Looking for Twashtar farming tips (Abyssea)
You guys get stopped by the Miasma? lol
The miasma isn't the block, the timed NM is. It's not really meaningful that I can go through the miasma and then AFK for 5 waiting on the NM to respawn, versus auto-walking into the miasma and AFK for the same 5 minutes. I can still do what I was going to do with the time and get back to be in position when the NM is up so there's no additional downtime.
Whoa whoa, tools? Don't use those here.
The fact they removed Miasma from the actual Attowha zone for QoL but not from Abyssea shows how cunty SE are

I'm confident that TH helps with pop items, but not sure on the weapon items. Kaffy said: » It is lazy game design, don't encourage that nonsense. I mean maybe there is supposed to be some delayed gratification where you see the end but its just out of reach until later on. that's the nicest way I can think of it. but much more likely is wanting to artificially inflate time to completion. SE didn't invent it, tons of games do it. The design here was pretty clearly "let's create a problem, and make it really annoying, so doing the quest that offers a solution is highly appealing." The problem is, 1) Miasmal counteragents can't be used on every miasma, so sometimes you're hitting a "screw you, stand and wait" roadblock anyway and have to go hit your head on a wall until you find the intended detour. 2) Miasmal counteragent has no use outside this one problem created specifically to force you to use it, so nobody's going to waste inventory space on a supply of it normally like they might for prism powder and hatchets (especially at 12 a stack!) 3) You can only produce counteragent between visits to the zone, none of the materials required to synth it - right down to the crystals - exist in the zone unless you bring them in with you. If you're leaving Abyssea - Attohwa and coming back day after day, yeah, maybe you'll start packing the "make the mean smoke go away" potions, but if you're going in like twice a year for marathon sessions when you want to make empyrean weapons, you're going to forget just how annoying the miasmas are, go in, get some light started up, hit your first red light, and think "argh this zone is do frustrating, who ever thought this was a smart idea." nvm found it by google ai search: vana'bout. I think I heard someone mention it before. but bg-wiki didn't. Quetzalcoatl.Xilkk said: » nvm found it by google ai search: vana'bout. I think I heard someone mention it before. but bg-wiki didn't. Unless you looked at the pages that reference it, which are pages about mog kupons, the item's government name, and Vana'bout. But yeah, that's an extra click that could be avoided by labelling it as a prize in Vana'bout, much like mog pell (marble) is for mog bonanza. Taking Glavoid as an example, https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Glavoid Code 1-2 of:
Glavoid Shell G
Glavoid Shell VC
The second item is rated as Very Common 24%. According to the TH table https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Treasure_Hunter, getting TH8 will raise the drop rate from 24% to 70.50%, 3X of TH0. Even without THF or /THF, you can use Escha gear Dark Matter augments to get TH+2 on 2 armor pieces and that will also give TH4 64% drop rate. NM items have a 90% chance to drop two with TH8+ on.
Double drop is 15% or 25% without TH, depending on the NM. My data is from a 15% NM. I've done glavoid twice, back to back, and an enormous amounts of Rema and I've been 100% vanilla since launch. My brain always shoots for a single thing when farming monotonous crap: FLOW.
I go Nin/war, all procs covered, and TH gear. Going thf and missing even a single proc interupts flow and adds a CHANGE (the enemy!!) to what I need to be doing (run to portal, port, return, try again. Ew). Swapping from ninja to thf for each glavoid kill also interrupts flow...time I could be using on the next popset and introducing my brain into a system that clearly doesn't want it. Glavoid (and Rema, Magians, etc) is only painful if you make it so. Brain OFF as much as possible, thats the trick Get into a rhythm, watch HIMYM. By the time Lily leaves Marshall you'll look up and realize you're 70% through it without even really noticing. Tldr; I hate Lily Aldrin Hmm, I gotta say you put up a good point about flow. I've found I can tolerate things when it's a bit more automatic in my head or I've done it before over and over than adjusting every time.
Also a big thank you to everyone for sharing your tips and thoughts, I realise it's personal to a lot of people how they wanna farm too so I've made a list of suggestions from you all to try, and then I'll see what works for me best. I'm considering also just saving Glavoid for last in case I somehow end up lasting till the next Vanabout (so I can get 6 free shells lol). Feel free to keep discussing or throwing suggestions, hopefully it'll continue to help me and others who wanna know the same stuff (given Twashtar is a big piece for a DNC and most serious players will probably want to pick it up.) I finished Itzpapa last night and have an extra note. Assuming THF/WAR solo with all staggers except GK+Katana.
