Adam & Eve did not die the same day they ate the fruit. The fruit did not kill them. God lied. It would be like me giving you an apple that I claim is poisonous and telling you that it will kill you. Then you eat it anyway. Then 30 years later you get hit by car and die. Then everyone blames your death on the poisonous apple... Why am I even arguing with someone that believes that a snake can talk? :< You are the moron here bro. Bahamut.Jetackuu said: Hades.Excelior said: I would like to know what makes athiests think they have the right to tell people what to believe or not. I'm not saying religious people don't ever do it but only atheiest waste their time trying to remove god from the pledge of alligence. I'm sure you guys think you are accomplishing something but in fact you're just wasting peoples time. Stop worrying about what other people believe and control your own life. I really do hope you arent listening to Bill Maher, he and the rest of the leftest retards worship the government anyways. Hay guys lets all fix our problems with money and goverment control. considering the words weren't there in the first place and the addition of them was illegal, yes they should be removed. I have to agree with Jet here. And yes, I just scatter read a bit of this thread.

Please look at the section I posted it in... If you don't like it, you could just not read it, right...? :) Kudos. u just fkn owned that guy. Thanks... I did enjoy seeing the certainty this guy had that NO ONE *** CARES and how the thread got something close to 30000 views... lol Necro bump and not reading a single post, guilty
Religion bothers me because of the people who kill (or do other less atrocious things) in the name of their god. That's simply it. If you want to believe in sky fairies, that's great. If you think people deserve to die in the name of them, that's not. EDIT: I feel like an idiot after posting that and then reading the gist of the thread. Just believing in nonsense is ultimately just as bad as any said atrocities might be, since you have the chance of bring up offspring who might actually believe the words you say and take them too literally. Children are and have always been the future, and we shouldn't tell them the path of the righteous leads to heaven nor should we tell them Allah will grant them 72 virgins. Even a religiously minded person should (ideally) teach their child the value of critical thinking and then perhaps inform them of their own personal belief system. I'm beside myself. Wow, 2 big necrobumps within 3 posts of each other. This thread is a failed suicide. <__<
Religion = basis of morals
Morals = ground work for laws Laws = the reason you are not dead Embrace, accept it, understand it. If you take the premise that human life is valuable in some way, it's not a long leap to develop some form of secular morality.

