Domaru wasn't even a bad piece of gear. The people misusing it were why it was considered bad.

the issue was those people were EVERYWHERE. if I had a dollar for every idiot SAM I healed at meripo fulltiming the thing, I would have been able to fund my monthly subscription ever since.

considering the best thing to tp in on sam at the time was hauby which gave -agi -evasion, they did you a favor by getting hit less!

by riding Hasso instead of Seigan/Third Eye, or using neither and coming /NIN? no, these were morons through and through, and they were a dime a dozen. it was bad enough I had to get my merits for Monk on Red Mage because it was SAM onry for merits. we're talking people who blew all their gil on a Hagun, had crap in every other slot, fed the birds more sushi than an all you can eat buffet, and thought they were hot stuff because they knew how to select Tachi:Gekko from the menu. they were carried through leveling to 75, and they were carried on the backs of others for merits.

people like to pretend that it didn't happen back before Abyssea leaching became a thing (and I am sure plenty blocked the existence of Astral Burn parties from their memories to coincide with that) and that everyone knew how to play their jobs, but when you leveled Red Mage, and would receive tells moments after logging in to join a party, you saw plenty.

Why wouldn't you use Hasso full time?

It's also one of those things where the idea of gearing wasn't as simple back then. Lots of game mechanics were unknown and we of course didn't have spreadsheets of any kind. A great example would be Haubergeon +1, if you posted that you were WSing in a Osode on KI you would get torn to pieces, this went on for years. Suddenly some tests were done which showed YGK had Attack bonuses and everyone previously saying Osode is trash and you should always YGK in a Haub+1 changed their thinking.

For a large portion of 75 even the best players thought Haub +1 was the optimal body for Sam TP, accuracy itself was actually highly overvalued for certain events. It wasn't until very late into 75 that people started realizing things like Blitz Ring, Askar Korazin, and even Domaru could actually be viable TP options. For Domaru it had already been too late, being the "joke" sam body for 5 years made it hard to legitimize.

because taking a Pecking Flurry to the face could be quite deadly if it happened at the wrong time, Red Mage was rocking a whopping 4 /tick Refresh if they had their Relic hat (which was hotly contested in Dynamis linkshells), and along with doing a full haste rotation, the RDM was keeping everyone alive. if you wanted to get your 25k per hour XP, you needed at least a LITTLE more defensive strategy than mindlessly mashing WS. /NIN was pretty much a requirement for any endgame content if you were melee (as well as /THF for certain boss strats). it was a VERY different time.

we also had to rely a lot on parses (/shudder) to try and work things out.

When I started playing, a few months before WotG, Domaru was a perfectly fine TP piece for great katana. You were using sushi on sam regardless, either to hit something with polearm or to hit harder things with great katana.

DNC was also the ideal healer for merit parties on birds, RDM wasn't main healing, just hasting and Dia.

Is 20 dmg for the hit like 30 dmg if a RNG shoots?

No DRG for party, camp spot site with 30 dmg, but is it for 20 like 30 dmg when you no hit be it for dd, for 30 dmg instead? or half is 10 for 20 dmg?

u take 20 dmg no shooting for 30 dmg if drg, so divide 2 u dont shoot, u get 10 but for DRG it no 30, so 20 would be for DRG if u werent a RNG?
