We have people here that are saying covid-19 doesn't even exist. We also have people that are denying how bad it really is. So like if the White House can't prevent or contain the outbreak that it is currently experiencing what makes the executive branch think the rest of us schmucks around the country are going to fare any better when we "re-open"?

Then, if the hurricane changes course, you don't lament having boarded your windows, but you don't also stay locked down forever. Normal people will cautiously go back outside with an umbrella and monitor the situation. In this case, that means masks, staying 6ft apart, and no mass gatherings. But you should cautiously see about getting back to work. Especially if you are in food or medicine production.

The number comes from the rate of infection and what would happen if a population of the United States at 340 Million got infected with a mortality rate of 1% (3.4 Million) if no measures are taken. Edit: Even then at the time of the estimation it was based off of information from China. However at the moment the rate based off the resolved cases is definitely not 1%.
