Probably none of my business, but just wanna give you some advices :
Before you start doing Salvage, you should get to at least Second Lieutenant rank, and try to finish ToAU because the ring helps ALOT in Salvage.

yes the Ring will help in Assault and Salvage, but every LS can be /happy to have as member.
Suni is a good PPL, friendly and social. He knows his job.
