Religion: If you don't believe in it why does it bother you?

Garuda.Mabrook said: Actually I do believe in Jihad but what Jihad actually is, is dying for a "just" cause and not just plain hatred towards a group. The way I've read about Jihad in the Quran is that it says if you are threatened by someone who will tell you to decide between Islam and die or live and not believe in Allah then and only then can you create Jihad towards that direct person and no one else.
Do you know in Palestine(my nationality but not born there) there are women and children being murdered by radical Jewish soldiers. There are women and children being raped in their homes while the husband is taken to jail from those same Jewish soldiers that took the husband away then killed after they finish. Can you believe this? It is unbearable I know... but you don't hear this stuff on TV in America unfortunately because FOX and CNN are all run by direct Jews in power over those companies.
Now don't get me wrong, I don't hate Jewish people; I just hate Jewish soldiers in the middle-east or for the most least part American soldiers, but ofc not to a point where I must kill them even though some are very promising candidates from what they've done there... They are doing what they believe is true in their hearts. I applaud their efforts in following the leader, but it still doesn't make anything they do right.
I'm sorry, I re-read over some of the stuff in this forum and found this and about shat myself. Mostly because of the last two paragraphs. Just want to remind people that the demographics of Palestine is 75% Muslim. I'm sure in the occupation of Japan, the US did some pretty dirty things to individuals as a result. These faults are of the soldiers, not of the entire race or military. The military didn't outright come out and say: "Guys, go out and rape these women, oh, and kill their husbands in front of them."
As for "but you don't hear this stuff on TV in America unfortunately because FOX and CNN are all run by direct Jews in power over those companies." - I'm willing to guess that your sources are a form of hate speak against Jews to empower the Muslim community, but you really can't argue with conspiracy theory... :/

Every time you post something, you just get lower and lower. seriously, if all your small mind can comprehend is FOX and CNN, then let me break the news to you.. there is something called Youtube!! and see the people dying daily in Palestine. I bet your beloved channels won't show these things.
P.S. copy-paste www.youtube.com in the white rectangle above, if that's too hard for you you can always ask an adult to do it for you.

Titus 1:2: God cannot lie
Revelation 2:2 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of satan who does lie
Revalation 21:8 and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone
Read Genesis Chapter 3
The story where satan tricks Eve into eating the Fruit off of the Tree of Knowledge. He tricks her by telling her, "God lied to you. He said 'If you eat the fruit from this tree, you will surely die' But this is not true Eve. If you eat the fruit, you will not only NOT die, you will gain knowledge!"
So Eve ate the fruit...
She did not die...
She gained knowledge..
She actually lived 900 years???
So I started thinking...
The devil was only guilty of telling the truth, and giving Eve the will to gain knowledge...
Who would argue that telling the truth, and gaining education is a bad thing?
The devil didn't lie...
God lied...
Hebrews 6:18 It is impossible for god to lie
But god lied, even though it is impossible??? God told Eve if she ate the fruit... She would die.. She didn't die!
Revelation 21:8 and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone
Does this mean god is going to hell? Or are we confused..?
Heaven = Fire and brimstone?
IMO Satan:1 God:0

There are so many references to rape, slavery, murder, torture, child abuse, bigotry, sexism, racism, etc etc etc etc etc in the bible that it is completely ridiculous to try and justify any of it...
The religious extremists that you speak of are NOT extreme enough. They are just taking the bible too literally. The religious people that aren't out killing eachother.. Raping children.. Flying planes into buildings.. Are either not following the bible, or not actually reading it.

inb4 Yeah in the Bible, but that stuff isn't in the Qu'ran, which is why you see so few Muslim terrorists.

They were supposed to have eternal life if they didn't eat from that tree. The tree was about being able to know what's right from wrong. That was the evil, according to Genesis. Being able to self-determine oneself.
So they lost that right to live eternally. But it's a bit exaggerated to say that the fruit killed them. Eating the fruit made God decide that they wouldn't get eternal life because God didn't like the fact that they got tricked by the talking snake into wanting to know what's right from wrong.
Try to make sense out of it. Good luck. It's the Bible, after all.

