I made sure the action is set to "do nothing" for closing the lid in the power settings, but the game still crashes when I close the lid while on windower. I also tried "borderless window" and "window" modes on windower. Any idea what may be causing this issue?

Did you set the settings for while it's plugged in, and when it's not?

Do you have some weird gpu throttle setting when closing the top. Might be a setting in Nvidia or amd.

There is something with POL that doesn't like switching monitors / [HDMI] display cords / adjusting resolution. Same thing as locking the screen in Windows. Can't do it without it crashing the game.

Whatever you're doing is causing you to lose fullscreen mode (regardless of windowed/borderless setting, or windower at all) nothing you can do short of looking for more settinga or stop closing your lid.

Well except run the game in vmware workstation with fixed display settings, then as long as your connection is active you will be active.

edit: you sure your wifi isn't going to sleep, or is it the display crash?

It is neither display nor connection. It crashes POL with a "PlayOnline has stopped working" error popup.

there might be a *** company made power settings program that's hoisting control or doing the double settings *** on ya

tell us more about this computer's model number and video card

It is a kinda crappy Packard Bell laptop with GT630M. It had some power management app but it was gone when I updated to Windows 10 and that app doesn't work on Windows 10 anyway.

Probably found your issue, Windows 10 does a lot of stupid crap.

That's a generic crash, generally from losing fullscreen directx mode, like Josi-boy said.

The computer very well may turn off the monitor when closed (or disconnect it) regardless of settings.

When I installed FFXI on this laptop I turned those power settings off as well and they did the trick for me every time. Now, the connecting an HDMI, or anything that involves a flicker will get you every time far as I know. Good luck!

Oh yeah, I'm NOT on Windows 10!! I rejected that upgrade soon as it hit my desktop.

Yeah, it turns off the monitor when I close the lid :/ I couldn't find a solution for that. Power settings don't do anything like you said.

I had this same problem. You need to shut off volume manager, which in Windows 10 is in an odd spot as opposed to 7.I forget how to do it but it's volume manager that needs to be shut off.
