Half Life 2 Counter Strike 2 Quake Battlefield 2 Stalker (unshackled AI) Honorable mention: Flamethrower Donkey and Tank on a Jet in their respective Battlefield. Unreal Tournament was amazing. I've never played Half Life but I think it is somewhat similar?
Quake is a bit more like Doom? Note: I suck at FPS and unreal tournament has no respawn times and fun guns
Perfect Dark N64
Goldeneye Halo Halo 2 Halo 3 Halo Reach Call of Duty Original MW1-3, BO2-4 Titan Fall XDefiant was awesome before they plugged it There are some others from the same franchises that I personally didn’t care for. I didn't care for Titanfall. Also played Destiny but don't care for it.
Immersive sim ftw.
S: System shock 2, Deus Ex. A: System shock 1, Deus Ex human revolution, half life 1/2, Bioshock infinite. B: Golden eye, Clive Barker's Undying C: Quake 1&2 D: Doom 1/2, Doom 64 F: Destiny 2 Also would you consider adding the word "Random" to the topic name next time you post a tier list? The lack of "Random" in this topic name is pushing us away from occupying the whole site with Random topics! First Person FFXI Ranger
F-Tier S: Hell Let Loose

A: Quake3, Halo, Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Goldeneye, System Shock 1&2, Battlefield 1942, Doom 1&2, Deus Ex B: Call of Duty 1-3 (OGs) Too many games to list more. Deus Ex is technically an FPS, and technically is the best kind of being right. What about Metal Gear Solid or Rainbow Six games? I played MGS 1 25++ years ago and liked it but don't remember it well enough.
It is, yes. I never even owned an N64 and Goldeneye is still revered. At release it was well ahead of its time, and had some of the best maps to be seen in any FPS till then.
Hey, let's not forget Half life. That game was creepy as hell but quite the experience. I think the original released in 1998. They've made several modern day remakes with updated graphics on newer consoles too. That's another cult classic from back in the day.
And yea, I remember playing goldeneye with a friend in high school. We'd run around murdering each other after school let out for hour son end. I always loved the golden gun, the rocket launcher, and proximity mines. My favorite zone was always the temple map. It was a blast. I sucked at it compared to my friends; never got quite as many kills as them. But the game was so off the walls it didn't matter. You played it and had fun, and everyone scored a bunch of KOs and deaths because thats just how the game worked. The silmultaneous deaths were the funniest. You'd launch a rocket at them halfway across the room at the end of the hall right as their incoming rocking was about to hit you in the face. The AoE range of explosives was ridiculous too.... so its not like dodging was much of an option. I am not a fan of FPS, I'm going to say Duke Nukem 3D just for the sound bites.

Probably the most fun multiplayer for a non-FPS player like me too. I never played mamy FPS but I do remember the begining of Counter Strike here, that was a major fever. Lan houses made quite money by renting cabinets for players to play a couple of online matches. I even tried q bit, but I was not into constantly playing at lan houses, nor was willing to invest in the learning curve of it. Goldeneye was just pointing things with my N64 controller, grab my weapons and play hide and seek. While CS required first making proper use of keyboard + mouse, aside reflex and some tactics, being also a game not much forgiving for newbies like me. So probably with CS my interested on FPS died completely, and mever again tried a new one Aside age of mythilogy, I never could get in a game that relies on using consistently the mouse

I prefer a mouse for Infinity Engine crpg(like Baldur's gate 1&2, icewind dale) too. Dodik said: » Deus Ex is technically an FPS, and technically is the best kind of being right. The term "FPS" (First person shooter) isn't even design direction, it's camera mode and weapon type. If your game uses first person camera and has a gun then it becomes "FPS", even if your design direction is drastically different from Call of Duty/Golden eye/Quake/Doom kind of game. Immersive sims like Deus Ex/System shock really belongs to completely different genre even though it's still technically "FPS" |
