Wow. Infinite gil. Imagine that back in 2003-2006. Anyone would have felt like a God.

How did you guys feel when you made/discovered this? Did the game feel cheap?

Also, without naming names, can you guys give us a ball park on how many people knew of this / used it? 12? 30? 500?

By all accounts, Eli was not at all close lipped and he accidentally published part of it, so we really can't know how many or to what extent. Obviously, the ones who used it in the last month were the most obvious offenders, but this has been going on for quite a while so things can only get better regardless of how many people used it. Raelious is the only obvious user who hasn't been banned yet that comes to mind.

No reason to nuke it. It's fixed now, nobody can do it any more.

Honestly, I was expecting to find infinite medals, quietly report it, and go on with my life. When I saw the extent to which it went, I realized it had to go ASAP. Tards still gonna cry about how I did medals for my own benefit, but I could've just pulled infinite gil out of the coffer if I wanted gil. I wanted people thinking about medals.

It is patched gamewide, it's a generic packet handler that effects every NPC in the game so it's very unlikely there's any way to still use it. I tested with 2 of the most irrelevant things I could think of before posting anything.

This thread can still evolve.

There's a lot of tweaks, fortunately on a home pc with pro or higher most things can be manipulated.

A few can't but hey. It's a service not a product.

You'll of course never get the exact number of people who used this thing.
If you ask me I think it was probably known for a long time (not since Aurix release though, mayhap) but it's been just a small number of people who made real smart use of the trick itself.
I.e. they didn't abuse it and only put on the market a small, finite number of medals/shards.

Recently, and we're talking about couple of months, word spread. This became more and more and more known and the more people knew about it the more likely it was to finally have people who abused of the trick, finally making it blatantly obvious that something was going on.


I dunno, what should our stance be?
Should we blame these "stupid" people for exploiting it too much and creating big consequences for the economy?
Should we be grateful because, thanks to them, the trick finally reached the spotlight and started a series of actions that will ultimately lead to the trick not working anymore?

If those people want to come out and say they knew, they can. I let people know what I was doing openly because I don't want to feel like a scammer.

Ill split this up:
1 on Odin.
2 on Asura.

Ball park 10, after it escaped those people there is no telling. I do know there was a few LS that got hit though.

My close friends on Lakshmi were aware, but mostly for the fact that Lakshmi has next to nothing to buy/get anyway.

You know, if it was wide spread, and the core RMT got to it, maybe gil will eventually shoot up in price and people will be forced to participate in content instead of buying their way. *cough* Aeonic/Dyna Clears *cough

I wouldn't count on it. They still didn't do anything about all the gil/items, price isn't going back up, nor will anyone stop buying.

Nah. I'm being facetious. I blame their code for allowing this to happen, but I dont know much about coding - like at all - so maybe it wasnt avoidable.

I wouldn't blame them, but to be honest if I wasn't so bored with lack of things to do I would have never been sitting in town wasting my time writing lua in the first place. FFXI is in a stagnant state, but that doesn't make them responsible.

It's their fault such an easy exploit was possible.

I paid someone $40 USD to write my thf and geo lua code in the past. That's how challenged I am at coding.

Not insane at all. It's SE's fault for being so lazy with their code. No sympathy from me for the exploiters, but knowing damn well how they are they should not have let such a thing be possible.

I'm not sympathizing or judging.

I do find it all fascinating though.

Do you not realize - that even though we were bystanders - we were a part of FFXI history here?
