FFXI MTG Cards
3 more FFXI cards announced, and none of them are unique... Just reskins of old cards. Kind of what I expected - FFXI is getting the shaft on this set :/
"Vana'diel Adventurers" as a laboratory maniac doesn't even make any sense... ![]() ![]() they also did something similar with a FFx card, that skinned rhystic studies. The pick an iconic image and slap it on a card.
And it is not new art is is promotional art or existing art from the game which feel cheap and lazy. but at least they picked our fenrir: Fenrir.Niflheim said: » at least they picked our fenrir: I was kinda iffy on green for the color choice for Fenrir, but it kind of works. The moon cycle is a lot more closely tied to nature than it is evil and demons and sacrifice. huh... you know these saga creatures break ozolith
anything with saga counters on it and no chapters must be sacrificed as a state based action. Edit 2: the sac is only if the perm is a saga so ozolith and other creatures will be fine. Edit 2: the sac is only if the perm is a saga so ozolith and other creatures will be fine. ![]() That's not quite how it works. The rule for lore counters only applies to cards with subtype "Saga": 714.4. If the number of lore counters on a Saga permanent is greater than or equal to its final chapter number, and it isn’t the source of a chapter ability that has triggered but not yet left the stack, that Saga’s controller sacrifices it. This state-based action doesn’t use the stack. Edit - nevermind, you already caught it :) Interestingly, you can use the ozolith to move all lore counters onto another saga creature, and in doing so would allow you to fast-track ALL of the chapter abilities potentially at the same time.
If a saga gets multiple lore abilities at once, all chapter abilities are added to the stack. Could be pretty sick for something like Knights of the Round
another ffxi card revealed
It's not 11.. but this card is, fantastic lol
Nothing quite like the good ol 9999
did get a few new FFXI cards tho:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sabotender looks like a good card for draft. Do you have examples of the reskins? Particularly Vanadiel Adventurers? or just anything really.
The small text under the main text is what the card is reskinned of
So theres 4 of em so far I think (from 11, that is) ![]() ![]() ![]()
Felgarr said: » Do you have examples of the reskins? Particularly Vanadiel Adventurers? or just anything really. To elaborate on what Eiryl said, the reskinned cards will have a different printed name as the original card - Vana'diel Adventurers is a reskinned Laboratory Maniac, but for the purposes of deck construction, it counts AS a Laboratory Maniac (as indicated by the small text under the card title). Ignoring cards that have printed exceptions (like Hare Apparent or Relentless Rats), the number of instances of a card that can exist in your deck vary based on the format you're playing. If you're playing commander, you can only have 1 of any given non-basic land card in your deck. In standard or legacy, you can only have 4 of any given non-basic land card in your deck. Etc. With that said, if you were building a commander deck, even though Vana'diel Adventurers and Laboratory Maniac have different printed names, they both count AS Laboratory Maniac so you could not put them both in the same deck since you can only have 1 Laboratory Maniac in your deck. ----------------------------- This part is all opinion: I feel like printing those cards is just lazy design, and an obvious cash grab. Wizards has done a very good job of top-down-set-design in the past (Innistrad and Theros particularly jump out to me as good examples). I love the way that they can take an established mythology or intellectual property and conceptualize it within the rules of mtg. A dragoon's jump ability, for example - As long as it is your turn, the creature has flying. It's flavorful and makes a lot of sense. Vana'diel Adventurers as Laboratory Maniac, or FFX's "Stay With Me" as Rhystic Study - it just doesn't make any sense. It's like slapping an athlete's picture on a Pepsi can when they probably don't even drink soda. Edit: if you're just looking for examples of reskins in the final fantasy set, go to this link and scroll about 3/4 of the way down: http://www.mythicspoiler.com/ I really want one of those uncut sheet/posters of the FF set
Not the cards or boxes of cards, something to actually look at. There's so many sets though, not like the old days. 30 secret layers. pre release set, promo set, booster set, collector set. Cerberus.Kaht said: » ![]() Cerberus.Kaht said: » ![]() For reference: ![]() If anything it looks directly from VIII. Not that I have a problem with it because it is cute and the Chain Mail adventurer is good detail, just thought it was weird at first glance. also for the love all that is holy please let this be a card

Very informative, thank you guys. So much has changed about MTG since I was a kid!

Preying on people's FOMO and not actually improving the game. This is proven by how they refuse to sell their products at a MSRP and instead just become the scalpers themselves. I was going to buy a couple collector boxes of this set because of how much of a MTG and FF fan I am, but not at $44 per pack... MTG has stopped being about the game and is all about how much money they can suck out of their players. MTG has stopped being about the game and is all about how much money they can suck out of their players. Collector's boxes are for people who want all the crazy alt arts and foil treatments, i would hardly call it `manufactured rarity` as it does take a different process to manufacture the pringle variant of cards. If anything collector's boxes crash the secondary market for what used to be a rare hit in a normal booster box eliminating the scarcity of foils and alt art treatments. Drayco said: » This is proven by how they refuse to sell their products at a MSRP and instead just become the scalpers themselves. the FF set has a MSRP Quote: MSRPs for Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY will be set as follows: Play Booster: $6.99 Collector Booster: $37.99 Commander Deck: $69.99 Collector's Edition Commander Deck: $149.99 Bundle: $69.99 Gift Bundle: $89.99 Starter Kit: $19.99 And wizards has an official store on amazon, not that I would suggest using it due to shipping scams that are prevalent with mtg products and amazon's inability to validate a return is not just full of rocks. On the front page you can see the play boosters for the FF set and they are being sold at 30 packs => $6.99 the MSRP => $209.70 so your statement is provably false. while they did not have an msrp for a while(previous sets) they were selling on this amazon store during that time and people used that as the unofficial msrp Thanks for sharing that info, I guess I was misinformed. I have never seen a price listed for any set on a WOTC site. Any time I try to buy cards in the past 2 years after getting back into it, it's like whatever I buy costs whatever the shop wants. I've been to multiple local card shops and they all operate the same. Never a price on anything, which I would expect for opened cards but absolutely not for sealed new packs.
Your information does not change how I feel about wotc still preying on peoples FOMO, if anything seeing a regular booster being $6.99 and a collector booster being $37.99 confirms it more. I bought 2 collector boxes of D&D and they were only like $40 more than play booster boxes. Drayco said: » I guess I was misinformed. I have never seen a price listed for any set on a WOTC site. Many of the ffxi themed cards were generic characters or themes from other games - dragoon's wyvern, fenrir, ghsahl greens, etc. Wish there would have been more legendary creatures exploring the game's lore. Oh well... maybe next time. It has 2 alexanders, just not from 11.

Which one(s) what? The series for each card is listed at the bottom of the card. The 11 related cards have a FFXI label at the bottom of the card next to the card number. For example, the 2 Eiryl posted above are from FFIX and FFVII. There were only a handful of cards for FFXI, and only a few of them referenced characters from the story - Shantotto, AV, and Prishe (on a non-creature card) Cerberus.Kaht said: » There were only a handful of cards for FFXI brake down of the cards in main set (FIN) per title (includes Cids, excludes basic lands): Quote: I: 13 II: 10 III: 12 IV: 15 V: 16 VI: 27 VII: 43 VIII: 21 IX: 26 X: 23 XI: 12 XII: 11 XIII: 16 XIV: 44 XV: 20 XVI: 13 |