Farming gold boxes on Chigoes is fine if Tunga didn't give you the KI. Hopefully, you can get the Crawler KI while doing this, which would save you having to move over to get it. Otherwise, it's too random to rely on, so I wouldn't stick around if it's the only KI needed for a set. Otherwise, it's too random to rely on, so I wouldn't stick around if it's the only KI needed for a set. discounting unlucky streaks I wonder if this is really true. over the course of 50 scales would you save time refusing to leave chigoes or always making the trip (legit) to eruca when it was the only missing KI. It doesn't take too long to get to the Crawler compared to how long it could take for the KI to appear in a chest. Knowing for sure you will get a KI is better than relying on dumb luck. I tried both methods during my time farming. Sometimes I'd get lucky, and other times I'd waste time trying too hard, so I ended up making trips anyway. The crawler KI seemed the least likely to appear for me, but perhaps I was being unlucky. If you can get it to drop every 2 or 3 pulls, then farming boxes is ideal, but you'd have to know for a fact for it be efficient, which nobody can say for certain. Of course, box farming is far more encouraged if you can multi box and have characters farming full-time. cleaving solo without multibox seems like a terrible idea
My WAR/NIN comes with TH4 in an equipset. I prefer having guaranteed red procs and take the slight hit from TH8 down to TH4 so I can get a good rhythm going and zone out.
Worth mentioning also for QoL stuff if you're still at it OP: I set up red proc macros to equip the 1DMG weapon and also fire off the weaponskill if I have TP. Sort of a one-button deal that makes the whole thing easier. Dodik said: » NM items have a 90% chance to drop two with TH8+ on. Double drop is 15% or 25% without TH, depending on the NM. Also the best tip for farming them would be to go to the quietest server, but then you'll be locked out of any with people left Cerberus.Kylos said: » Knowing for sure you will get a KI is better than relying on dumb luck. This is essentially the argument for why you should be changing jobs. I'd rather take the 60 seconds to job change and get 100% drop rather than spend all the extra time farming boxes or waiting on respawn because you didn't have the proc. I get that some people like the gamble or the RNG, but I'm only trying to focus on things that are a guarantee. Leave the luck for events that you can't affect the outcome. It's also respectful to other players who might be competing for claim that you at least force the KI rather than wasting it. Carbuncle.Crowlina said: » My WAR/NIN comes with TH4 in an equipset. Sort of a one-button deal that makes the whole thing easier. Good point. I find Mercurial Kris the BiS offhand for this content for any one-handed procs. I have a whole pallette just for nin/war procs weapon swaps with an /echo to remind me what the proc is so I don't need to think about it. Thanks all, I'm farming right now and surprised to say Glavoid really isn't too bad once the route is down and I can do it without thinking. While I gamble black matter daily for TH herc feet, I'm stuck at TH 3 on NIN/WAR so I switch to THF for glavoid for 2 drops even though TH3 for very common isn't bad.
The surprising issue and total blocker right now (as some of you have mentioned) is the Tiger King hide in Altepa, firstly it's always farmed and when it's not it barely drops it even with THF so I just decided to sacrifice gil to buy a hide for 300k each, though even that's running low on AH. Just wondering about box farming tips because Altepa only has moba according to wiki that drop amber, so would I just get 48 amber and auto mobs? Someone mentioned there actually IS a mob that doesn't drop amber so interested if anyone can find out what if so. Otherwise wondering if I should wait on the abyssea campaign for maxes pearl to make this easier. Any other tips are very welcome, thanks. I tend to get Sisyphus Frags/Tiger Hides/Jaculus Wings pretty quickly just building up 40ish Amber then cleaving things.
You don't get lights if you kill an unclaimed mob, so it's easy to just cleave on BLU, GEO or whatever AoE nuke job you want. If you wanna just stay NIN to keep procs, you can Call for Help your target and then Aeolian Edge to cleave any mob type you want while also avoiding building Amber beyond your target value. It may also be possible to simply disengage to have your target go unclaimed, then engage and Aeolian Edge before your auto attack, but not 100% sure that works. Bismarck.Sterk said: » It may also be possible to simply disengage to have your target go unclaimed nope, lights (and a lot of other things like atma) go to the person who first claimed the mob and their alliance Thanks again for all the tips everyone, here are my updates and experiences:
Setup
Orthrus
Itzpapotl
