause his microwave had just blown up and earlier his window had broken. So he throws the microwave out the window since both broke now anyways. A few minutes later tons of cops thanks to nosy neighbors. Seriously people mind your own damn business and stop being such crybabies
