Bolded a part of Hohen's post which made me think of something that seems relevant. It actually is entirely possible that your grandma has "seen many like it." You'd be surprised how many "ex-gays" there are. These poor children get shipped off to camps where they are submitted to relentless emotional torture until they break down and learn to convince themselves that they've become straight - just to get their families to let them come home. This serves only to confirm their mistaken belief that homosexuality is a choice and can be actively changed. I know someone this happened to, it's really sad. :/
