Curio Vendor Moogles all gone...
Which exploit is being removed this time?
No idea on this one. I checked invalid indexes on them multiple times over the last few years and they handled them gracefully. Possible they broke it when they added Limbus items and it took this long for someone to find? Also possible it's something silly like an item that was able to be resold for a profit (directly or indirectly).
Removed with no notice seems almost certain to be one, though. Probably maint incoming too, since I doubt they can put it back. There was definitely something - on Ragnarok for the past 3 days there was a level 4 WAR constantly going up to the Curio Moogle in Port Sandy, interacting with it, turning around, interacting with the HP crystal, disappearing (very briefly, only for 3 or 4 seconds), re-appearing and repeating over and over.
/sea wasn't picking them up being in any other zone so it could have just looked like they were interacting with the HP and just pos warping but I have no clue what would have been beneficial to do this with. Surely the community would have known if something from the Moogle sold for even 1 gil more than you bought it for, right? If you were the person who found that, would you tell everyone? Could also be a multiple step thing, like turning in ancient beastcoins or AMAN reclaimer or bayld trade. Could be a straight exploit, where some input wasn't validated correctly. My gut says it's something they overlooked adding the limbus items, but obviously that doesn't mean a whole lot. Doubt we'll know for sure unless SE says so(unlikely) or whoever found it feels like bragging. There were definitely a couple items that could be bought for X and be resold for X*1.3 (or so, I think), and the profit was postulated on zoning. Guess someone scripted a way to abuse it and they finally noticed.
They've poofed on all servers.
ON JP forum, they've said removed them due to a bug. Sylph. • Curio Vendor Moogle in Port San d’Oria / Port Bastok / Port Windurst We will provide an update at a later date regarding when this NPC is expected to reappear. On 12/9, 1 day before the update, I did see an issue where I would buy an item from the Curio Moogle, say a Reraiser, and the reply from the curio moogle would be: "You bought a tavnazian taco" ...but my inventory would still have the correct item, a Reraiser.
It was a transient problem then, that I think is most likely due to congestion/server load. This is just an educated guess, but I have suspected for a long time, that the underlying NPC API are global in scope (i.e. 1 'resilient' endpoint for all servers). YOU are supposed to know what is happening at all times, keep it from everyone, and then reveal it to us only AFTER trillions of gil is amassed and we're all ***-out for the next few months. Hugely disappointed in you Thorny. Yeah, knew about the 17 Gil item, noticed that last month, we talk about it in one of my discord, just didn’t think someone would actually do it, sounds really stupid as it would have take so much trading to make anything meaningful, even for RMT, but maybe it’s something totally different, who knows ?!?
Even if it was 1 gil someone would do it all day long
None of the problems I know of with this NPC are new. As such, we should probably not speculate about what they _are_ fixing here because there's a chance that they fix something else and we've revealed some game-breaking bug.

We've been seeing someone named Windiq doing the exact same here in Port Windurst. They'll go to the Curio Moogle, runs to HP crystal, vanishes for a few seconds then immediately reappears. Rinse and repeat.
ah yes i too did the exploits and got all the things.
i hope they don't ban my mule with 67 kraken clubs Asura.Certainly said: » Phoenix.Gavroches said: » Yeah, knew about the 17 Gil item, noticed that last month, we talk about it in one of my discord, just didn’t think someone would actually do it, sounds really stupid as it would have take so much trading to make anything meaningful, even for RMT, but maybe it’s something totally different, who knows ?!? That's the flex. I know, you do not. Ha. Ha. someones been automating running several anon bots in bayld gear to/from the port waters curio moogle to homepoint and then disappearing to other zones for weeks non-stop on bahamut.
maybe devs should pay attention to economy exploits instead of working on trash FES key events Tips for playtime planning without curio moogle:
Start employing crafting for silent oils and prism powders in downtime. Fortunately all mats can be purchased off NPCs Silent oils: 24 alchemy Water Crystal, slime oil x1 (Odoba Bastok Mines 3), beeswax x2 Beeswax: 5 alchemy Fire Crystal, Beehive chip x3 (Odoba), distilled water(Kanil Western Adoulin big bridge) Prism Powder: 41 alchemy Light Crystal, glass fiber x2 (Odoba), artificial lens x1 Artificial lens: 34 alchemy Fire Crystal, Glass fiber x2 Panaceas will soon run out of stock and not keep up with demand. You can blame philosopher stones Paladins for sortie may start going as /sch to offset these issues Hope this helps I honestly hope they don’t bring the moogles back. Alchemy and Cooking took a sad hit when they were implemented.
You hope the Moogles don't return and every item the Moogles offered gone with it, because common items which should be purchasable through normal means hurt the profits of a few crafters? Why you gotta be weird?
Maintenance in moogle areas here in a minute yay crisis averted

They just announced in game an emergency maintenance for the zones in an hour
Max-Potion, Ether, Uleguerand Milk, Persikos au Lait, and Boiled Crab have been removed from the moogles' inventory.
Ether and Boiled Crab, per FFXIclopedia, sold to Guild NPCs for a higher value than it cost to buy them from the moogle. 700 for an ether, NPC for up to 906. 550 for Boiled Crab, NPC up to 675. Presumably the same applies to the other items, but their guild prices aren't listed. I thought guild NPC's have a certain amount of buyback stock available?
The guild price doesn't matter. They max out and won't buy more.
Dafuq they remove them for and just not adjust the prices. And, the guilds are not located in ports. So that was not the issue. (the bots never left port) When you get max Fame in the city associated with a vendor (e.g. Windurst Fame for most NPCs in Windurst, Norg fame for the NPCs in the Tenshodo, etc.) you NPC items for +2% more than the 0-Fame sale price. However, if you sell via packets and fail to specify a vendor that you are selling to, the default fame sale price modifier is +25%. This has been a known issue for like 20 years.
The items they removed were being sold by the Curio Moogle for less than +25% under their sale price, so you could make infinite gil by just buying and reselling them. I assume they may start watching more generally for exploiting this bug, whether you realize you are using it or not. If you use addons that bulk sell stuff (like sparks addons), make sure you talk to an NPC first before selling. Now you'd think, if this has been a ... "game detail" ... that has been known to cause issues for 20+ years, you'd also think its easy to fix.
But. It's christmas they all gone home for a family reunion.
