A federal judge has just struck down Section 3 of the Federal Defense of Marriage Act, essentially nullifying most of the law. Section 3 is the part that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman.
The argument is that the US Government under the 10th Amendment does not have the authority to define marriage, overriding states' own recognition of same-sex marriage.
This is an enormous win for the LGBT community.

This isn't entirely true, this ruling is split up into three cases which will then move up to the Court of Appeals. After the Court of Appeals, they will finally reach the Supreme Court. For those looking to get married, this is just the first couple feet. . . But, it's a start, eh?
