If you have a trust tank, have the sam do kagero from behind, or if the Sam is tanking have the cor do leaden and the rdm do seraph blade from behind, avoid big sc damage, if he turns to one side or the other, stop and hold until he turns back, elemental dmg is hateless and is easier for the tank to not lose it

I'm not sure on how the SC damage counts towards the 'damage from behind' requirement. Is it possible you're dealing too much SC damage on SAM, resulting in less than 50% non-SC damage from behind?

This is one of those anomalies that has not been fully solved yet. There are theories about holding hate on certain targets. Given that it is switching from one target to another, and no drop, this might add to those theories. Just a hunch.

Try using a tank, and/or moderating the dmg output. Using Elemental WS doesn't generate the enmity spikes to make it turn, this seems to be effective for most people.

Going theory is >50% dmg done from behind while within melee range by one character and SC dmg does not count towards the 50%.

I've personally got metal with it turning and losing hate (SJ to make it turn back). Unsure if it turning and switching targets while above 50% does anything or not.

I'm guessing skillchain damage doesn't have a direction, as far as the game is concerned. I'd imagine that's true for DOTs too.

sam/war build an enimity set for voke and add it to warding circle. have brd give you +enimity songs and cor -enimity songs. also /drk goes a long way on the rdm cor brd geo whm. have the rdm in front with you spamming stun as it will generate more hate than leaden. dont even ws on teh sam just autoattack and spam provoke. have the brd spam sleeps and save sams blade bash for the charm move only. the brd geo drk also spam sleeps and absorb tp's

I feel like if he turns a lot it mucks it up.

In order to get the chest reliably, I first have my guys follow at 7 yalms. Any closer and I've found it doesn't always drop. He has a huge hit box. I Provoke Botchi, Savage Blade him in the face one time and pop Berserk and Aggressor for a little more Enmity+. All my other guys do melee from behind but I only use Leaden Salute on the COR and Flat Blade on BRD to stop any TP moves. Because Leaden Salute is magic based, it generates little enmity and he never turns. And with Geo Malaise he dies pretty quick. Also, as some have pointed to, Skillchain damage does not count "from behind" no matter what so it's best to just avoid them.

If you have the DPS you can just skip him and have WHM/SCH Regen everyone after the boss dies

When we did kill him in the past, SAM didn't engage just built an enmity set and ideally did the initial pull when possible for the extra enmity. Only DD was COR doing Leaden from behind. COR can also solo SC with dagger, aeolean edge as I recall, but don't do anything none magical WSs as you'll pull hate off the sam fast

I had same problem with this in the past.

What I did wrong:
I would bounce the mob between SAM and COR, took turn WS the mob from behind. This doesn't work well b/c I think the game has problem registering where the WS was coming from when the mob is bouncing back and forth between two DD too often.

What I'm doing right:
Get GEO to do indi-acumen + geo malaise. Start with the SAM doing a Fudo and just keep the SAM auto-melee the mob. This should keep hate on the SAM for the rest of the fight. The have the COR spamming LS directly behind until it dies. Should take 4-5 LS. Basically the key is to keep the mob focus on one character one the second char kill it from behind. Also, be careful not to LS right after the SAM first (and only Fudo) b/c skillchain damage doesn't count. I would usually do a AE WS (doesn't SC with Fudo) on COR, then spam LS 4-5 times afterward.

There is a small chance of it charming the SAM and kill Cor, but low risk if you kill it fast.

The problem with SAM meleeing is the TP feed. Significantly increases the odds of charm. Charm is the reason we don't bother with it anymore. It's such a massive RNG time waster.

Sam can also spam Hobaku after a physical WS or two for stuns and more hate.

you can also just have the SAM stun Slimy Proposal (or any and all moves, honestly) with tachi: hobaku or leg sweep.

sounds like you've got a good working strategy for it now, OP - just something to think about that has worked really well for me.
