Just zerging down the boss certainly seems like the way to go. Only gets 2 waves off before dying with RUN, BLU, BRD, COR all DDing, plus GEO and WHM. Clearing in 3:45 with me triple boxing the RUN, BRD and COR, so should be closer to 3 mins with all real people.

So something to note you can kill the cactuar it's also pretty squishy but it's running around does hamper things a tad.

Interestingly enough despite the fact it runs around from the beginning and never directly attacks you attacking it will still aggro the MB regardless of distance.

Honestly didn't really check lol. Was too busy dealing with the fact the adds kept coming after the masters instead of the pets that were tanking... especially surprising when it happen when the MB wasn't being dealt dmg

Something else to note when I stood away from the MB the cactuar didn't use needles either though would still run up on me to fake me out

Haven't tried it, but I'm seeing some JPs farming Antica on BLMs and was curious if anyone's tried that method and how it went. I don't feel like being the guinea pig with how simple melee zerg strat is.

We killed cactuar first with Fire nukes (Free)
Then free nuked adds down (aero)
Then Mburst MB down. (Aero)
Took about 5 mins but less headache and easy peezy.
SCH 2 houred and we just will reset it.

But I thought GEO was the real OP job, nerf them, not SMN, right?

Some more observations, done on VD.

  • Everyone needs to bunch up, firstly to soak the 10000 Needles and secondly to make sure the Consul's adds do not wander far.

  • Leg Sweep's Stun still lands for full effect even on VD. It stops the Consul from moving around constantly if anything.

  • Tomahawk from a WAR will let you do more damage when the Cactuar is not in range.

  • Two uses of Fell Cleave will kill most of the adds, the Valiants and maybe the Stalwarts will need a third use to drop them. Sonic Thrust will one-shot Hunters and Magisters but is difficult to aim.

  • I suspect Sodstorm is actually magic damage and is Darkness elemental. Lux Valiance takes a lot off of it's damage and so does Sacrosanctity. Without those it hits pretty hard. Will try testing it with Lux Liement to confirm.

  • The key to keeping hate on all the Consul's adds is to time your JA's in tandem with the Consul summoning them, as they seem to appear with no enmity on anyone and simply run around hitting people until the tank gets their attention. Foil will usually be enough but keep Pflug and/or Liement ready. Souleater from /DRK sub also generates a good chunk of VE and will bring back adds which may have gone wandering no matter how far away they may be.

  • If your tank, preferably a RUN because of their many snap-enmity JA's, can keep hate on all of the adds a WAR can Fell Cleave them to death. Non-Epeolatry RUN need to watch for x3 Eagle Eye Shot at once (Fell Cleave will trigger all three to use it at the same time).

  • Your healer needs to watch out for Sleepga II spam from the BLM adds and be ready to counter it. Sublimation charging will wake you up quickly but you need to watch for Sublimation being cancelled/charged too soon by your HP getting low. Maintain Stoneskin to prevent this but force-wipe Stoneskin if Sleepga lands.

Sodstorm can miss and be absorbed by utsu, it must be physical. The high damage spikes could be critical hits.

Killing the Cactuar first prevents the Consul from summoning more adds but it's not very important if you can kill the boss quickly.

Thanks for the video, seems like the key to win are a good tank/healer combo and dd that focus to zerg MB when cactus comes into range. I can see PLD/BLU work pretty well as a tank too as you have plenty of AoE hate options and can just pop sentinel when doing the RNGs and forget about the triple EES danger

Would Scherzo or Earthern Armor be a good way to reliably survive the Triple EES?

Having a GEO or WHM silence the Magisters can eliminate a lot of potential headaches as well.

Problem with that is that scherzo/EA work by single hit so if a single EES does <75% of your total HP (or whatever the thresold is), they wouldn't work. For instance 3 1k EES would kill the tank and scherzo/EA would do nothing.

The zerg way is definitely faster, however after doing the mage way a few times, I prefer the mage strat with shout groups. It is far safer, as long as your blms/schs/geo/smns whatever have good nuking sets and kill the cactuar quickly, the boss will only summon 1 set of adds max, sometimes even no adds spawn. That cactuar melts to fire. With no cactuar and no adds, all mages are safe to stay at range, which ignores sodstorm BS, ignores sleepga (these adds shouldn't even spawn), aoe petrify etc etc. Just make sure your whm or healing sch sits on stona, they need to remove petrify fast so tank can instantly grab hate back with a flash since sand trap is a full hate reset.

Wilt and a hybrid set covers that and most other physical problems.

2BLM, GEO, SCH, PLD + trust WHM: 5min clear on VD.

Very stress free way of doing it. If we had a SCH 6th, would probably rival melee clear time.
