Noctus Is Gay

In an interview with Kotaku about Final Fantasy Versus XIII, director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that protagonist Noctis is homosexual. "I wanted to make this game seem real world, modern, edgy and I feel having an openly homosexual character will help to give it these qualities", Nomura revealed seemingly quite casually when being questioned about the feel of the game and how it would differ from other titles in the FNC compilation.

Nomura also hinted that the game may involve encounters with extra-terrestrials and a covert plot to allow them to colonise the world, using alien-human hybrids as slaves, saying, "The X-Files were a huge influence on me when I was working on plot and story concepts". "Before we had worked out Noct's name we were calling him 'Fox'", he continued, a clear reference to X-Files protagonist Fox Mulder. "Not that I think David Duchovny or Mulder are gay, you know, I didn't take that from the show, I came up with it by myself."

It remains to be seen just to what extent the hit 90s show has impacted on the game, but Nomura's statements seem to indicate that it will be quite significant.

Based on previous final fantasy games and characters (usually starting around 7), does this surprise anyone?

I mean... really? Especially from FFXII, since there was never really any romance subplot that I noted between Vaan and Penelo, I began to kind of assume things...

So basically they decided to be trendy and play the gay card because they think it'll make the game sell better.

I couldn't care less about him being gay, but that's a terrible reason to write it in. I really doubt the game as a whole benefits from this at all.

The gay part of that wouldn't surprise me at all. However, the whole Alien thing did seem a bit off.

I don't really care either way (never played the game), but they're going to be in for a PR shitstorm if they thought "gay" was good material for an April Fool's joke.

This is the 'source' link to Kotaku. Note that http is repeated twice which is going to make it difficult for you to find anything using it. After that, note the 2010/04/ part of the url. This denotes year/month/, and given that it has /04/, if the article does indeed exist or if this is a fake link, we can infer that it is likely in fact an April Fool's joke.

This is why I took the article seriously. This will not go over well if it's an April Fool's joke.

honestly, it's not that big of a deal if it's true. i think a gay main character would be intresting.

and it's april 1st already in some parts of the world. just because it's still march 31st where you are doesn't mean it's still march 31st everywhere else :p

Why is a gay character any more interesting than a straight character?

It doesn't really matter either way~ I can understand that straight people might prefer straight characters that they can relate to, just like gay people might relate more to gay characters. Personally I've loved pretty much all the characters in the series, even though they're *eyeroll* straight. XD
