Random Politics & Arguments Over Nothing #16
I will and always have agreed with the mandatory military service. As a vet myself, the military teaches a lot of good skills, respect, drive etc. We wouldn't have so many snowflakes if we taught people to be productive and not expect everything handed to you.
I disagree completely.
Why? Not every job in the military is combat arms. It still teaches structure though.
You can learn things without being coerced into an unpleasant situation, which is what the military is like for many who are forced to take service against their will.
Universal service is a feature of many societies but the one I remember best was the cheerful neofacist state in Starship Troopers.
It had one feature I quite approved of. Everyone served. You have bone spurs on your heels? Fine, we'll get you a desk job? Anti war? Lots of civilian positions within the government. You have the IQ of a german shepherd dog? We can spend a year trying to train you to buss tables. Everyone, without exception, served. The military doesn't teach anything in the first 4 years before you riff out that can't be learned in college/the private sector. Going to college right after high school is a much better plan than going into the military as an E1 straight out of high school.
Please don't forget than a civilian, completely combat-unrelated program is a significant, even predominant, part of my little scenario. Military service would be optional as ever.
Kinda remembering why I don't like bringing up this topic. Too many people treat public service as punishment.

Or you know the majority of people in modern society grow up without a caste system and find the Military and it's hierarchical leanings not for them... to put it mildly. Offline

Sure my father was a hard driver when I was younger, like making me leave home as soon as I was legally able to and making me fend for myself when I myself decided not to join the service. I learned a lot from him, even in passing, as our family was posted around the world as military families sometimes are. I honestly regret not joining the Royal Air Force when I had the chance, but the values my father instilled in me like a strong work ethic and drive to excel stuck with me nevertheless. I'm doing my master's degree now while holding two jobs to fund myself. The sheer number of snowflake students I see who think working 'menial' jobs is beneath them, only to then flip out and moan when they cannot find 'meaningful' work, is absolutely staggering. Reality is going to knock snowflakes like this cold. Become a valued and productive member of society by doing this one thing!

The notion that the USA is above nuking is silly. When other countries would love to nuke us.
Hey, if no nukes are good nukes more nukes have to be better.

The comments by everyone wetting their pants in that link in twitter is just *muah*. I like how "expand nuclear capability" means "more nukes" to so many people. It takes a giant lack of creativity to think that capability automatically means volume.
It's almost like Twitter is not the most effective form of communication for complex, nuanced topics.

All they can do is react to every tweet and call for impeachment, war crimes and/or treason. Bahamut.Ravael said: » I like how "expand nuclear capability" means "more nukes" to so many people. The nuclear arsenal concerns a lot of people, as it should. Inferring that he means no actual expansion in the number of nuclear arms is just as much an assumption as inferring an increase. If Trump wants to insult the NYT or Broadway plays he can use Twitter however he wants. but serious topics require a proper outlet. Trump doesn't know anything about nuclear weapons, that's why he can only talk about them in 140 characters or less. He is also talking about the F-35, asking Boeing to price out a "comparable" F-18 in 140 characters. I'm sure Boeing will get right on that impossible fantasy.

Well being that he demonstrated he did not know what a nuclear triad is in primaries; it's a pretty fair assumption on people's part. Offline

Btw the Berlin attacker was killed tonight in Italy.

Due to the attackers' religion in both cases, the media in America has lost interest Seha. Sorry.
