My school had similar requirements, but we could do French, Spanish, or Latin. I guess having the choice helps.^^ Personal motivation only goes so far though; teaching quality is an especially big deal for language learning. Like, I got lucky and had two absolutely wonderful French teachers. Were it not for them, I would most likely not be working on my 5th foreign language.
Of course, I'm a year away from graduating into the real world and I'mma be fuuuucked if I don't figure out what I'm gonna do with my life lol ; ;

Sure you'd never speak it probably but if you got into some sciences medicine or law you'd probably run into it a bit. And it's a rather nice base to help your other romance languages even if it's one that is your first language.
Also it's pretty awesome reading stuff in the original latin.. though sometimes it's rather painful... I'm looking at you Casear as well as Princess Dido and taking pages and pages to kill herself

My nephew is in French immersion so it'd be nice to be able to have a conversation with him in French. Also, I'd like to work for the Canadian Government in Ottawa. Being able to speak French would be a big bonus.

Yes, from what I understand, a lot of languages have roots in Latin.

Also what I like about latin is how it is very firm with it's rules... unlike lol english where everything is a usually thigns are kinda like this most the time.
What I don't like is the lack of using conjugation in place of word order... can be pretty hard to figure out what's what in longer run on sentences sometimes. Especially when people are speaking about themselves in the 3rd person and you don't know it

Before I matriculate into medical school I want to learn Russian, Italian, German, and Korean.
I just basically need to know medical terminology/phrases.
So, if everything goes as planned, I will know English, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Russian, German, and Korean in that order! :'D
Maybe skip Korean. >___>;
Edit: I actually want to learn Italian because it is so similar to Spanish. x3

Nah, they don't. They don't do a whole lot of French yet,as far as I know.
I've been meaning to pirate buy a copy of Rosetta Stone just as a start, but I've been putting it off.

I really enjoy getting work books to learn languages~
I used this one for Japanese:
Then I started conversations with a JP friend in game and she helped me a lot. @@;
I also have some Japanese friends who I talk to so I can get verbal skills. :3
Edit: I cannot stress how important it is to get a work book that contains the actual characters! Work books that are SOLELY in English make me rage.

It really makes me glad to have a forum like this. It'd be a pain to find people to converse with in French otherwise.
