Two of my favorite names in congress are retiring.

Its not that I like the people, but I really enjoy reading weird names like Goodlate and Hensnarling.

But perhaps there are other fun names on the political horizon. I just learned that there is a King county councilman named Dave Upthegrove.

I mean do you know how many years "monkey business" or "monkey it up" has been used in reference to something other than a racial slur?
Idk how many years it was used like that... idk how many years black people have been referred to as apes in a negative way either other than both were around at least as long as I’ve been on this earth... I don’t get your point though... there a plenty of words or phrases in the English language that have changed to incorporate new meanings or uses... i remember my grandpa being pretty angry about homosexuals taking over the word gay in that it used to primarily be used to explain some kind of happiness and now it’s mainly used to say that some one is homosexual or now even just as a general insult...
Monkey Wrench
Barrel of Monkeys
Money Business
Monkey's Uncle
Monkey on Your Back
Monkey Around
Monkey House
Cheeky Monkey
Monkey Suit
Spank the Monkey
Monkey See Monkey Do

Did I leave out any racist monkey idioms?
So you’ll just double down on this? You’re failing to even recognize the word has been in a negative context before... it’s like you’re putting blinders on and trying to ignore the fact it could be used in any context or meaning than what you’ll provide here... most people in here, including myself, agree with you on the fact that what this man said was pretty innocuous but you seem to still think the only way to combat this is to just deny it could ever be used in a way some accuse it to have been used in this situation...
So what? *** your offended pearl clutching. People have an obligation to civility to make some kind of contextual effort in conversation. And if you don’t think that standard should be applied to black people then that makes YOU the racist.
Is this the I’m angry so appearantly that gives way to the I’m rubber your glue defense? I think people can say whatever they want but in the history of mankind it has never protected them from what other people may think or interpret the words coming out to mean... I mean you just called me a racist for the things I’ve said and regardless of the truth of that accusation you’ve made it... your interpretation of these events lead you to that conclusion... is it so impossible to understand that’s where others might come from in other situations then? I mean most of us here have concluded that it the statement didn’t seem to include any racist intent behind it... yet you still seem to rather lash out and insult me rather than to admit for even a second that the word used has ever even had been used with a negative connotation... you do yourself and your argument a disservice when you act like that...
Wow this is actually poetic. I didn’t call you racist. I presented a you a logical conclusion to an interpretation you may or may not have. This is specifically denoted by the word “if”. You incorrectly interpreted what I wrote JUST LIKE THE MEDIA DID WITH “MONKEY IT UP”.

Because you made an error by not being open to a different interpretation does not mean I screwed up by not anticipating the possibility of your error.
How exactly was I not open to a different interpretation? I agreed with you that his statement seemed innocuous... the disagreement we had on this was that monkey could actually be used in a racist context... not that it was used as such in this situation... so yeah....
You keep defending this *** notion that the guy should have known not to say something that could offend anyone. That gives legitimacy to the offended.

They don’t deserve legitimacy, their offense is irrational.
Well I mean considering you’ve complained numerous times about the pc culture bs that’s taken grip in our fine nation the I mean yeah I think he’s pretty dumb not to consider it... it’s not like people weren’t bitching about rosanne calling someone an ape recently and how they thought that was racist lol... legitmate or not it’s pretty obvious... I think a lot of the things you say are irrational but it doesn’t really stop you from thinking or saying them does it?

Yeah, maybe every politician should write a thesis on the meanings of every word as they've been used throughout history before being allowed to speak each one. Clearly this whole "speaking words in normal conversation with a split second of thought, like an actual human being" is too much for some people.

What's sad is that there are people who actually had time to analyze his words for hours/days, who actually had the benefit of thinking things through before giving a written or verbal response, and who ended up saying things that were far more stupid than what DeSantis came up with in a millisecond.

Another fine example of idiots who don't deserve to be validated.

Roseanne didn't compare anyone to an ape. She compared them to a fictional character and the makeup job inherent to that character. Spoiler alert, Valerie Jarret really dose look like that character and that character wasn't even played by a black person.

Not every politician, clearly it's just for those who aren't part of the resistance.

Remember before Roseanne compared Valerie Jarrett to an ape, she did the same thing to Susan Rice. She has a long history of racism, and she deserved to be fired.

I have never thought of monkey as a racial slur and "monkey rigged" means poorly rigged, as if the subject was improvised by a literal monkey.

That's fine, but there are plenty of people that take being compared to an ape as a racial slur and that is not gonna change nor should it.

The whole problem with the dismissive rhetoric is that it’s white people talking over black people like black people don’t have a voice.

Guess what? Most black people found it racist regardless of how innocuous the intent, due to historical precedent. Then to condescendingly dismiss their interpretation without giving their objection real consideration...guess what that comes off as racist.

Now nobody is saying you don’t a have right to be racist but own it and own the fact that people don’t have to respect you in return since the disrespect is obviously reciprocated.

Given how a huge proportion of the SJW voices out there are white people putting words into minorities' mouths and getting offended in their behalf, it sounds to me like the condescension goes far beyond "dismissive rhetoric".

Reminder, if the policy is you can compare every kind of person except black people to monkeys, then that racially discriminates against black people and is an actual example of racism.

The left considers any discrepancy that may prevent 100% equity of outcome against black or latino people an example of racism.

People are inherently different, and groups of people are inherently different from each other. The inability to creat a social order that eliminates these differences is what the left points to as proof of racism.

getting offended on a black person's behalf because you think black people need your help is part of the left's racism. They think a whole race of people is inferior to the point where they cannot speak for themselves.

Then they view them as weak, which is also pretty offensive. If that wasn't true, then they wouldn't feel the need to come to their rescue every single freaking time over the slightest little offenses.

More ***, black people have no problem standing up for themselves against racists like Roseanne. They are always out in front, Wanda Sykes resigned immediately after Roseanne renewed her attacks on Valerie Jarrett. She didn't need any help.

This is something that nausi always does, tries to flip his closet racism back onto other people by making ***up. Its never going to work.

No.

All those other monkey expressions are commonly used. I am not claiming they are racist or not racist.

The right is claiming that "monkey this up" is a commonly used expression and therefore can't be racist. It isn't commonly used. It sounds like a racist dog whistle in context.

Full context: "The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases and bankrupting the state."

how is that any kind of "dog whistle"? If to "monkey" something means to haphazardly screw around with something, how is there any kind of racism in what he said?

Well, I'll at least give you credit for using an example one of the few black celebrities who dishes it out regularly but can't take it, and who actually exhibits the victim mentality to a T. Your argument still sucks, but you're doing your best to hang in there. Way to go, slugger.