If you need a book to tell you that you shouldn't murder, steal or cheat on your wife, I feel really sorry for you. I'm sure this has been said, but it's not that I don't believe in religion. The only thing I don't like about it, is if people try to push their belief's on me.
What Wardens said.
I don't mind people doing whatever with their religion, but don't come and try shoving your ideas down my throat and bringing that ***into politics. Lakshmi.Wardens said: » I'm sure this has been said, but it's not that I don't believe in religion. The only thing I don't like about it, is if people try to push their belief's on me. ^This , and it applies to more than just religion. I find that some people do need religion in their lives... but they could least keep it to themselves. In terms of christianity, I could probably dig up a few verses for any bible thumpers that want to shove religion in someone's face, as how unchristian-like that would be :P. It doesn't help when some people's idea of religion is essentially to convert others, you end up clashing there big time. The simplest answer I can give is that humans, as a species, simply do NOT need another divisive reason to dislike and/or fear one another.
Religion stems from archaic times when famine, pillaging, bloody wars, conquests, and disease infiltrated people's lives on a regular basis. Science had not evolved yet, and thus there were no rational or explainable causes for many things that we can explain nowadays. People needed hope in dire circumstances, and probably used religious practice to isolate themselves from their everyday anxiety and fears. Unfortunately, despite these modest and well-intended origins, people soon identified with religious groups, and the tenets of these groups were contradictory. Thus, religious angst was born; people no longer used religion to shield themselves from anxiety and fear ... now they used it to deflect their anger and hatred onto others ... just because those others had "chosen" another/different image/story of "god" as their shield from the same original anxieties and fears. Hate for the sake of hate. That's the progeny of religion in the modern world. So, when someone asks me why do I bother criticizing religion ... that's why. Because it's a plague on humanity. A lead weight that's been strapped to our legs as we try to evolve. A gangrenous toe that we'd all be better off if we just lopped it off and cut our losses. So you can't have morals without religious belief? Nonsense. If humans were all innately immoral, our species would have snuffed itself out ages ago. Through human experience, we learn that inflicting pain upon others often has dire consequences for your person and thus it is best to not inflict pain upon others. The golden rule predates many of the major religions of our day. Why? Because it is a logical conclusion drawn from the human experience. The notion that a book that hasn't always existed over the course of human history is the only thing keeping you and others from descending into the lowest levels of immoral behavior shows an astounding weakness on your part. Where you are born may have an impact on your overall worldview but morals are embedded in us as we are social animals that work best when working together. Ever observe those godless animals? How have they managed to stick around as long as they have I wonder. Nobody said that having no morals would lead to our extinction; your question about godless animals is moot. We are products of our environment, plain and simple. It's as simple as growing up in a society that thinks pizza is bad like a drug and smears it like ours does drugs - you wouldn't eat pizza but there'd be kids who'd tell you how great it was man, try it. While the video at the top of this thread (why was it revived)? is true, it still doesn't answer the question: why don't you just stfu? Yes, religious institutions push against development of humankind etc. with stupidity - but are any of the FFXIAH forum goers religiously motivated persons in positions of political power in your nation? Why are you protesting to us? Why do I get protested to when I'm simply sitting down at work playing an iPhone game? I am not your law man or the preacher. Channel that energy and try to actually change something for once, it's quite clear that it's another front for people to annoy an ear into listening to their cries. The general population of people my age and those that browse forums like these don't have any vested interest in joining this crusade because they understand protesting on a forum isn't going to change anything. Is choosing not to be 'enlightened' by the facts that yes, religious institution holds back humankind (science, technology, etc) an ignorant choice? Probably. But do you know what else is? Forcing upon yourself a social stigma by talking about this crap over and over again to the people who just happen to have sat down next to you in the lunch room at work. Good luck growing up being the only one who cares about utter bullcrap. tldr
I'm an atheist. If someone has faith it doesn't affect me in the slightest, for all I care people can worship unicorns or popsicles, it's not my business, as it's not their business if I do the same or not, as long as we let each other be. The Church affects me a lot though. The Vatican disgusts me and the reasons are many, and honestly if someone can't see them they're just blind. Phoenix.Vael said: » Nobody said that having no morals would lead to our extinction; your question about godless animals is moot. Numerous theists attempt to make the argument that only through religion (their holy text) can one find a moral compass with which to live one's life. Beef went on to comment "that a book tells everyone what to do" which may be true for some but false on the most basic level. Quote: We are products of our environment, plain and simple. I agree that we are products of our environment however the notion that holy texts are the only thing stopping civilization from descending into moral destruction is false. People here are just important as the individuals in power because many will go on to reproduce and spread their beliefs and thoughts. If you can discuss with individuals the vile things their religion propagates, perhaps they'll be more vocal about madness being perpetuated in the name of their God/s. On the flipside, the forum also helps many individuals break free of the notion that all theists agree with the lunacy being perpetuated at the policy level. The general populace is ultimately decides social policy and last I checked people on FFXIAH make up the general populace. It may be simple enough to say "well, no one here matters" but you just never know when you might change someones viewpoint for the better. Quote: Why are you protesting to us? Dude, it's pretty simple - don't come to the Politics and Religion section of the forums? Blissful ignorance is but just a mouseclick away. Good luck growing up being the only one who cares about utter bullcrap. Stop torturing yourself with clicks here? You seem happy enough within your world where no one cares about global affairs. Apparently, if you aren't addressing congress then it isn't worth speaking about your opinions here on FFXIAH anyway. The thing is though. Even if Atheist you still are influenced by Religion. Not the same way of course but its still a big part of your lives. You will take any chance you get to talk about it, Spread what you believe.and any chance to put it down. Without Religion you could not call yourself an Atheist because it wouldn't exist. So doesn't matter if you like it or not Religion is and always will be apart of your life.
A true non religion person doesn't have anything religious in his life. Doesn't call himself anything linked to religion. Doesn't take place in Religion debates/discussions. doesn't think about religion and what it does or does not do. Just simply does not care. And I have yet to find a person like that. Why was this bumped

Depends on the atheist. There are plenty who simply just reject all belief and go about their normal lives without attempting to voice their opinion. This also is true for many theists. The reason why many atheists become vocal against religious belief is because a large enough core of believers want to force their beliefs upon the entire population of individuals. That and the likelihood of being burned alive, tortured or executed has dropped significantly for an atheist. Kinda important. Indeed you can choose to sit back and internalize your disbelief in god/s but it won't change the fact that individuals are attempting to shape your life based on religious beliefs they hold.
