You're just throwing a fit for nothing, if you had said you absolutely didn't want him to archive it it'd be a different story.

Wherever you feel its a good manner to ask for "permission" is not important to the discussion, fact is Dale didn't owe you to ask.

You haven't been active on the forum for 5+ months, and hides AH history. I don't think it's far fetched to assume you quit and left after you deleted your GitHub presence. You can make the argument people should've PM you but again I don't think unrealistic to assume you're not around.

This is clearly upsetting for you, so I suggest for your own mental, log off and go touch some grass.

On the license, I feel its more of a technicality. Granted I'm not a lawyer but OP had a license inside the source code, just not a separate LICENSE file (this is from their other addon called Cards, I believe JSE replaced it?):

In that case, that license says "Redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without modification, are permitted" and author cannot be whining about people distributing it.

@Meliora you’re just posting an old version to prove your point, Cards was the original addon. Just click on Dale’s link you’ll see the correct copyright where Cards was changed to JSE.
The latest version is v1.11 so Dale doesn’t even have that one, that’s exactly why it would have been so much simpler to just get in touch and upload everything properly to the latest and greatest.

You can keep running in circles about it all and try bullshitting your way out of it Meliora. I don’t care about the facts that you’re carefully choosing to highlight. I’m simply saying that it’s not difficult to send me a PM on this forum or on Discord, I’m in the f’ing Windower discord with all of you ! How hard is it ??

You’re all able to stalk people and find where they live when it come to trolling them, but are brain dead useless when it comes to being polite or reach out to me ?

Phew.. Okay. This is going to be long, and I'm sorry for that, but I want to be thorough with my response.


Reading through this thread, and with little-to-no knowledge about yourself as a person, I had been lead to believe the series of events were;

1) You uploaded some fantastic addons you had made to GitHub, and shared them here on FFXIAH.
2) You were at a later point, banned from FFXI, and upon a GDPR request, it was mentioned one of the reasons you may have been banned was distributing third-party tools. In an abundance of caution, you deleted your addons.
3) You went inactive on these forums after being banned, and until now, had not participated publicly.

I'm sure you can appreciate, and understand, why I would come to the assumption that you had left the FFXI community entirely. I had no point of contact for you, apart from a FFXIAH PM, of which, due to your inactive state within the community from a public point of view, I would've expected no response from.

I apologise if you consider my reuploading of your addon as a slight, or attack on your person, but it is very much the opposite, as I believe you made something incredibly helpful, very useful, and believed that in uploading it for others to use, they could appreciate and make use of your work too. I have never, and continue to not hold any ill will towards you as a person.

Whilst I feel this is not targeted at me directly, I still feel the need to actively request you do not lump me with the individuals who attacked you, or argued with you.

The only interactions I have had with you personally and directly, have been two responses towards the beginning of the thread, and both were exceedingly positive.


Saying all of that, and ignoring the particulars of licenses and all of that nonsense, should you desire I take your addon down, whilst I will be genuinely saddened to do so, I'll absolutely do that. Please try and remember that there is a whole community outside of these forums who do very much appreciate your work, and would very much like to use it.

On a more general point, this is not directed at you Nalfey...

There's been a lot of talk to licenses and legality in this thread, and whilst I agree it's important to protect yourself in that direction, I feel a lot of commentors have lost sight of just.. being a decent person. Windower addons are code for a Lua API for a MMO that is 23 years old, with a very, very niche community. By immediately jumping to "oh this doesn't have this license" (for the record, JSE is using BSD-3 Clause, and has the entire time, as is recommended by the Windower development team) or "oh this is the particulars of this license", you're taking an incredibly cynical, almost immediately hostile point of view, that is really, unneeded. This does not have to be as big of a deal as you are making this out to be. Yes, it's important to follow those best practices. But it should not, and really does not, need to be the first port of call. A lot of these discussions can be sorted out just by talking to each other. End of the day, we're all just people that love an old MMO. Try and remember that, instead of immediately assuming the other side has hostile or malicious intentions.

@Dele nope none of the frustration is targeted to you, you’ve always been supportive. I just wanted to see the latest version up there so that it doesn’t create version confusion.
Also a bunch of people have reached out about the BST-HUD and SMN-HUD in PMs, so more than happy for you to host all three addons.

I posted what I had access to. The same license text is in the archived version. What did you change it to?

As for you discord comment. Yes, I'm a member of some of the servers you reference to but you can probably see if you search my handle, I'm not exactly active, hell I barely use Discord as it is, my friends can attest to this.

I don't write often in the Windower discord aside of helping people in the Linux channel since that's one of my passions and the occasional developer question when I write an addon or working on "Where Is NM" project.

And trolling, are you suggesting I'm trying to doxx you? Maybe that comment wasn't direct towards me but since you went off on me, that's what it felt like. In any case that's a pretty unhinged accusation. Again, you're really getting worked up over a nothing burger, you need to chill. I'm being cordial here, you're screaming at the top of your lungs like a Karen.

I don't know what I said is so evil and toxic in your eyes, I'm not cursing, insulting or name-calling (beside the Karen comment above, cause that's what you present to me).

This is why I suggested you to leave and do what you enjoy, this can't be good for your mental health if you get so furious over such small things like a internet discussion.