Fundamentalist religious *** : word of the week!
As a critical thinker (or at least someone who tries his best to think critically), you will very often encounter people trying to use this on you. In a debate, you want to be able to see it coming.
Strawman Argument
A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position. To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by substituting a superficially similar yet weaker proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position.
The straw man fallacy occurs in the following pattern of argument:
1. Person A has position X.
2. Person B disregards certain key points of X and instead presents the superficially-similar position Y. Thus, Y is a resulting distorted version of X and can be set up in several ways, including:
1. Presenting a misrepresentation of the opponent's position and then refuting it, thus giving the appearance that the opponent's actual position has been refuted.[1]
2. Quoting an opponent's words out of context – i.e. choosing quotations that misrepresent the opponent's actual intentions (see contextomy and quote mining).[2]
3. Presenting someone who defends a position poorly as the defender, then refuting that person's arguments – thus giving the appearance that every upholder of that position (and thus the position itself) has been defeated.
4. Inventing a fictitious persona with actions or beliefs which are then criticized, implying that the person represents a group of whom the speaker is critical.
5. Oversimplifying an opponent's argument, then attacking this oversimplified version.
3. Person B attacks position Y, concluding that X is false/incorrect/flawed.
This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious, because attacking a distorted version of a position fails to constitute an attack on the actual position.
Strictly speaking, there are three ways to deal with a straw man setup in a debate:
1. Using the terms of the straw man and refuting the theory itself. (Note: A weakness of this retort is that agreeing to use the terminology of the opponent may deflect the debate to a secondary one about the opponent's assumptions).
2. Clarifying the original theory. This may involve explicitly pointing out the straw man. In the example above, such a response might be: I said relax laws on beer but nothing about other stronger intoxicants.
3. Questioning the disputation.

@Magnumatic: Adam and Eve were created and they had eternal life. God gave them a commandment and said if they break it they lose eternal life. They broke the commandment and lost eternal life. It's pretty simple.
Gen 2:17 "for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
If they have life eternal than days are without number and without meaning. Not to mention their lack of knowledge regarding everything. If they have no concept of the passage of time then why would he say "day"? Perhaps because God was referring to a day according to His time. You figure out and tell me how long a day is for God in comparison to the 24 hour Earth day. If Adam lived to be 900 and God said he will die in the day he ate, I will argue that since God cannot lie then His day is equal to 901 human years.
It's interesting to see your support of the original rebel. I hope you are doing it in honesty and not merely for shock value or entertainment. Coming into a thread of people who give the -concept- (highlighted because non-believers following a path of logic should not be afraid to admit that if God did exist than he would be good. If someone wants to argue this, the logic is very sound and I'd be happy to provide it.) of God a positive image and trying to devalue that is a very risky and avant-garde thing to do. I think people refer to things like that as "trolling" or something to that effect. It didn't provide anything of value. The entire world agrees that God is good and truth. That -their- individual higher powers (Shiva, Allah, Krishna, Jehovah, The Goddess, etc.) are good and truth. It's you against everyone, and no matter what anyone else would say regarding this matter you will not submit, because submitting is not something Satan will ever do. Good luck to you, and may your life be filled with hapiness.

Gen 2:17 "for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
This translates to: The day that you eat the fruit, you will die.
Adam & Eve did not die the same day they ate the fruit. The fruit did not kill them. God lied.
It would be like me giving you an apple that I claim is poisonous and telling you that it will kill you. Then you eat it anyway.
Then 30 years later you get hit by car and die. Then everyone blames your death on the poisonous apple...
Why am I even arguing with someone that believes that a snake can talk? :<

Because it affects my life. That's the reason it bothers me. I wish for the demise of several organizations that I feel are destructive to me, my family, my friends and human evolution in general. Almost all countries in the world are ruled by religious people who, more than often, base their decisions on outdated beliefs rather than secular moral standards such as basic human rights, global awareness, tolerance towards difference and a genuine pursuit of peace.
That, my friend, is anything but reassuring.
Rationalists, those who chose, out of simple logic, not to believe in something supernatural, need to state their opinion, proudly and coherently. They need to have a place in society and politics, to be heard and to at least have a word on what the future's going to look like. Something as serious as the occupation of Iraq (close to 100000 have died in it) could probably have been avoided. If it wasn't for the fact that so many US voters based their vote on Bush's claim to have strong religious beliefs, rather than nonviolent ideologies, less people would be dead today.
Beliefs keep us from evolving because of what they are: Suppositions that were turned into artificial facts by irrational, although well intentioned people. The scientific approach goes in contradiction with the religious approach. I will show you that I have a baseball to prove that I own one. Instead, a religious person will dare you to prove that he doesn't have a baseball and your failing to demonstrate that he doesn't own one will make him feel justified.
Doubt, the very basis of knowledge: Doubt is the only way to keep our mind from falling into what I like to describe as "lazy mode". Doubt requires constant re-questioning of our assumptions and becomes harder as we grow old. We have to constantly remind ourselves that what we think we know... might be wrong.
Religions fundamentally discourage questioning; even when they pretend to do, they do it in a hypocritical way that discourages questioning even the relevance of believing. Oppositely, Science has, over the centuries, been re-evaluated from scratch, in the noble attempt to find some provable truths. Small truths, yes, but significant ones. The first scientists obviously believed in God; now, most don't.
